This twisted rod is stamped“ CBFR” It is copper wrapped and has 2 places where the rod has started to corrode through. SEE PICTURES. The point has a chrome coating that has mostly weathered off over the years. Nothing on the point is magnetic making it all brass or bronze. One porcelain insulator is cracked and the other has a chip. SEE PICTURE. The feet are bent to fit the pitch of the barn they came off of. They will need bent to your roof pitch. The iron stand is pitted from years on the roof. They may need straightened to suit you display desires. There is a beautiful color green tarnish on the rod and point and where the chrome has peeled off there is a little bronze ... morecolor brass showing. Antique Copper/ Iron Trotting HORSE Weather Vane This weather vane is old. I just can't say for sure how old. It stands 20" tall and the base measures about 9" wide. The arrow measures 10" long. This weather vane seems to me to be copper and/or copper plate over iron. It is fairly heavy and as you can see in the photos, there is a distinct copper tarnish all over the piece which gives it a beautiful patina. There is also some surface rust present which might mean it has iron in the metal also. This item is in good condition, please see photos for more detail. The ball is split in the middle so it is in two pieces- but it may be made that way. I will take this item apart when I ship. US buyers to pay $16.00 for USPS shipping from 65559. Antique large folk art/ Machine Age/ Zeppelin Weathervane/Great Art Deco look!
This is a wonderful and large. Fully-formed Zeppelin Weathervane made around 1940 by a creative individual in Bath, Maine. In addition to being a nice piece of folk art, it has a classic Machine Age Art Deco look to it. The vane is made of metal attached with screws, the entire piece covered in a weathered silver paint. There is something heavy inside the bow of the airship, probably lead, that I am sure was put in to give it proper balance while on a rooftop. Size is impressive. It is almost 27" long and measures 18" in girth at midship. With the hand-made stand that was with it when I bought it, it stands almost 19" tall, plus another 6" on the post that extends above the Zeppelin that I assume was the area where the directionals were mounted. It weighs 20 pounds. Condition is as found and as shown. Please look at all ... moreof my photos carefully for the best idea of quality and condition. There is some scattered paint loss and one propellor is missing. The bottom has a small area of rust. Overall, I would say this is in very good condition showing excellent age and patina. This certainly is a rare form and harkens back to the Hindenburg as well as other Zeppelins that were around in the 1930s. I think it's a great piece of art and a very rare form in terms of old weathervanes. It's sleek, lively and just makes you smile.
