With a visible hamon(hard-edge) showing along its entire length. The result of traditional tempered steel swordsmithing. The unsigned nakago(tang) has a single mekugi-ana. The tsuka(hilt) has a fine quality same(ray-skin) grip. A brass fuchi. A cast iron openwork tsuba and a copper habaki. The saya(scabbard) is one of the very best I have come across. No menuki’s, many were like this and it looks good. Although the pommel has a small hole in it. It matches the fuchi and is old. The handle pieces are old original parts. This is a Japanese sword wakizashi in mountings. The blade is signed"Munechika saku 宗近作" Shinogizukuri shape. Muromachi period ca.1550 era made blade. The blade is in old full polish, no rust, no scratch and in mint condition. The temper line is chu-suguba temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep turn back temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada, no forging flaws at all. The scabbard is urushi lacquered scabbard. No lacquer loss, no dent, no crack and in good condition. The handle is tight fit with copper fuchi/ kashira and bird motif menuki. Tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut. No loose. The tsuba is marugata shape iron tsuba with nice patina. It came with old man motif copper handle kozuka in good condition. Judging its signature. So it can be called Sue Koto, old sword. The blade is signed, Bishu Mihara ju Kai Masamori" Eiroku ni nen, Hachigatsu nichi. The sign is clear and crisp. Judged by it, this blade is estimated to be made by a sword smith Masamori, who lived in Kaigahara, Mihara in Bishu province. The group of sword smiths who lived there was called Kai Mihara and became prestigious brand guaranteeing high quality. Eiroku ni nen, Hachigatsu nichi means AD 1559 August. The blade is Hira-zukuri with fine Shirasaya koshirae. I feel gorgeous from it as its blade ... moreis enough wide. In other words, plenty Mihaba. The temper line is straight suguha near Notareba.The forging grain is tight koitame-hada. Mokume-mixed. And I think you can see Kinsen pattern on the blade and Bo-utsuri. VINTAGE JAPANESE WAKIZASHI SAMURAI SHORT SWORD ANTIQUE WWII
For your consideration is a vintage Japanese Wakizashi samurai short sword. This is a beautiful sword and displays well. The sword is not signed. I am not sure of the exact age of the sword. I have included many pictures below so be sure to scroll down to view them all. The overall length of the sword from the Kashiri to the end of the Saya is 22 inches. The length of the steel handle and blade is 17 3/8 inches. The length of the edged blade is 13 1/4 inches. The Sageo has come untied slightly in one spot as evidenced in the photographs. It appears the fabric broke. This could be rewrapped and easily repaired. The blade does show some tiny knicks on the edge in places. The end of the Saya has a small chip. This sword is fantastic as it is now. But I think it could be a great restoration piece also. Very comfortable length, easy to hold, and feels a bit longer than it is. This really feels like a reliable backup sword to a katana. The sword looks great. Bingo province is within the Kinai road which included the infamous Bizen province which was at the heart of Samurai sword making. This sword would have been longer than it is today. It may have been severely damaged in battle at a previous time.The meaningful menuki under the silk tsuka is what really distinguishes this sword. One one side there is a monkey with his hand extending downward. The other side of the sword is of a moon. For auction is this authentic massive Japanese hira zukuri Ko Wakizashi or O Tanto from the Shinshinto period. The 1780-1850's blade is in minty japanese polish. No damage or flaw to mention at all, nice clean blade. It is in deed an unusualy robust. Wide and powerful blade, a machete of japanese style. I only handled a couple of these as they are not the typical one. A real slayer. It is said that it could be made by Kiyomara or his followers as it is his distinctive style. Antique Shinto 17th Century Japanese Sword Samurai Wakizashi Katana in Koshirae
Authentic antique Shinto period Japanese Wakizashi sword in koshirae. The 17th century blade has a nicely curved slender shape. Sharp good old japanese polish with very minor light residue, one very tiny and thin battle nick and one area of lose layer on the surface(as shown on picture) apart from it a good strong long wakizashi blade with healthy slightly bumpy hamon temperline and visible good grain patter. The tip is healthy and not reshaped, nice sharp looking with nice strong high boshi. The tang is unaltered. Unshortened in original state with nice patination, it is signed: 神田住兼常 Kanda Ju Kanetsune He worked in the second half of the 17th century in Musashi province. Soshu School Wakizashi signed Kunishige 400 Year old Blade & Horse Menuki WoW!
Note: Please see notes at hte end of the listing. Offering a nice soshu period Wakazashi. It measures overall 22 inches with a 13 inch cutting edge. The tang is signed Kunishige with very clear file marks. This item was brought back from the South Pacific Theater by an American G.I. It has a sharkskin or ray wrapped tuska with brown/gold ito and matching horse menuki and a bronze tsuba. A nicely detailed fuchi and Kashira that looks finely crafted. The habaki is copper with nice file work. I sent this blade to a professional polisher for a preservation polish and sharpening. It has a beautiful original temper line. As shown in pics. About this Wakizashi(The soshu blade is late shinto or shinshinto period. Probably shin-shinto because it looks like home-made steel during the time of re-capturing the old styles of workmanship. I am not an expert in any since of the word. Most of my knowledge comes from reference books. I have been told this is the best hand forged and oldest Wakizashi that I have in my collection. I acquired it from 63 year old gentleman who was given this piece by the veteran that brought it back from the South Pacific. At the time he was given this blade he was 12 years old. I am surprised it survived) The wakizashi is classical soshu school and according to my advisor is textbook sue-soshu workmanship. The tang is signed Kunishige. It is most likely 17th century making it 350-400 years old.The previous owner had the sword examined at the Pittsburgh Militery show in 2004 and also antiques roadshow. I believe I have some notes from the previous owner I will send along if I can locate them. The Wak has wonderful horse menuki and very detailed fuchi and kushira. Set 2 Antique Daisho Japanese Tsuba Katana Samurai Swords Tokugawa mon Wakizashi
Description Set of 2 Imperial Daisho Japanese Swords- Set of 2 Imperial Japanese Swords- The daisho or matched set of swords are mounted in formal scabbards with Tokugawa mon and the fuchi(lower handle fitting) bears the samurai's clan mon- Unless these belonged to a wealthy samurai who could afford two sets of swords. He likely had a set of plain sacquer scabbards to be used for everyday wear- These blades appear to have been made by the same maker- which is rare- please see photos- Both swords have wakizashi- close to the length of a katana being called o-wakizashi and wakizashi closer to tanto length being called ko-wakizashi. Authentic Japanese SAMURAI Katana Sword Wakizashi Naginata Remodeled Very Rare
This is a Japanese wakizashi that is naginata remodeled one. It is unsigned but was judged as Echizen Kanenori and at the same time appraised as Hozon Token by NBTHK. It is estimated to have been made in Momoyama or early Edo period. So there are some aging blemishes, nevetherless. Does remain in healthy condition with no fatal flaw such as Hagire. Wakizashi in shirasaya , Aizu Kanesada, NBTHK Kicho paper
O wakizasi in shirasaya attributed as Aizu Kanesada Shinshinto blade by the NBTHK.
