The state can be described as good. The surface shows an intact dark brown patina without active rust. The tsuba is very skillfully done and wears applications made of silver or sahari. The applications are dark black/blueish patinated. They are only clear to see under specific lighting conditions. The tsuba has a very long lasting bright sound and corresponds to the Hazama-school(demonstration of caducity by deliberately aged surface and motive) in design and other features. It is most likely a Hazama utsushi in very high quality. Please judge from the pictures! All in all a very rare high quality sword guard in good condition, which can be mounted on a katana. This is a Japanese WWll Army pilot or tank crew's sword in mountings. The blade is unsigned. Shinogi-zukuri shape. Muromachi period ca.1550 era made old family blade. The blade is in old polish, shows light staines but no rust and in good condition. There is no nick, no crack temper and cutting edge is sharp. The temper line is wavy gunome-choji with kinsuji active temper throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is itamehada. Shows tiny coarse forging but not openings. The scabbard is leather covered wood scabbard, no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut. No loose and in good condition. Tsuba is marugata dragon motif iron tsuba with nice patina. This is a nice vintage Japanese Samurai Sword in the Wakizashi size. Sword is 23" long overall in the case. Blade is 19 91/6" long overall and has a nice patina, but no rust. Tsuba is iron with Butterfly designs. This sword was brought back from WW2 by an American G.I. Payment due within 3 days if made by PayPal, 7 days if by mail. Any questions, please inquire. An inch down mune-machi(back notch) with"440 STAINLESS/ CHINA" The blade of the sword is made of 440 stainless steel with an aesthetic hamon. The blade comes factory unsharpened. The length of the blade is approximately 18-1/2" and an overall length of 27" The scabbard of the sword are wooden poly resin shell. Snakeskin has been molded down the sides of the scabbard with a coiled snake at the bottom and top of the scabbard. A black cord sage-o has been tied on the upper part of the scabbard.
