Hi.Here for sale is an absolutely superb wakizashi. It has very high quality mounts and the blade is flawless with a deep rich color and contrast to the polish and stellar workmanship. It may be from the Horikawa school(kunihiro) or perhaps a very skillful bizen Sukesada. It will be very enlightening to submit this for papers to the NBTHK. The blade has no flaws,ripples bends,chips scratches,blisters,cracks nor any other flaws and the polish is in mint condition. The blade measures 19&4/4" tip to notch with an excellent powerful curvaturefor a Shinto period blade. It is 1&1/8" wide and over 1/4" thick. Very healthy and powerful. The hamon is brilliant and explosive in nioi-deki with many activities in nie as well. It has inazuma,kinsuji etc. The hada(grain pattern) is Itame and very rich and silky with no forging flaws ... moreat all. The mounts are a beautifully textural edo period black lacquer saya,an original linen braided tsuka with incredible fushi,kashira and menuki of kodogu(sword parts that are signed as well as the fushi is signed by the maker. The boshi is superb and bright and there is much grain visible in the point as well. The habaki is silver jacketed and original. A very high-quality habaki.The tsuba is an excellent pierced iron dragon motif with a tedious filigree of workmanship. This is what it's all about. Just an absolutely spectacular sword in every way. ANTIQUE JAPANESE SAMURAI SWORD WAKIZASHI TSUBA WITH BAT & WISTERIA GOLD SHAKUDO
This is a beautiful antique Edo era Japanese samurai sword tsuba. It's made of iron and adorned with a shakudo bat with gold eyes and wisteria in silver and gold gilt. The wisteria is considered an aristocratic flower in Japan. While the bat represents good luck. The tsuba measures 58 mm from top to bottom. Side to side is 52 mm. The opening for the sword tang is 28 mm x 8 mm. The thickness ranges from 3.5 mm in the center to about 2.5 mm at the edge. It weighs 54 grams. I would think this is more of a wakizashi size tsuba. The overall condition is perfect really, just a little patina on the foliage. I purchased this several years ago in Yamagata prefecture and it's been in the box and sitting inside a cabinet. I'm not selling it because it's not beautiful. It's just sad to see it not be apart of a more grand collection ... moreand on display for people to enjoy and study. This is a Japanese sword in honzukuri mountings. The blade is no signed.Shinogi-Zukuri shape, muromachi period ca.1550 era made Yamato school blade. The blade is in old full polish. Shows tiny scratches on surface but no stain, no rust and in very good condition. The temper line is Sugu temper pattern and Shallow return Ko-maru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight Straight-hada and one forging flaw at all. The scabbard is urushi lacquered wood scabbard. Shows lacquer crack but no dent and in good condition. The handle wrapp is old wrapping. Tight fit with Katakiri Shakudo fuchi and kashira with matched bow and arrow silver menukis. The tsuba is marugata shape Ume motif with gold inlay iron tsuba. The total length of the sword blade is 19 3/4" 15 1/8" cutting edge. As you can see in the photos most of the handle is missing. The black scabbard is also missing parts and has about a 3" crack. The blade has some nicks to the cutting edge. Still somewhat sharp. 400 Year Old Soshu School Wakizashi signed Kunishige Horse Menuki In New Polish
Note: Offering a nice soshu period Wakazashi. It measures overall 22 inches with a 13 inch cutting edge. The tang is signed Kunishige with very clear file marks. This item was brought back from the South Pacific Theater by an American G.I. It has a sharkskin or ray wrapped tuska with brown/gold ito and matching horse menuki and a bronze tsuba. A nicely detailed fuchi and Kashira that looks finely crafted. The habaki is copper with nice file work. I sent this blade to a professional polisher for a preservation polish and sharpening.
