Very Interesting Japanese Wakizashi Sword in Korean service with Enmeled Mount
Very interesting Japanese wakizashi most likely to date from the Mei Ji period with a much earlier blade. The lacquered wooden scabbard is mounted with a very unique Enameled piece of Korean workmanship so the sword may have actually been used by a Korean warrior in the late 1800s. Mounted with a Koto or Shinto period blade slightly shortened at the tang, showing semi polished finish with no major flaws and just light surface pores here and there, barely visible tamper line is mostly detectable curving around and on top of the tip area. Nicely braided bare wooden grip with gilded bronze or iron mounts depicting fine and intricate details, large silvered copper habbaki with filed netting and lack of the notch, also resembling those used on Korean examples. VERY RARE EDO PERIOD ZUTSU A rare Wakizashi Zutsu decorated in crushed Mother of Pearl to an excellent standard. The lid which has at some time had restoration work in Japan is, as expected finished to the same high standard in black matt lacquer work, with two brass/copper original catches to secure it. Inlayed into the Mother of Pearl in brass is the family kamon, believed to be a branch of the Kyogoku clan. There are a couple of small surface cracks to the base. Click them a second time to enlarge. Item Description: I am pleased to offer this original and old hand-made Japanese sword. Or Nihonto. Brought back from WWII. The sword is a Koto wakizashi from the well-known swordsmith Mino Kanetsugu and is samurai-mounted. The blade and the mountings are in Very Good condition. The sword has a blade length of 18 inches(46cm) It features a strong shape and curvature. The hada is a well-grained itame. The hamon is a Mino-style togari gunome that is present the length of the blade ending in a jizo ... moreboshi. The tang is signed Noshu ju Kanetsugu and is ubu. Or un-shortened. It also shows Mino style higaki yasurime. Or crossed filemarks. Mino Kanetsugu was a line of very well-regarded swordsmiths working ca. 1400-1550 as part of the famous Mino tradition. This looks to be by a generation working ca. 1500. Making the sword Koto. Fujishiro rates Kanetsugu as chu jo saku. The blade comes in original Samurai mountings. They are in Very Good condition. The tsuka wrapped in black silk cord with little to no fraying. The tsuba is iron and shows a wave theme. The habaki is highly stylized with sukashi mon on both sides. The saya(scabbard) is lacquered black. It shows some areas of missing finish and is slightly split at the end. Retaining ~90-95% original finish. The blade is in Very Good condition. There are some small micro nicks. There are just a few small spots of rust and some scratches that look like light buffing along its length. There are 1-2 very small ware. There do not appear to be any major flaws like hagire. Given the reputation of the swordsmith and high degree of craftsmanship displayed. JAPANESE WAKIZASHI IN SHIRASAYA WWII PICK UP
This is a classic Kambun(1661- 1673) Shinto wakizashi. Unsigned and mounted in shirasaya. I do not want to force the wooden habaki. And my tape measure has wandered off, the approximate length of the cutting edge is 15 inches. The blade is greyed, but the temper pattern is a fairly wide irregular gunome. There is a 1 cm long ware in the hamon, 8 cm back from the point. There is a remnant of a surrender tag glued to the scabbard, which someone did their best to remove. This is not a treasure sword to be restored. It is an example of a 350 year old weapon for a not very prosperous samurai or merchant. This is a Japanese sword wakizashi in shirosaya mountings. The blade is unsigned, shinogi-zukuri shape. Muromachi period ca.1550 era made blade. The blade is in old full polish, shows tiny staines but no rust, no bend, no nick, and cutting edge is sharp. The temper line is wavy chu-suguba temper pattern throughout the blade and has ko-maru temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. It is rested in ho-wood shirasaya mountings. No crack, no bend. It measures 17+1/4" cutting edge, 1+1/16" width, 5 mm thickness at the notch and 24+1/2" in mountings. Fine Antique Japanese O-Wakizashi Late Muromachi Period in Full Polish
This is a superb example of a late Muromachi to early Edo period Wakizashi in Full Japanese Keisho Polish. Complete with Habakki and Shirasaya. Blade is Mumei with Ubu Nakago and one Mekugi ana. Shape: Shinogi Zukuri Nagasa: 21 ½” Nakago: 5 ¾” Sori: 11/16” Hamon: Shuguha Hada: Masame It has a two piece gold washed copper Habakki. There is age appropriate Ware. Absolutely no Fukure. Ha-Gire, Karasuguchi or other fatal flaws. This blade is very healthy with lots of niku.

The blade is in old polish, shows light staines but no rust and in good condition. The temper line is chu-suguba temper pattern throughout the blade and has turn back temper at the point. The forging grain is itame-hada, no forging flaws. The scabbard is old urushi lacquered wood scabbard. Shows minor lacquer loss but no dent, no crack and in good condition. Original Antique WWII Vet Bring Back Samurai Sword Wakizashi 18 1/4" Blade
I don't know how to date this but I believe it is an early one. The blade measures 18 1/4 inches from the tip to the notch by the tang. The blade has some scratch marks. Wear, dark spots and the tip looks like it was resharpened mostly noticeable on one side. The wood handle has a thick coating with a textured look inside the finish, there are chips and cracks in the coating and wood seam.

Overall length is 24 inches and Kissaki to Munemachi is approx. 17 3/4 inches. It is a heavy non ferrous alloy- possibly a mix of Zinc and Magnesium. The plating and faux Hamon on the side with the Dragon is intact, but the side with the Bonji is mostly flaked off and a little rough. Tang's dark color is painted on. This is a Muromachi era(1392-1573) wakizashi length Japanese Sword with features consistent to estimate its origin is from the Soshu school. It is in an old. Fair state of polish but unfortunately it is flawed. The last polish was not good to it and the Hamon has vanished along the cutting edge in a number of places. It still retains some components of its original signature but having been cut short it lost the rest of its mei. It is signed"Minamoto Iye- This sword was purchased from a well respected sword merchant online and is genuine. The signature is considered genuine by myself and the merchant who I purchased it from. Features of this blade include: O-suriage. Hirazukure shape, Nagasa of 12.83" Horimono of a ken with vajra hilt, Horimono of a dragon, Mokume nagare hada, Fine Jinie, Chikei nado, Miniature hamon, Ko notare ... moremidare, Ko choji, Ha nie, Small Tobiyaki. The blade comes with its original habaki which I believe is silver plated. I can't tell for sure. It also comes with the remaining portion of its saya which is shown.
