Up for Auction is an Authentic Antique Japanese Wakizashi Sword. The blade measures 17 1/2" from tip to beginning of the Habaki. The total sword length is 26" The Habaki is covered in a Silver leaf. The Fuchi Koshira are matching with images of a bird flying out of a cage. And are inlaid in Gold. The blade has a nice hamon. The cord on the handle is ripped, and the tip of the blade has some nicks as can be seen in the pictures. I could not find a signature on the blade. Kaneshige is one of the"ten disciples of Masamune" and was the teacher of Kotetsu(one of the most sought after smiths of the Shinto period)Yasusada and Kotetsu's work are often mistaken for each other by the experts. Yasusada swords have been known to pass 3 body cutting tests, most swords do not pass 2. There are only 3 generations of Yasusada. The first and second generation were rated ryowazamono/ wazamono in the book"Kokin Kaji Bikosen" by Yoshichika for their supreme cutting ability, and Josaku/ chujosaku for their high quality of work by famed polisher Fujishiro Matsuo. Not many works are known to exist by 3rd generation. They worked in Musashi province c. 1648/1673. It is not known which generation this one is by because they all signed similar. The sword has some grain openings, none of which are fatal flaws and will not stop from papering. Soten Tsuba Kinko Dia-Sho Late Edo Shiremono Katana & Wakizashi Fuchi kashira
This Soten style Tsuba set is called Dia-Sho. Meaning both Katana ande wakizashi size tsuba. These two pieces were produced at the end of the Edo period around the late 1800's or early 1900's after the war in the 16th century when swords and sword parts making were made and sold as gifts, still rich with history but value and quality demminished. Many tsuba and swords were baned forcing many of the fine Tsuba Craftsmen to resort to reoproductions of the Tsuba and totally banning the Katana. Leaving some clever townsfolk to gathere many of the used, distroyed and broken sword pieces, and turning the useless fragments into still effective kitchen knives still used by some towns people today. This sword does not have a signature on the tang. Which means Samurai sword experts at the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai(NBTHK. Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword) must review all the characteristics of the blade and to determine who they think the swordsmith was. This sword was submitted for judging(known as“ shinsa” Twice. In the first"shinsa" the sword was certified as Tokubetsu Kitcho(Especially Precious) and it was surmised that created this sword. However. The sword was submitted again after the rating NBTHK rating system was changed in 1982, and in the second"shinsa" it was decided that actually Ujifusa was the swordsmith and the status of Hozon(Worth of Preservation) was given according to the new scheme. This is an amazing antique sword I inherited from my father. What I know of it is this. It was polished two years ago in Japan, a major expense for my father. I cannot find who polished it. Though I know it was a reputable person at the time. It is from the early 1500s. Signed bizen osafune nagamitsu. I know it is without fatal flaw. And a very sturdy sword. The Shira saya was made at time of polish. So is roughly 2 years old. The sword measures at just over 22 inches. The cutting edge measuring at just over 17 inches. Japanese Samurai Authentic Katana/wakizashi Koto sword
Up for sale is a Authentic Japanese Samurai sword. This blade appears to be either Nambokocho(1300's) or the latest Muramachi(1400's to 1500's) That said the blade does show it's old age. The blade does have a couple of chips. Openings and a blister. The blade's edge measures 23.5" it is 1 1/8' wide and almost 1/4' thick. This blade at one point would have been much longer but over the century's it has been shorten. Perhaps it was last shorten for the soldier that carry this family heirloom into battle during WW ll like his fore fathers did before him. The blade rest in a WW ll saya that has a leather combat cover over the sheath. The handle is missing and there is no other fittings. It's difficult to make out the temper in places but you can see that it is a ko- gonome suguba based. This blade would ... moremake a great display for the wall of an original Samurai for sword with out having to spend thousands of dollars. Or maybe for the amatuer polisher that needs to practice on a real sword with out ruining a master piece. The blade is what it is, or just use it as a cutter, it would be better then a Machette for sure. Mumei O wakizashi katana muromachi higo nihonto japanese sword samurai
This is a mumei o wakizashi. Just short of katana length. It was shortened probably during the beginning of the Edo or end of the muromachi. This sword was appraised by one of the most talented of sword judges in the west and will come with appraisal papers. The blade is most likely Kai Mihara mid mor late muromachi. The middle and late muromachi mihara smiths are almost all rated chujosaku or josaku. This is as classic of a sword as you can find, with a style that started in the 12th century and was copied by every smith and every school until present times. This blade style was copied over the centuries more so than any other style and shape, simply because it was the all around best, and most preferred by samurai that actually had to face battle. The Mihara smiths new this and continued to produce this style blade when other schools were ... morefancying up their blades. The mihara school stayed true to form, and what they knew from the early koto what was best for one thing and one thing only, survival of the samurai. This blade maybe in original koshirae from the time it was shortened. The saya looks to be shortened as well, probably with the blade, which was probably tachi. The mounts have been judged Higo. I do not have the original fuchi on the blade but I will include it. It is done in makie inlay but most has worn off. The saya had makie on the iron parts as well but only traces are left. The ito has been replaced with silk ito wrap at an unknown period. The kozuka was not original to blade, and was taken off. I believe the tsuka has real same(sharkskin) full wrap, which was only seen on real old tsukas, I was told by a professional ito wrap specialist. The menukis are shakudo scholars. The tsuba is the print of the 3 toed dragon. It is very rare that an original period koshirae survives. Blade has excellent color, with an almost purple tint. Antique Faux Ivory Carved Bone Wakizashi Japanese dagger Wakizashi translates as'side inserted sword' and was one of the two samurai swords. Due to it's smaller size the ornate Wakizashi was allowed to be worn by the merchant class. This one seems to be made for a merchant in the textile trade. The carvings show an array of everyday scenes in amazing detail. But cloth seems to be a common feature. Antique 14th century Koto Japanese Sword Samurai Katana Wakizashi Set
For auction is this nice Japanese wakizashi sword collectors set. The blade is easily recognizable as a very old koto blade from its nice old ancient shape with its typicaly deep curvature and curved upper portion. The signature of the smith also supports its age. Signed: Nio Kagekiyo 二王景清 He worked in the second part of the 14th century and was a good smith. The blade is in fine minty sharp japanese polish with no scratches. Nicks, rust etc. the condition of the blade is especialy good for its age, there is small typical kizu, nothing bad at all. The tip is healthy with nice boshi with brush strokes turning back. The flamboyant temperline, gunome-midare-choji is realy beautiful with fine activities, Nie on nioi deki(separate crystals on milky way) sunagashi(brush strokes, stream of sand) ashi, kinsuji etc. the pictures do not show the beauty ... moreof this blade well enough. The grain pattern is also very nice. Easy to see all the way, a realy nice elegantly shaped and curved blade. The tang is untouched. Unaltered with original mei hole and deep patination, hard to find unaltered blade from such an old age. The Edo koshirae has a finely urushi lacquered saya in great condition. Quality old sageo, the iron tsuba is good quality also with finely detailed pierced delicate flowers, the tsuka has old tight ito, dark sharkskin with pretty thick nice menukies, iron fuchi and kashira, realy old handle made for durability and good grip. It also has a copper seppa and wooden blade. The blade is housed in good quality japanese shirasaya and has its nice old thick gold covered ribbed copper habaki. Nice piece for sure. There is an old ricepaper glued onto the saya holding some information. The name of the smith and production era. The sword also comes with copy of japanese registration card and export paper. Everything mentioned and pictured sold in this auction. The full complete set, ready to enjoy. Highly recommended realy nice curved sword from the 14th century.
