Vintage 10 x 10 Inch VIKING TOM-TOM. A nice small tom by this little known company- not sure if it's the same one. But there was a company in England during the 1970's&80's that went by the name of Viking Drums(see notes, below) That said, there are no country of origin markings anywhere I can see, so please examine the pictures carefully and do your own research. Comes with lightly used REMO Weather King Ambassador Batter top head and a lightly used EVANS All Weather Oil Filled HYDRAULIC bottom skin(both Made in USA) Unknown date(circa 1980's? Looks like some sort of plastic finish over a(birch? plywood form. M easures: 10" diameter(inner rim) x 10" deep. Condition: In about very good overall condition with only light wear from previous use. Notes: Googling turned up very little on this maker but I found the ... morefollowing on drummer chat boards: Viking Drums were made at a small drum shop in Jarrow. England. The nearest big city is Newcasstle upon Tyne. The shop was there from the mid-70s to the early 80s, so sadly it's long since gone. I used to go into the shop when I was a kid and yearn for the gear, which at the time i could ill-afford! The manager/owner was a guy called Mike Lewis. I don't know if he's still around. The Viking name came from the Vikings who raided the town and many other English towns and villages in the Dark Ages and for which the town is well-known for. Mike Ellis. Cited by many as the leading authority on English vintage drums post 1950, had an endorsement deal with Viking Drums during his early playing career. As well as extensive session work in Manchester, including The Distractions, George Clinton, Simply Red and many others, he toured Europe, completed sessions in Frankfurt in 1984/5, returned to the UK in 1987 where he sessioned and produced in Manchester and London and in 1988 endured a short stint with PJ Proby.
