Tall Antique Victorian Oak Cylinder Desk Carved Secretary Glass Front Shelves
Fantastic Victorian era cylinder top desk. Made from oak with pine secondary woods. Panelled back and sides. The large upper cabinet has flexible. Movable shelves and period glass doors. It rests atop a cylinder or roll top desk area with a small drawer and several pigeon holes. The writing surface is covered in black felt and pulls out to provide a larger area. There is a large overhanging drawer as well as two smaller drawers and a cabinet below, for even more storage. All of the drawers have brass pulls and escutcheons and dovetail joints. The lower area is spoon carved in a charming leaf pattern. This piece most likely dates from the late 1800's. This piece is in good condition. But does have some cosmetic flaws, as is to be expected in a piece of this age. Several of the escutcheons are missing as well as the door pulls on the upper ... morecabinet. The drawer pulls are loose as well and one of the escutcheons looks like it has been reattached. There is a piece of wood missing from the molding below the desk top as well. See picture) There is also significant wear to the felted writing surface. No other significant damage or repairs. The entire desk stands about 88" 7'4" tall. This is a very nice an unusual silver plated Victorian presentation trophy which as you can see is lidded. First the lid. you will see it has a really well sculptured GREYHOUND. LURCHER or other SIGHTHOUND.wearing a collar only. well formed and modelled.this is on a flat surface and then is attached to the lid. The whole trophy has been well polished and alot of the plating is worn off. Dont let that put you off as silver ... moreplate can be re-plated these days so its not really a problem. The trophy has two handles of good square section form and slight decoration too. and alot of chasing and engraving design of swirls and foliage which has a rear frosted appearance. as well as that it has 6 panels which have been vacant. ONLY 1 has been engraved. the other 5 have nothing in them and have never been engraved either. You will see in the centre panel a really well fine detailed engraving scene of HARE COURSING. with a HORSE& RIDER top left and two GREYHOUNDS running right chasing after a HARE which can be seen lower right side. with ground engraved too. good attention to detail on the engraving.this panel is 3inch x 3inch. Where the trophy comes down to the egg shape it is a little bent just here so please look at my close up pics. when it is displayed on a shelf it has a slight leaning backward look about it due to the bend here. It would make an ideal trophy for the sport now in the countries it is still legal in and you could engrave the winners on the vacant panels.it could do with re-plating too of course.or a fabulous centrepiece to any HU

This is a very rare and incredibly ornate Victorian Reed& Barton silver plated teapot(could it be water pot. Coffee pot or chocolate pot as well. I have never seen such ornate and detailed design before. With the interesting shape and the lions heads on the top of the lid, the interesting design and the mysterious material of the handle, the flowers( came out of the lions mouths, and the human's heads on the legs of the pot. Truly mysterious and beautiful, just an amazing example of Victorian ornate piece. The cream colored material looks like hard pressed plastic or rubber or bone to me. Victorian Shipwright's Gimlets and Twist Gimlets Albert 'Ajax' Adams' collection
9 Victorian Shipwright's Gimlets and Twist Gimlets. Part of my father's collection. Albert‘Ajax’ Adams 1885-1973 was an apprentice Shipwright. Later a Naval Constructor. Designer of HMS Ajax(whose diary“A Year at Sea on HMS Implacable 1909” is available on Google) Lengths vary from 10" to 3" The distinction between them is as follows. A Gimlet is a small drilling tool made of a steel rod. Hollow on one side with a slight spiral form and a worm or screw at the end. The worm pulls the gimlet into the hole as it is turned and the cutting edges of the cylinder pare away the wood. The resulting hole is truly cylindrical. The Twist Gimlet has a continuous spiral cutter with a slight tapering. It cuts faster and cleaner and clears the waste wood better than the Gimlet. Leaving a tapered hole.

Photos to follow. Late 1800's art tile made by the Robertson Tile Co. of Morrisville.Pa. Marked on the back. This tile measures 3" x 3" x 1/2" thick. Stylized botanicals in a blue grey and mauve/wine glaze. Unless tilted in the light,this tile appears perfect. The border has some light rub/abrasion that can't be seen looking straight at the tile. When tilted,it shows as dull spots/very fine scratches.Really a beautiful tile! This is a beautiful small plate or saucer dish depicting a maiden with long flowing hair. It is trimmed in a dark green with gold gilt highlights and floral designs. Marked on the bottom with a red crown and the words Victoria Austria and some numbers which I think are 223 but they are smeared so I can't really tell. Up for auction is an attractive Victorian Aesthetic Movement Print& Tint floral tile made by T A Simpson of Stoke on Trent. This tile has a pretty central image with a black diamond decorated with a number of seashells& seaweed in red. Brown, yellow& white. The diamond is surrounded by a beaded border, a contrasting circular border with sprigs& quarter flowers to the corners. The tile is printed in sepia on a cream coloured ground and then hand tinted in the colours mentioned above. The surface of the tile has a nice glossy finish. The tile measures 6 inches(15 cms) square& is over 1/2 an inch deep. It is very heavy for a tile of this size and weighs approx 625g. Up for auction is a fabulous red& white printed Victorian tile maker unknown. I have seen this tile in several different colours but it looks particularly striking in red. This tile is printed in red on an off white background. There is a large floral spray covering most of the tile. A central inner circle is coloured dark red. With the remainder of the tile a paler red almost pinkish colour. The surface of the tile has a nice glossy finish. The tile measures 6 inches square. See condition report in section above. Would have been green compartment lined when first made. The richer you were. The more of these chests you had. Working lock and key.bonus not many old chests still have a key. Also a hasp& loop has been added later in its long life for more locking options. It has no damage has some surface marks from use over 120 years or so. No wear to the silver plate. Lanternier Limoges Flower Tray Another piece that I found tonight which looked fantastic. The A Lanternier& Co. tray is in excellent condition. Made after 1855 it has a Victorian feel to it. This hard paste porcelain had excellent gilding and the hand painting looks magnificent. With no chips.
