IL- ... moreFar west Chicago suburbs) UP FOR AUCTION: A gorgeous. Vintage, Art Deco, walnut waterfall-style cedar-lined blanket or hope chest. Elegant contrasting veneer inlay work on front center. It's unmarked as to maker. I think it's likely circa early to mid-1900s. I believe it's in original condition. It has one interior. Multi-sectioned drawer on hinges(in need of minor repair-see below) It's constructed of walnut veneer with cedar lining, and secondary hardwood(s) The back is unfinished. Wonderful for storage and display or seating, it's both beautiful and superbly useful. CONDITION: Overall. I think it's in nice vintage condition. Solid and sturdy. Only the tiniest bit of veneer loss that I can see: a few tiny chips along the back edge. Minor nicks, imperfections normal to vintage furniture. It does have some flaws: 1) the top surface has superficial scratches and age-related splits in the veneer(but they seem shallow enough to me that I think just polyurethane(were the top refinished) and/or a walnut-tone pore filler would be enough to fill them for a flawless(or nearly so) top. 2) In the interior. Lid, left side, the wood affixing the screw supporting the pull-out shelf is stripped(please see photos; the drawer is just propped in place in the photo) so is in need of this repair. I'd probably suggest filling the oversized hole with wood scraps and glue to fill, then redrilling the hole(possibly a larger screw would work) this is left to the buyer. 3) The locks on these old chests pose a safety hazard to children(won't open from within; children can suffocate inside) and can't be sold with the lock in place. I've removed and discarded it. Leaving just the hardware(for aesthetics) so it simply opens and closes, and can be opened from inside. Long before the days of recycling. This vintage 1800's pine trunk with rolled on finish was partially made from a striped pine barber shop sign. The entire front interior boards bare the original red, white blue and gold Barber Shop wood sign recycled and incorpoated in this pine trunk with rolled on grain finish including rolled on dowl pins in corners. It measures 48 by 26 by 24 inches and is in very good condition with cast metal handles. A small box is built into one edge of the trunk. Up for bid is a gorgeous. Rustic vintage steamer trunk. I am not sure about the brand or label. I am not sure about the age either,but as I researched and compared it to the other listings, I believe it is from the 1940's or earlier. The leather straps are broken, and they are almost entirely gone, but the hinges and latches are still attached.There is no key. Some of the metals are also present, but rusted. There is no tray inside. It seems that it used to be covered with canvas, but it is faded and almost entirely gone. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful rustic piece that can be a coffee table in its present, original state or when its restored. Great for a steam punk style project. Antique Trunk Restored! Beautiful! Circa 1880's to 1890's
For sale today is a very nicely restored medium size humpback trunk and the restoration turned out just great. I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 40 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1880's to 1890's which makes this great old humpback a 100 plus years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the bottom is solid. Has the original slats, the wood has multiple coats of paint applied and give two coats of clear. The four original metal wheels work well and the trunk rolls easily. There are three original hinges that are heavy duty, tight, polished, work well and the lid closes well. A new black leather lid lifter was installed. The original center lock has been polished, there is no key and the top half of the lock is missing. There are ... more35 plus pieces of polished hardware on the trunk. The two original mechanical latches are HD, fancy, polished and both work. The interior has been removed and the tray is long gone. All the metal/tin on the trunk is in VGC. Has the original metal lid stay and the lid closes well. A new black leather lid lifter was installed. The trunk has 12 original solid oak slats in a golden oak color. Two new black leather handles were installed with the original end caps. Antique Blue Steamer Trunk - Wooden Frame with Metal Corners & Braces
This is a nice bright blue steamer trunk. With metal corners, hardware and strapping. I believe the walls, bottom and lid are made of thin plywood with an exterior lining of sheet metal.Measuring about 29½" x 14½" and about 10¼" tall, it has a single leather or faux leather carrying handle on the front, right beside the lock. The inside is lined with paper printed with a wood grain design. I don't know the age of it, but it looks mid twentieth century, doesn't it? I also don't see any sign of manufacturer identification, and no labels to tell where it traveled. It has some surface scuffs and scratches. Especially on the top and bottom, in fact there are some distinct pressure dents around the edge of the lid, as shown in the third picture below. The originally outside canvas covering and interior paper have been removed to show the beauty of the pine wood. The wood was sanded and refinished with stain and multiple coats of sealer. All hardware is original and in excellent shape. The hinges and lid stay are strong and work properly. All hardware was cleaned and sealed. The lock does not have a key. The leather side handles are new. The bottom is clean. It has the original tray. This trunk 32" wide X 25" high X 19" deep. It has an unusual piece of embossed metal on top. The cost of packing. This is a great antique trunk that is all original. There is a name that was applied to the back of the trunk(previous owner? and buyer might want to do some restoration to that area and have that removed. Lid is very sturdy and this trunk is in it's original state and in extremely good condition and free of wood splits and gouges. Lid hinges are in great shape and trunk has dovetail seams. Antique Hartmann steamer trunk wardrobe drawers cloth early 1900's
For your consideration is an antique steamer trunk. Dates to the late 1800 to early 1900's. There are stickers on the truck. Which I did not remove. Germany and Scotland. Has a wonderful cloth pattern on the outside similar to L. Vitton trunks. Features 4 drawers and a wardrobe area to hang cloths. The drawers lock into place and are lined, wood on the outside. The top drawer has a key lock(not included) When you pull out the drawer, there is a leaver that you turn which unlocks the other drawers. The wardrobe side includes the hangers shown(5) and the top opens to ease in getting the hangers out. the metal slats for the hangers to slide out as well, however the right one is hard to push. Has a fabric cloth to cover the clothes from the drawers. This is a large heavy truck, but in pretty good shape for it's age and the number of trips ... moreit has taken over the years. This is a grand old Jenny Lind Travel Trunk that is made of pine wood and has iron latches and support strips. The trunk is a copy of the old Jenny Lind travel type made famous by her. The trunk is dated about 1940 or so. It has been reconditioned as there is slight discoloration in hidden places. The truck is wonderful. It's strong and sturdy ready to haul heavy items or simply to store blankets and such. The trunk is naturally distressed all over, there are cracks in the wood that lend to its beauty and charm. The trunk measures 14 inches tall, 26 inches from side to side and it has a 4 inch top lid that opens to reveal a 3 1/2 inch tall pull out shelf. The trunk is stained with a nice light stain and there are leather handles on each side. The trunk has some weight to it so shipping will be costly. Yixing Teapot Artist Made Tree Trunk
I found this little teapot and fell in love with it. Intending to make tea with it and never did. The little research that I did do told me it was an yixing teapot. Made in China both commercially and artist made. This one. Of a bark with tiny beige flecks, is signed both underneath and inside the lid. The lid fits very snugly and doesn't move at all. The clay is very dark brown. It measures 7 inches from handle to spout.About 3 1/2 inches high. The two fleabites on lid are so small that they are impossible to photograph.

Old decoration with the year 1813 painted on the lid of the trunk. Beautiful floral painting on the front.
