You will find this to be a beautiful piece. The condition is a bit rough but as expected for an item that has been used extensively. Imagine this being loaded onto a train car in the early 1900's or a Cruise Ship in the 1950s. I consider it to be in working condition though since the hinges and latches still work. However the key is missing. Some of the leather straps are missing as well but can be replaced for a reasonable price. This would be perfect for use in your entryway. Hard to believe they were just giving them away But he WAS an ingenious teenager! I will ask him the next time we talk. My Dad drilled two small holes and put this nice quality linked necklace on the Trans Am emblem and gave it back to my Mom. My Mom wore it everywhere as she rode the back of my Dad's Honda 750. Gorgeous Unique& Rare Condition Antique Steamer Trunk Amazingly this is a steamer trunk that had never been painted. Also had embossed tin, and still had the beautiful green enamel paint intact that the embossed tin was originally painted with! Also the trunk still has both handles intact. Neither look like they have been replaced, and it still has its original tray Even more exceptional. The trunk has a working LOCK& KEY: even the bottom of the trunk is in totally blean unrusted almost perfect condition. Even has a labeled where it was shipped at least one time from Danville KY in the 1920's I would estimate however that the age of the trunk is more around the late 1800's The trunk has been thoroughly cleaned& conserved. The wood has been cleaned, taken back to its original color, and finished, the metal was cleaned as ... morewell The inside of the trunk was stripped of all the old paper. This is a good thing to do so it rids the trunk of any old dust, allergens, smells, etc. Normally I will leave the inside as bare wood. It is a fine way to leave the inside(bare) or the new owner can then finish out the inside to their individual taste! This would be a great coffee table trunk. Corbin steamer trunk - 1930's
This is a Corbin Cabinet Lock Co steamer trunk from the early 20th century. Not sure of exact date. But railway tag is labeled 1935. Has owners initials painted on the side(G.U.W. as well as'Brooklyn, NY' Cast iron hasps are decorative and labeled'4' The lock is in very good condition and appear to have been hand finished with a technique resembling engine turning. Has several travel tags attached. Interior is cloth lined, the top tray has gone missing some time ago. This would make a great restoration project or it has plenty of character as is! All the leather straps are worn out. But all of the nails are there. Wood runners are in good condition as are the hardware. No Key. This was stored for many years in a home in northern NJ. Surprisingly, there is really no musty smell inside and the inside is fairly clean.
