Chinese Tea Canister, Early 1900's, Hand Soldered, Part of Tea Caddy, Very Good
This is a listing for an antique tea canister made in Canton. China. It is hand-soldered and was likely part of a tea caddy set. It features a floral paper sticker on its lid. The top surface of the canister is covered in a red and gilt regular pattern of circles with dots and lines alternating with smaller stylized flowers. There is a paper label on the bottom of the canister, which reads, Produced in Canton China" The canister measures 3 7/8" long by 2 13/16" wide by approximately 2 1/8" tall with its lid. The lid is about 1 3/4" in diameter. The tin is free of dents but does have moderate oxidation commensurate with its age. This eight-sided 18th Century tea box is called the Williamsburg Octagonal Tea Caddy as produced by the Kittinger Co. in the 1950s or early 1960s. The old Kittenger Colonial Williamsburg catalog number is AP 101. The Williamsburg Tea Caddy is a copy of an English Chippendale portable tea chest of 1760.It has 25 separate hand-assembled mahogany wood sections. The hinge& handle are brass. The interior is foil lined and the brass key and lock still are in working order. All original components still intact including handle, hinge, escutcheon, key and lock. These boxes were designed to hold tea but can be used for tobacco or jewelry. Size is 5 1/2 inches high(to brass handle) and 6 ¼ inches diameter. The tea caddy weighs more than a pound. It stands about 4" tall with a diameter of about 3.75" It some evidence of use since it about 82 years old This is a very decorative piece from about the 1930's. SCROLL DOWN FOR PICTURES. This auction is for a very fine Chinese Tea Caddy made from Jade and silver covered with gold gilt. And decorated with enamel. It is about 6 1/8" tall. Excellent condition. Marked Silver on the base. And on the inside base. Also stamped 22 on the inside of the rim. Circa late 19th or early 20th Century. This item is hard to capture in photographs. The first 14 pictures were taken outside in natural light. The remaining pictures were taken indoors with flash. This is a fabulous piece. This auction ends the evening of Wednesday Feb 27th Up for auction is a Matching Set of Two Fine Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Lidded Vases or Tea Caddy Jars. The Vases are very finely and intricately detailed throughout. The Vases have a nice old patina to the metal mounts. Along with turquoise blue enameled interiors making them practical for use. I was told the Vases would date from around the c1900 late Qing period, which by the qualities I believe to be a correct dating. I believe they could have been made to hold tea, but could be used for a variety of items or just for displaying as well. The Vases could use a light cleaning, but are overall in very fine original condition with no chips, cracks, enamel loss, or repairs. The Vases measure 3-1/2 inches tall by 3-3/4 inches wide. The Jar itself has a nice faceted form. And the porcelain is carved all around which is found on the earlier finer quality Qianlong examples. The Tea Caddy jar also has a lid which fits the jar perfectly and is possibly original. The Jar has chips around the outer rims which is very commonly found on examples of this age. But overall for its age the Jar is in good untouched original condition with no cracks, or repairs. The Tea Caddy Jar displays nicely measuring 4-3/4 inches tall by 3-3/4 inches wide. A beautful early 19th century Chinese Export wood and lacquer box with Chinoiserie decoration throughout. Of octagonal shape with gilt animal paw feet. The interior with two fitted metal containers for holding tea- these are further decorated with incised engravings. As found condition- loss of lacquer decoration throughout- one paw is detached though preset and would be easy to glue back on. Tea container inserts are made of a heavy soft metal and are dented and left canister is split at the top left seam- see photos. An authentic early piece. Measures 8" x 5 1/2" x 5 1/4 tall. This is a 3& 1/2" long tea caddy spoon or scoop. At the top is a bronze medallion enameled with the words North East Coast Exhibition. May-Oct, 1929. Some of the white enamel is lost in the feathers at the top but the red and blue enameling is intact. In the center appears a building or gate from the exhi bition which was held in Newcastle. Tyne and Wear. It was opened by King Edward VII on May 14. 1929 and closed on October 2 6. 19 29. Over 4 million people attended the fair. This piece has some loss to the plating but is very stur dy and evocative of the British and the fair itself. A nice old souvenir.

Up for auction is a gorgeous vintage sterling silver tea caddy made by Lunt. The caddy is about 3 3/4" high and 2 3/4" in diameter. It is in excellent condition. CONT EUROPEAN SILVER COVERED TEA CADDY 1780-1820 Presented is an interesting antique continental European tea caddy or covered sugar bowl. The front of the tea caddy is engraved with a nice monogram of PQ&F inside a wreath. The lid is nicely engraved as well and topped with a wooden finial capped in silver. The tea caddy is well made and has good weight for its size. This piece has pretty good age to it. It was probably made in continental Europe. In fact there is almost nowhere else that this piece could have been made. It doesn't seem to be Spanish colonial. It was most likely made between 1780 and 1820, but it is difficult to say for certain. The underside of the caddy has the old zigzag assay test mark. It is also marked with a shield. A PA mark, and another ... moremark which is largely worn although the letters NSEA are discernible. These would be the last letters in the word. The tea caddy is tested and guaranteed to be at least 800 purity silver, although appears to be higher in purity. The sugar bowl is in fair condition. There is one dent to the base as you can see in the photographs. This could be straightened if you wish. There also appears to be an old repair to the lower edge of the bowl where little pieces of metal were used to brace it. I suppose this could be the original construction. But I believe it is more likely a repair. There are also a few small splits to the upper rim of the bowl where the lid rests, but this is quite minor and does not affect the bowl itself. There are no other dents, no other repairs, and no breaks. The covered sugar bowl measures 4 inches in diameter and 3 1/4 inches tall. The weight is 270.1 grams or 9.5 ounces. Made of painted tin/tole, well-worn red on the sides and back, and black on the front with a small cluster of pink and red flowers, and"TEA" in large gold( also worn) letters. The bowl wriggle work decoration and is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1817 with makers mark T.B. 3.5" long.
