This vintage Navajo woven tapestry was purchased in the late 1970s or early 1980s. It was hung on the wall for a while and then stored away. There is a hanging strip basted on the end of the rug so that it would not be damaged when hung. I'll leave it on so you can hang it if you like. BIG! 28" Antique Silk Embroidery Picture Georgian Needlework Tapestry Gilt Frame
In my several years of collecting antiques. This large and beautiful wool on silk embroidered picture is the oldest thing to enter my house. It is a Georgian needlework(that is, it was made in England during King George II's reign: late 1700s or early 1800s) It portrays the Biblical scene of Christ at Gesthemane: Jesus is contemplating the beautiful golden angel's"cup of poison" with a troubled expression, while his sleepy disciples doze in the background. This piece is exquisitely detailed and has wonderful rich color; I've included a number of closeup photos so that you can see the lovely details in the hand-painted canvas and the shading in the embroidery. Jesus is the focal point, in his gorgeous cherry-red embroidered wool robes; the disciple in the foreground wears sky blue shaded with sapphire, and the angel is ... moredone in a range of shimmery golds, soft greys and creamy off-whites. I'm not sure what all of the brown shapes on the ground around Jesus's feet are supposed to be! Including the dimensions of the frame. This piece measures 28 inches tall by 23 inches wide by 2.25 inches thick. The large, heavy wood and gesso gilt frame is original to the piece, and the antique glass is reverse-painted with a black border. The back of the frame has a wonderful antique label from a restorer's business: it reads"L. Tayler, Picture Cleaner(from 32 Little Bell Alley) The label looks as if it cannot be more recent than the 19th century; I did a little bit of research and looked up"Little Bell Alley, and found that it was a street in London that existed at least as early as the 1700s. It is interesting to think that this picture was already old enough to need restoring when"L. Tayler" came along. I removed the picture from the frame in order to gently clean the glass. In the process of doing so. I made a discovery that helps to date the piece: the frame's inside edges are lined with antique printed pages. Antique English Crossley Tapestry, The Scottish Gamekeeper C1850/1860
This is one of two tapestries I am selling separately on eBay. It is a very rare English Crossley Mosaic Tapestry. Titled The Scottish Gamekeeper. Crossley developed a unique method of making these Tapestries which date from c1850 to c1860. The tapestry fibres are so fine it looks like a painting from a distance. When Crossley stopped making them in the 1860s he never passed the secret of the technique on. So they are very rare items, you normally only find them in museums in England. This is in good condition for 150 year old tapestry and it looks like it is probably in its original frame. It measures, Frame 24.75 inches x 20.5 inches, tapestry 21 inches x 17 inches. It measures 24 x 36 ins. approx. is marked Made in France( faded stamp but there) at the back. The center focus is a group of elegant company. Three women, one man and one soldier standing and telling a tale. They all appear to be sitting in a garden of a mansion in the distance. What’s up for Auction: Here I have 2 neat tiny moccasins made by Cherokee Indians in North Carolina. The large one came with the tag. I do not know where the smaller one was made. The colors and detailed patterns of the tapestry tops are wonderful and the bottoms are of fine woven leather. The inside of the large one is fully lined in a silk like material, the workmanship of this one is fantastic and is nicer than the other. The smaller one is lined in cardboard. I loved these for their color and theme, but I believe they may have been(at least the smaller of the 2) pincushions as I have seen these that way. The larger one measures 4” long and 2 ¼” tall and the smaller is 3 ¼” long and 1 ½” tall. Royal Bayreuth Rose Tapestry Chocolate Set consisting of the chocolate pot and four demitasse cups and saucers. Blue stamp on all pieces shows that these were made after 1902 and before 1919 by this old company which began in 1794 and that they were made at the Teetau Bavaria(West Germany) plant. The pattern was made over pink and white roses by pressing fabric against the damp surface of the porcelain. All pieces are in excellent condition. No nicks or chips. Color is in good condition and the gold trim is in good condition. The pot is 8 1/2" tall to the top of the finial and 4 1/2" in Diameter at widest point. The demitasse cups are 3 1/8" Tall and 2 1/4" in diameter at top. Each holds 4 oz. The saucers are 4 1/2" in diameter and do not have an indent. This set was given as a wedding present in 1911 according to ... morenote in pot. Antique paisley woven tapestry fabric, Civil War reference note attached!
This is such gorgeous fabric which measures 34" by 33" It was in with a great lot of vintage fabric I acquired years ago. It is a rich woven fabric with a lovely texture. You can see the note I found folded in with the fabric in my pic# 6. The note makes reference to'suitable for framing' Which I didn't understand at first, but the woven texture is more like coverlet fabric or tapestry fabric, than, say a lighter weight paisley fabric that one might use for shawls, etc. You could make this into a wrap or shawl, but it would certainly be suitable for a wall hanging, too. In the bottom corner there is a tear that you can see. Would be easy to mend if you wanted to. Other than a couple of other very slight thinning spots that I had to look carefully to find, and a bit of lingering moth ball aroma, it's in great condition! ... moreMUCH finer than shown! This was done by hand and its not reproduction or machine made designs. 74x52 inches. Its a weaved fabric which is black and gold mixed, with roles of hand embroidered birds, cats and designs. The ends have a black half inch fringe. I am not an expert on Native American arts so I do not know which tribe made this. This is not new and it does have some age.

French vintage embroidery and tapestry tool in original box
08511: This small antique French embroidery tool was made by the'L'abeille" company- a French company which was awarded a medal of honor. The instructions(in French) are entitled"Express- Embroidery& Tapestry" and explain how to use the tool for a punch style of embroidery. The set comes in a satin-lined box and was originally purchased in Nice-Vichy from a jeweler. G. Bouchet, which indicates that this was likely a fairly costly item when purchased. The handle of the tool is in a pink celluloid or bakelite and is hollow. Included in the set are three hollow brass needles of different sizes- one currently on the tool and two additional needles. The instructions explain that the wool or silk yarn should be threaded through the hollow handle and through the needle to prepare the set for use. The tool measures 4.75" ... morelong and the box measures 6" long. The box is in good condition. But no longer stays closed. The Rug is 69.5 inches x 45 inches. This Rug really is charming and very pretty. Perfect to complete a room, or perhaps to match that antique chabby chic look you want. Trust me, if this matched our living room colours, it would be sitting on the floor right now! Despite it's age. The rug remains in remarkable condition with little serious wear. ANTIQUE-Mid 19th Century Tapestry/Petit Point/Gros Point Needlepoint, in frame
This auction is for a rare mid 19th century petit point/ gros point(needlepoint) tapestry depicting five maidens in a landscape scene. It is in very good condition with minor blemishes. See photo of back of the piece. The frame is somewhat ornate as it is"pierced" with a layer behind the openings where you can see a red velvet fabric. The fabric looks good except for some pulling together so it does not completely fill the holes(piercings in the frame) Look closely at the frame details in photo 4. The workmanship is very good and holds up beautifully.amazing for its apparent age. The outside frame dimensions are 33 1/2" wide x 39 1/2" high with the tapestry at 25" wide x 30" high.large and very impressive. The tapestry was designed and woven by Elizabeth Ziqubu and is titled"The Girl Run to the Bus to Escape Marrige(sic) There is no date but the center has been in operation for about 50 years. The weaving measures about 65" by 31" and is in good condition. There is some light spotting on the yellow border on the back. We have had the piece in our collection for about 6 years and it has been kept in a drawer but since we acquired it at an off site estate sale we don't know how it was stored or displayed before that time. We can't detect any odor but. As with all old fabrics, it may need some cleaning or airing out.
