So if you are knowledgeable perhaps you can look through these photos and help us determine ... morewhen. And specifically what style this tapestry is. I have read a lot online, and still find it difficult to assess how old and from where this originates. I can tell you that we purchased it from an Estate Sale in Chandler, Arizona and the family was rich with items dating back to the late 1800s and many photos from that period in Virginia. From what little I know. It appears to be a French Tapestry, possibly Flemish style? Please feel free to comment on what you think. Other specifics I can relay are that the actual tapestry measures 12" by 19" with an extra inch added for the gold painted wooden frame on each side. The back of the frame has a paper covering which is slightly coming off. Consequently I thought that I would take a few photos of what's under the paper in the hopes it might help figure out more about this beautiful piece of art. It is obviously vintage by the look and feel of the wood. Paper, and discoloration over time of the materials used, which only adds to the rich quality of the aesthetic. in my opinion. Hi There- This is a gorgeous tapestry. Being fairly large at approx. 29 1/2 inches long, and about 22 inches wide. The detail is incredible, it is soft and I think it is Alpaca, but I'm not 100% it's surely some kind of wool. Again, it's pretty soft and the detailed features of the people really show well. It would look great framed, or hung as is. It really would NOT be good for a blanket, but could also be laid over the bed or couch as extra decoration. There are no loose threads. I was told it is from late 20s or early 30s. I think it is a tapestry of the Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto Japan, stapled to a wood base without a frame. On the bottom right hand side is written into the tapestry. KYOTO. KIYOMIZU. It measures about 14" X 12" a little more because of the material folded by staples. Divine antique French treasures& belle brocante from beyond the gates of Le Petit Chateau. SUPERB Lge. ANTIQUE FRENCH TAPESTRY CHATEAU CURTAINS& PASSEMENTERIE c1880 Please scroll down for more pictures. This is a magnificent pair of antique French chateau curtains that date from the 1880s. They are a superb heavyweight weave of wool and linen with quite a lot of gold wirework thread within the weave that catches the light beautifully. The background is strong rich black whilst the design is woven in rich buffs. Burgundy, aqua green, russet and pale blue with the gold wire thread adding a regal touch. The design carries scrolled and curled foliage with beautiful blooms. Berries and wild fruits. The curtains are lined with light coloured cotton which is all intact but a little marked commensurate with age and use. The tapestry weave ... moreis all in wonderful condition with just a little rubbing along the bottom edge where they have hung. There are no holes or repairs and the textile is a heavyweight weave but still fluid that allows the curtains to fall and billow beautifully. Each curtain measures: Length 8 feet 4" 254cms) Width 4 feet 2" 127cms) There is curtain tape added along each curtain top edge making them ready to hang. The original passementerie trim runs along each long inner side and across the bottom edges. It is worn in places commensurate with age and there are some missing bobbles but it does not detract. There are a couple of places where it needs to be re-attached. A superb pair of genuine period drapes perfect for any vieille maison- heavyweight and would certainly keep out the Winter cold. Antique Velvet Woven Table Dresser / Buffet Runner / Scarf Tapestry : Floral
This is a wonderful unique antique oval table runner/dresser scarf. It is 24.5" long and 12" wide. It has a beautiful shimmer to it with rich warm colors in the orange/peach family. The table runner/dresser scarf has beautiful red. Pink, blue and green flowers around the edges with some recessed stitching to add contrast. To be honest I do not know what the fabric is. I have heard wool and velvet. There are some signs of use such as rings in the center and one small one to the side. I am sure they would come out if cleaned by a professional. Overall the piece is in great condition. No holes. Comes from a pet& smoke free home.
