This stove top ornament originated from a stove first cast around 1867 in Dowagiac MI. The heaters were used by the Michigan Central Railroad for it's depots between Detroit and Chicago. The origin of the name Round Oak is unknown. The first theory is that the stoves were round and could hold a section of whole round oak tree in the firepot.

old Wind Up Kitchen Timer for Wood Burning Range / Stove
Until someone proves different I'm calling this a rare accessory kitchen timer for an old wood burning range. I believe it would attach to back of stove and the shape is to allow for the top surface of stove to clear. It's 22" tall and weighs 5-1/2 pounds. Cast iron, and finished with white porcelain with just one small chip in the white. 60 minute wind up timer is made by LUX Clock Co. in Waterbury CT and works perfectly. Bell rings for several seconds when time expires. My kids will recall this being used for the"time out" timer when they were little with that bell being a very welcome sound! There is also a hole with a set screw at the top that may have allowed an ornament or finial of some kind to be added. I'm sure there was more to this originally. It is approximately 10.5"x10.5" and 5" tall. No breaks or repairs in the cast-iron. It weighs a bit over 5 pounds. It would make a nice decorative piece for an imaginative person. It has a nice figural industrial. Steam punk look. Kind of victorian. I have not found any markings on it that identify its manufacturer. If you recognize this please tell me what it is exactly. i assume it was for camping or cooking use of some sort. This parlor stove dates to late 1800's or early 1900's. It stands over 5' tall. And weighs around 275 lbs, as best I can guess) The pictures speak for themselves. Good looking stove with some issues. I would call this item a"tweener" It looks great as is, but could be restored which would increase it's value. I like"tweeners" because not everyone wants to spend $2500.00 to decorate a house. And with this piece, the nickle plate is the nickel plate from when the store was made. So, it has some rust? It's 100 years old! Now. The issues: In the pictures you can see one side panel where the nickel plated ... moreapron would attach is broken. The piece of cast is gone. The apron will no longer attach to that side. One piece of apron is gone. The glass on the stove door is gone. And someone put a piece of plastic in it's place, and spray painted it black. Other parts of the stove have been spray painted. Antique Dollhouse Miniature Laundry Stove c. 1910
This little stove would have had lots of uses in Little Miss's dollhouse back in 1910. She could have used it to heat water for a laundry or bath tub. Or, if she had a nanny for her doll children, the nanny could have used it in the nursery to heat bottles and middle of the night snacks. Sometimes, an Edwardian home would have had a small upstairs kitchen for the master of the house to heat cocoa at night or make coffee in the morning. One did not appear downstairs EVER without being fully dressed so that would have been handy. Finally, when the American steel magnates began producing cheap steel, apartment buildings began to spring up and little stoves like this would have been just the thing for your new apartment. Anyway, it is cute and useful. It measures 2 3/4 inches long x 1/2 inch tall. It is made of soft white metal and then painted ... morewith black and red detail. It is marked"Germany" on the bottom. Up for auction is a very old Optimus Campingo. The box is still in its original paint.I believe the pump rod to be replaced. In excellent working condition. Outside shows surface rust all over. ANTIQUE CAST IRON STOVE LID DOUBLE-END LIFTER This old cast iron stove lid lifter would have been used to pick up the hot burner lids on a wood or coal stove. The other end could have shifted a pot on the stove or the grate in the stove. Long ago. This double-ended tool would have been as important as today's remote controls-and woe to anyone who misplaced it! This lid lifter has the number 9 impressed in one end-no other markings. The lifter is 8.5 inches long. The lifter end tapers to 1/2 inch and the larger end is 1 inch wide. Some very slight surface rust and some spots of white paint. No cracks in the iron.
