The backside has two thin oak strips held in place with screws which keep the panel in place. The top of the screen frame has a nice cutout design which also serves as a carrying handle. Antique early 1900's CANED TOP STOOL by The ELGIN A. SIMONDS FURNITURE COMPANY The stool measures 18" WIDE X 14 1/2" DEEP X 19 1/2" TALL. The stool is in pretty good condition considering it's age. It is very solid and sturdy with some scratches on the wood and stain as can be expected and seen in the photos. There are a couple of small missing pieces of caning that can also be seen clearly in the photos. Elgin A. Simonds was a partner of Gustav Stickley. Stickleys industrious nature led him and his brothers Charles and Albert to form Stickley Brothers& Company in 1883. The same year in which he married Eda Ann Simmons. ROOKWOOD ART POTTERY VASE, 1926. Stickley, Mission Period, Arts and Crafts
You are viewing a great example of Art Pottery from the famous Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati. Ohio founded in the 1880's. Rookwood employed a large staff of artists, mostly women, to hand decorate the pottery before each piece was fired in the kilns. One of the most famous of these was Sally(Sarah) Coyne. This is one of her best pieces and is personally signed(SEC" monogram) on the bottom by her in 1926(XXVI) Also on the bottom are the'flame' shop mark and style number Rookwood. The little'flame' shop mark has an interesting background: a flame was added each year until 1900 when 14 flames were reached and thereafter roman numerals were used for the year of production. Rookwood Pottery is exhibited at many world class museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Coyne painted realistic ... morescenes as well as'free form' art designs as in this example. This example on offer is one of the large ones: 9 1/8 inches tall and 3 3/4 inches at the widest part. The color combinations chosen by Coyne were hard to photograph. I would say the pixs are slightly overexposed. It looks spectacular in dimmed evening lighting! I have included both flash and no flash pictures. Note only the vase is on offer in this auction. other items are incidental and not for sale. The vase is in excellent condition with on some minor flakes on the bottom likely caused during the final base grinding operation performed on all pottery to make them lay flat on a table. There are no hairlines or cracks an the vase passes the" ping" test(flicking a finger at the top part) and the resulting high pitched sound is there. If there was a line, the sound would be a dull sound. This is a wonderful piece to enhance any collection. All offers will be respectfully considered. You are bidding on an original Gustav Stickley Tabouret table made between the years 1907 and 1912. It measures 20 inches tall and the top is 18 inches across. There is an old time darkened label on the underside of the top that is Gustave Stickley's Craftsman Workshops Paper Label used between the years of 1907-1912. The label measures 3 by 4.75 inches and matches exactly the right size of those Craftsman labels. Even though the label is quite time darkened when you shine a bright light on it you can see the woodworkers clamp in the center of the label and the word"CRAFTSMAN" just below it. One of my close up photos shows the edge of the top with the typical shape to the joint used by G.Stickley at that period. It retains it's original height and width with no alterations. Made from Bullock's wool in India for Gustav Stickley in the early 1900's. Done in bright rich colors, designed to be reversable. The oak is dark and solid. In the frame is a damaged print with original vintage glass. The outer dimensions of the frame measure 15 ½” wide by 12 ½” tall. Visible art area measures 11 ½” wide by 8 ½” tall. The oak is roughly 2” wide, and in wonderful original, untouched condition. The wood had a few minor scuffs, a tape mark, no other issues. The print is damaged from a pest who ate its way through the assembly. The glass is old and has a typical bubbly texture. The original owner, Olive Burnett, wrote a sentimental statement on the back, noting the origins of this art to her childhood home. EARLY LIMBERT 2 DOOR BOOKCASE Orig Finish MISSION OAK arts & crafts Stickley
Charles Limbert 2-door quartersawn oak bookcase. Signed w/ early Grand Rapids paper label.dates to 1906 or earlier. Excellent condition. Original medium dark finish. Features slab sides, two mullioned doors and a framed gallery top. Nice quartersawn oak(shelves are plainsawn/ rift) Brass hardware. New wood caster wheels. The pins are intact. Supporting three adjustable shelves. Wavy glass. Paper label and ink-stamped production number are on the back. There is a push button knob on the right door. And a clever roller latch/ throw bolt system at the top/bottom of both doors. When the right door is opened, the left is simultaneously released. When the right door is shut it forces the throw bolts on the left door to extend into the wood frame at the top and bottom, securing both doors shut. Size: 31.5" wide. 11.25" deep, 47.5" ... moretall on casters. Model 340. Most examples of this form I've seen are 34" wide, this one is 31.5" Great size for fitting in many spots within the home. You are viewing a very interesting Arts and Crafts style tile. It has the classic matte green American Arts and Crafts Movement glaze finish. The very subtle and sublime design is of a botanical/floral nature. The tile has been placed in a newly custom built quarter sawn white oak frame which has been given an old fashioned shellac with wax finish. I cannot be sure of the age. the back of the tile looks very fresh but this is not necessarily a reason to dismiss the fact that it was made during the American Arts and Crafts period(1890-1915) Also sometimes know as the Mission or Stickley era. This is a nice early 1900's Arts& Crafts lamp base made of oak with original old finish. It takes a square shade with a 12" x 12" fitter end. Lamp overall measures 17" high.
