Fantastic and striking. This Satsuma vase has everything going for it; a Japanese man and woman in traditional dress and a beautifully rendered tree. The Moriage is of gold, white, red, and green and it adds a wonderful dimension to the piece. The vase measures 7.5" high by 5.5" in diameter. The piece is in excellent overall condition, with no chips, cracks, hairlines, fleabites or repairs. All of the Moriage appears to be intact. The gold lustre/luster around the woman seems a bit thin, but that obviously occured during production. It is marked on the bottom with a back stamp of Japanese characters in red that I cannot identify. White spots, if any, are camera glare. Successful buyer is responsible for shipping and insurance and payment must be received within ten(10) business days of the close of the auction or the sale may be ... morevoided. Classic Japanese Satsuma Moriage 14 inch Vase with 3-D Kannon
This 14 inch vase is probably one of the few Satsuma vases which escaped being drilled and turned into a lamp. It is a vase. Probably dates from the 20's to 30's; although it could have been made in the 50's. The vase is a classic Satsuma moriage. There is also a 3-D element. There is an applied Kannon standing about 1/2-inch proud of the surface. There are also mountains and one tree that are applied. The other figures are painted and moriaged in the classic style. At the top of the vase are 2 gold crosses in circles. There is a signature on the base. But most of the signature has been worn off. The first character may be the character for"gold" The vase is in very good condition. It is 14" tall and 8" in diameter. Some of the gilding has been worn both at the top and on some of the 3-d surfaces. The rest ... moreof the colors and appliques are bright and unmarred.

Important & Rare Antique Japanese Satsuma Vase, Edo Period, c. 1840-60, Signed
This superb Satsuma vase dates from Japan's late Edo Period. Circa 1840-1860. Satsuma wares from this period are becoming much rarer than the more commonly seen pieces from the Meiji Period. This example, featuring floral decoration around the entire body of the work, is one of the finest pieces of late Edo Satsuma that I have ever owned, and is masterfully done in every respect. The vase measures 7 1/4 inches high. 5 inches at its widest point, 3 3/4 inches at its mouth, and 3 1/4 inches at its base. The vase is boldly signed on the side of the piece(see photo 2) Amazingly. The vase is completely free of chips, cracks or repairs of any kind. The decoration, including the gilding, is still in fine condition, with no losses or problems. We are offering this exceptional example of Edo Period Japanese Satsuma with a very low opening bid ... moreand with no reserve. In the expectation that it will achieve its appropriate value.

Fake Satsuma Ginger Jar for Educational or Comparison Purposes Affordable
Let's call this what it i s: This is a really good fake. Other people are trying to pass this same"Japanese" Ginger Jar as authentic. But it is not. I was going to t hrow it away in disgust. But then I figured that perhaps some collector. Educator, or institution could use this as a teaching tool. It is actually a nice l ooking piece and perhaps someone would use it. Essentially the Satsuma brand is highly collect able. And a company in China decided to reproduce it. C ollectors like me have been getting taken ever s ince. We know it is fake because Satsuma in this era did not print in English. And they have never been made in China. I will ship this with the same care as I would with an original. In essence you are paying $3.00 for the piece and $7.00 for the shipping. Ten dollar investment for a nice piece that could help ... moreother collectors not get taken. Has zero value as a collector item. Can't say I am not honest about my products! Japanese Kutani Satsuma Hotei Statue - 15 inches Tall
Hotei is the god of contentment and happiness. He has a cheerful face and a big belly. He is supposedly the only member of the seven based on an actual person, and he is also probably the most widely recognized outside of Japan. He carries a large bag over his back, one that never empties, for he uses it to feed the poor and needy. He also holds a fan called an oogi(said to be a"wish giving" fan- in the distant past. This type of fan was used by the aristocracy to indicate to vassals that their requests would be granted) Hotei is based on an eccentric Chinese Zen beggar priest. Said to be an incarnation of the Bodhisattva Miroku(Maitreya in Sanskrit; also known as Buddha of the Future) In China, he is referred to as Me Li Fa, Budai or Putai. In recent times. Hotei is also referred to as the patron saint of restaurateurs and bartenders. ... moreWhen one over eats and over drinks, one may sometimes jokingly attribute it to Hotei's influence. This beautiful kutani Hotei is in the Satsuma moriage style. His robe is decorated with roundels and flowers and the pattern continues onto his sack. He holds a brown staff with a the sack of good fortune on his shoulder and a decorated fan with a fly wisk on top in the other hand. He stands a little over 15 inches tall. It is signed on the base. There is the Kutani characters and the characters for the artist(it appears that the signature is duplicated, probably placed on something and repositioned) This piece is in excellent condition. Very clean, suggesting that it was probably made about 1965. There is some paint wear on the bottom of the fan and a few small rubbings on the roundel on right shoulder. But this piece is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. 11

3 Antique Miniature Japanese Kutani Tsukuru or Satsuma ? Vases, Elders, Birds
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ ALL OF THE DESCRIPTION AND TERMS* Three Antique Kutani Tsukuru or Satsuma Miniature Vases Up for your consideration are these really sweet miniature Japanese vases. First is a really sweet signed miniature Japanese vase with a classic vase shape with a bulbous bottom and slender neck. This is 3 3/4" tall. Has a red background with panels of white decorated with floral motifs on the top and the two rounded panels at the base have one floral with sparrows and the other has a scene with three japanese figures, two seated and one standing, tea on the table. There is an amazing amount of gold detail to the clothes background and leaves. All hand painted and very detailed, this piece is signed on the bottom and after research, I have found the characters to mean"Kutani Tsukuru" or"Zo" which is the ... morelocation, I think. There is a thin crack that goes from the rim down half through the side of one of the upper panels.there is a small chip at the top of the crack at the inside rim. It does not take away from the beauty of this piece. The bottom is slightly raised or round footed. Primary colors are a dark red, gold, white, and grey/black. The next one is also signed with Japanese characters on the bottom but I cannot make them out with research online. Same color content but has decorations of flowers and birds in three panels. Two small rim slivers off the lip and there are a couple areas where the pottery has a small raised area which are painted. Measures about 3 1/4" tall. The last one is not signed, has the largest width but is still 3 1/4" tall, has multiple shaped panels in fan, circle, flower, heart forms with flowers and butterflies. No chips or cracks on this one. Sold As Is. I will combine shipping! Please ask questions if you have concerns about the information I am giving.I am always open to hearing from people who can educate me further. Thank you for looking! I am selling all my items AS IS. Christie's South Kensington, Satsuma, 15 June 1993
I am putting up a selection of Christie’s and Sotheby’s Japanese Art catalogues. They are part of a large collection I am clearing out of my library. They are all in Very Good condition. With some of the covers showing minor shelf-wear. They range in date from the early eighties to the start of the 21st century. Almost all of them have their‘Prices Realised’ lists. You can see in the photograph whether this is true or not. You can assume that if the Prist List is not showing in the main photograph. Then it is not included. I am now adding the extra possibility of sending one catalogue at a time as a letter. The maximum size of a letter with PostNL is 380mm X 265mm X 32 mm. The price to send one catalogue(registered and insured to the maximum of 50 Euros) in a Padded(bubble-wrap) envelope. If it is below 2kg, is as follows: Within the Netherlands: ... more7.50 Euros. Europe: 9.50 Euros. Worldwide: 16.00 Euros(this equates to $21) In future I will be quoting this as the postal price. Except in the case of the Volume weighing more than 2kg. If extra padding, making a larger package necessary, or if further insurance is needed(for more valuable items) then the price of $35 will be applicable(In accordance with PostNL rates for larger packages) I am including the PostNL rates to clarify that I do not charge extra for packing and postage. It generally costs 25.60 Euros(about $35) to send one volume as a package(as opposed to a letter. That is with more wrapping and encased in cardboard) but if a number are combined, and the weight stays below two kilos, then the price remains the same. PostNL charges 35.60 Euros(about $45) for weights between 2 and 5 kg, so that if more are purchased, the price of sending per item goes down considerably. I always use 1 st class registered(and insured) post. Combining catalogues in a package will continue to reduce the price of sending per individual unit.

Vintage Antique Pair Satsuma Japanese Vases Oriental 7.5 inches
Here is a great pair of true vintage Satsuma vases. They have the trademark circle and cross markings. These measure 7.5 inches tall. Beautiful colors. Much prettier in person. The scene depicts two emperors. I'm not sure of the age but I know these are very old. From the markings I think they are from the early 1900's, but I can't be positive. These were given to my aunt by my great uncle as a wedding gift. I took a close up picture of a mark in the pottery that happened when the vase was made. There are some minor surface scratches(see pictures) in the paint in a couple places but nothing major. No knicks or crackes. The bottoms are a little rough feeling when you rub your hand over it, from normal use and wear. Otherwise in excellent condition!

Yabu Meizan. The masterpiece is hand decorated with ... moreThousands of tiny Butterflies to the interior. Each butterfly features a variety of colours and patterns, done using both coloured enamels and raised white enamel. The butterflies are each outlined in gold, including their bodies and wings. This shows the tremendous skill of theYabu Meizan studio, as similar artists only coloured their butterflies in single colour tones and certainly did not outline each single butterfly with gold. The exterior is decorated with Millefleurs or Thousand flower patterning. The flowers are painted to overlap one another. Not revealing a single area of the undercoat. The flowers are all native Japanese, and are painted with a variety of coloured enamels, including raised enamels and then patterned on top with gilt and other colour tones. The detail of the decoration is absolutely remarkable. Clearly emphasising why Yabu Meizan is regarded as the best artist of Japanese porcelain in history.
