Hand painted polychrome enamels depict wise philosophers and sages in brocaded kimonos, young children serving trays of dainty sweets, musicians playing flutes, and Samurai dressed in elegant attire, all surrounded by highly intricate scenery and interiors. The detail work is full of surprises, from minute incense censers, to tiny scrolls, patterned draperies, and latticed bamboo windows. Too much to list, see photos for all of the wonderful detail. The vase is further highlighted by vibrant hand gilding. This imaginative piece of 1800's Satsuma ware is absolutely delightful. In excellent antique condition with just some wear to the gilding commensurate with age. Dates to the early Meiji Period, circa 1875. Of diminutive size, measuring approximately 2 5/8" high and 2 3/8" across. A magnificent example of 130 year old Japanese ceramic ware. $69.57 Shipping Location: Germany Here we are offering a PAIR of Satsuma Vase depicting the Geisha. The Japanese epitome of beauty and grace. The Geisha is found here sitting in the Garden ... morebeing pampered by her attendant. This is a stoneware piece produced in Japan during the 1920-1930's. Satsuma Style Art was extremely popular in the US at this time because of it's intricate detailing and it's romanticism. The central image of this piece, the Geisha, wears a Kimono that is decorated in the typical Satsuma Style of finely detailed spaces which gave texture and depth to the image behind the Geisha. This vase is marked. The double handles are in the shape of WINGS. The enameling is done in an array of warm natural colors, like burnt sienna, Raw Umber and ochre with a splash of blue, simulating the water. The back of the vase is decorated with large stylized flowers. Moriage details in Gold and colored enamels accents the vase through out. The vase measures approximately 10"tall and 4 1/2" diameter. This vase is in EXCELLENT CONDITION, having no chips or cracks and has the characteristic crazing. There is some loss of the Gilding on the front and handles. One of the vase has a factory flaw where some glazing was missed and than touched up afterwards. Please look at the pictures carefully as these are part of my description and please, ask any questions prior to placing a bid.
