On one side, two figures present gifts to an imperial lady with a fan and a stunning kimono, perhaps the Empress. On the other, three gentleman sit in the tranquil garden, one holding a white feather, and another with a large vase-like object wrapped in cloth, perhaps a precious piece of Satsuma pottery. Exquisite, intricately rendered brocades in multiple patterns surround the reserves in designs known as Shippo(seven precious things) Seikainami(sea waves) Karakusu(arabesques) and many more. Great attention to detail. Finished with elaborate gilding which highlights the intricate images and lovely patterning. A truly handsome and refined piece. In excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks, just some gentle wear to the gilding commensurate with age. This tasteful piece measures approximately 7 3/8" high. This is a ceramic satsuma style Buddha inscribed below" made in Japan" The colouration of the face is most unusual and at first I thought it was nicotine staining! However it is not and the colour appears part of the original glaze process. Making it the most unusual satsuma figure I have seen and therefore worthy of inclusion in a collection He is 10 cms high and 8 cms wide and slightly heavier and older than the earlier offering. I am downsizing my collection of Buddhas. Which I have obtained from around the world over many years, when export of antiquarian items was still freely allowed.Unfortunately this is no longer easily possible. The Censer is one of the finest examples I have seen and I am told would date to the Japanese Meiji Period. The Vase is exquisitely Hand Enameled with Japanese Period Floral Scenic designs around. Done in rich and vibrant enamel colors. The Vase is of a unique design featuring great Double Gourd side handles and is richly Gold Gilded throughout. The Censer is also signed which I am sure makes it an even more desirable find and being of such fine quality it is certainly worth looking into further. The Censor shows some cracking and is missing the lid, but I am sure it could be restored. I am also sure a Wood or Silver lid could be found or made to fit it nicely. The Censor displays beautifully measuring 5-1/4 inches tall by 7 inches wide. Overall just a very fine and interesting example for restoration or for use as a study piece. Antique Satsuma Japanese Lamp 2 Sockets Electric Table Moriage Brass Cap
This auction is one of three Satsuma lamps we currently have listed. Two sockets with pull chains. No finial. Total height is 27" tall. The pottery is about 15" tall. Wiring looks fine, and it is in working condition. We see a couple chips at the top edge, but we are not taking it apart so we can not check the rest of the top or bottom, so as is as found on those areas- no returns for hidden damage if there is any. The fitted brass cap at the top is a nice touch! The pottery has general all over crazing and some wear. Please take the time to read all information below.
