WONDERFUL JAPANESE ANTIQUE SATSUMA VASE Exceptionally Charming Minute Hand Painted Images Of all the fine Japanese Satsuma that we have ever listed. This ... morehas got to be one of our favorites! The imagery is so full of life and joy. Colorful scenes adorn every side of this utterly charming little vase. Hand painted polychrome enamels depict wise philosophers and sages in brocaded kimonos, young children serving trays of dainty sweets, musicians playing flutes, and Samurai dressed in elegant attire, all surrounded by highly intricate scenery and interiors. The detail work is full of surprises, from minute incense censers, to tiny scrolls, patterned draperies, and latticed bamboo windows. Too much to list, see photos for all of the wonderful detail. The vase is further highlighted by vibrant hand gilding. This imaginative piece of 1800's Satsuma ware is absolutely delightful. In excellent antique condition with just some wear to the gilding commensurate with age. Dates to the early Meiji Period, circa 1875. Of diminutive size, measuring approximately 2 5/8" high and 2 3/8" across. A magnificent example of 130 year old Japanese ceramic ware. Would make an exquisite centerpiece in any fine Asian antique collection. See all 12 photos above. Be sure to scroll down to second row of images to see all the details. Japanese MEIJI SATSUMA PORCELAIN Tiny Rooster BUTTON
Tiny Japanese MEIJI SATSUMA PORCELAIN Rooster button. This is such a small button. Only Approximately 5/8" Smaller than a dime. The rooster is very detailed and well done. It's like a tiny work of art. The rooster is red with black tail feathers. Gold outlines the whole rooster and depicts the feathers and the beak. The rooster is important in the Japanese culture. Parts of it are believed to exemplify courage and reliability. They are sacred and allowed to roam freely. Even into the temples. The morning calls are believed to call to the Goddess Amaterasu. So this button, even with its small size is important. The button itself is outlined in gold. The background is the typical ivory glaze of the Satsuma button. The back of the button is raised with a hole in it for the shank. Beautiful button in such perfect condition it is difficult ... moreto believe it is as old as it is. This button and several others I will be listing were made in Japan during what is known as the Meiji Period, which was between September 1868 through July 1912. This period represents the period in Japan in which Japanese society moved into its modern form. Satsuma is an earthenware pottery that is usually covered in a oft ivory colored, glaze with elaborate polychrome and gold decorations. It became popular in Europe after display at the international exhibition in Paris in 1867. Please use the pictures as part of the description. I WISH TO SEND THESE BUTTONS OUT IN THE SMALL FLAT RATE BOXES IN ORDER TO USE PLENTY OF PADDING. I AM SURE I COULD SEND THEM FOR LESS, BUT I WANT THEM TO BE VERY SAFE. THEY ARE QUITE OLD AND I FEEL IRREPLACEABLE. If you are an international buyer and win the auction. Please wait for an invoice to pay. Your shipping charges will naturally by higher. Antique Japanese Satsuma Dresser Box - hand decorated with Flowers and Gold leaf
This stunning Satsuma large dresser box was made in 1925 and has the impressed Japan stamp on the bottom. It measures 6 1/4"s diameter and is 3.5"s deep. It is intricately handpainted in shades of blue violet and pink flowers with gold leaf accent. There are no chips. Cracks, or hairlines and the only flaw is some age discoloration on the inside bottom of box. It displays beautifully and could hold some precious things for you on the top of your dresser. Because it was so unusual. I did a little digging and found that these boxes, as blanks, were imported from Japan in the 20's and handpainted here. It was a"fad" of the time, much like limoges plate blanks were imported by Picard, to be handpainted in the U.S. Definitely one of a kind antique dresser box, which could make a stunning display in your bedroom, or anywhere ... moreyou chose to locate it.

Appraised By: Valerie Hammond Appraiser Comments: This is a glorious piece of late 19th century Satsuma( c 1880) We can see the transition here to Meiji period decoration in the fact that the background colour is rich cobalt blue. Earlier centuries were very pale. Creams, buff, off white. backgrounds. This does not appear to be a censer. There are no holes in the lid, or at least the images show the medallions to be painted blue. A censer must have holes to allow the smoke to rise. It is more likely( due to its size also) a ginger jar, or spice jar. If the medallions are actually open, then this would have been for commercial or ceremonial use, not domestic. It would hold more incense than a domestic setting would bear. The panels are just beautifully done, especially those with the landscapes. That is true artistry, and exceptio
