This bowl was purchased by me right out of the family who's father had brought it back sometime in the 1920's-30's. The Nazca culture was located on the Southern coast of Peru from 1-700AD. This bowl most likely dates from 300-600AD. I only cleaned the bowl using a damp cloth. All the pieces I purchased from the family were dirty and still in the original box the father had stored them in. The bowl measures 3" high by 5 5/8" diameter. From my personal collection I am offering this lovely late 18th c.early 19th c large Red ware jug.found in Connecticut.I was told to be made in Connecticut. This auction is for a rare piece of Lester Breininger redware commemorating his 25th annual porch show in Robesonia. PA in 1994. This was a limited edition piece. Breininger made redware in the tradition of the Pennsylvania Germans, and created pieces that are still on exhibit in the Smithsonian and The Art Museum of Chicago, to name a few locations featuring his beautiful folk pieces. He would hold an annual sale on the porch of his historic mansion in Robesonia, PA. This dish shows the mansion and the pottery building. The back is signed Breininger Pottery 1994 PA. The glaze is egg and spinach colored. The dish measures 3 3/4" long and 2 3/4" wide with a coggled rim. It is in very fine condition, and a real treasure for collectors of his pieces, as the pottery has closed since his death. The last 42 Annual Porch Show was held ... morein 2011. Here is a wonderful hand made~wheel thrown redware pottery plate showing a simple folk art bird.perfectly painted off center! The front side of the plate has a glossy glaze finish up to the neat looking coggled rim. The red clay on the bottom is exposed. Not glazed, and is embossed"G. Wolff" and hand drawn in the clay the numbers"94" The plate measures 9 1/4" diameter and is 1" deep. The plate is in very good condition, no chips or cracks. If you look closely, there is a small nick or glaze pop on the birds wing-center stroke and the glazed finish has a light textured feel, the way it was brushed on. May have very light crazing. This is a beautiful sgraffito decorated egg having typical Pennsylvania Dutch coloring. Of yellow, brown and green splotches. The piece has a sgraffito design of a flower with leaves surrounding it. The flower's outline is brown on a yellow background and the leaves are highlighted with green coloring(copper oxide) The side of the egg has a sgraffito scalloping while the bottom is glazed with a brown background coloring. HUGE Antique Late 19th C Redware Lard Pot Crock w/ Interior Lead Glaze
You are viewing a HUGE antique redware folk pottery lard pot/crock that dates to the late 1800's/ early 1900's and was likely pottered in the Northeastern US. This utilitarian piece is unglazed on the exterior and has a clear lead glaze applied to the interior. Pots/crocks of this ilk were used for storing anything from lard to apple butter to molasses. This large example stands approximately 12" tall. The diameter of the outside of the rolled rim measures approximately 11" 12" as it is slightly lopsided. The base measures approximately 8 1/2" in diameter. There is a thin. Incised band that runs around the upper portion of the body. This antique redware lard pot is in excellent condition. Foltz Glazed Redware Vase Cobalt Blue & White Mottled Color Handles Ruffled Top
1977 Glazed Redware Vase Cobalt Blue and White Mottled Color Two Handles and Ruffled Top by Ned Foltz For your Foltz Redware Collection Details Description: This is a beautiful vase with two handles and a ruffled rim made by Ned Foltz. The vase has a round flat base having outwards slightly curved sides rising to the center then curving inwards to a neck. The neck then flares outwards again and ends at a ruffled plain rim. It has two applied handles which reach from the center to the neck of the vase. The vase is glazed inside and out and has a beautiful cobalt blue and white coloring reminiscent of metal agate ware typical in Pennsylvania Dutch kitchens. The coloring is the same both inside and out. The center of the vase has several incised lines going around the circumference of the base as does the neck. In between the two sets of lines ... morethere are incised flowers or pinwheels in a repeating pattern all along the circumference of the pot. Just a beautiful piece that is rather uncommon. Some of the red coloring of the redware is coming through the blue and white coloring of the vase giving it a very nice appearance. The bottom of the vase is unglazed and has the typical color of unglazed redware. The base is signed and dated by Ned Foltz. Just a beautiful and rather substantial piece of a nice size. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1977 Origin: Reinholds. Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Size: Measures ~4" diameter at the base. ~5" in diameter at the top, and ~5 1/4" high. The vase weighs almost 2 1/4 pounds. Maker: C. 1980 Redware Deep Round Bowl Manganese Glazed with Two Handles By Lester Breininger For your Redware or Breininger Ware Collection Details Description: Beautiful nice size deep glazed round bowl having two applied handles by Lester Breininger. The bowl has a round flat base which flares outwards with rounded sides proceeding to a shoulder and terminating in a flared plain rim. This redware bowl has a brown background color with black splotches indicative of manganese glazing. The black pattern in the glazing is known as tobacco spit. The bottom of the bowl is unglazed and shows the usual coloring of unglazed redware. It is signed and dated by the artist in cursive calligraphy on the bottom of the base. Distinguishing Characteristics- Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice bowl having classic shape and coloring. A great piece made by a master potter with the Pennsylvania Dutch heritage who passed away in December 2011. Condition: Bowl is in fair condition. The bowl has no cracks. Hairlines or repairs. However, it has four chips to the rim, which we show in the photos. It also has minor crazing to the glaze. Because of the condition issue we are selling this piece"AS IS" and at a low price.
