Here is a set of six blocks composed of four separate blocks and one group of 16 blocks hand pieced from small print florals and calicos generally from the 1960s and forward. There may be a few older prints. But not many. The prints are combined with muslin to complete the block. This is a Wheels pattern and is known as the Bow Tie Quilt. There are several variations in the layout of these blocks, so the maker will have some options for setting. Each individual block measures approximately 4 3/4" to 5" square. Quilt Blocks Applique Large Pink Flower Virginia Snow Studios Hand Quilting
Here is a set of 11 floral applique quilt blocks from Virginia Snow Studios. Pattern#240. All of the blocks have an appliqued pink flower bloom with French Knot centers in the center of the block. Each block measures approximately 17" square with some room for trimming when the stitching is complete. One block has been hand quilted with cotton batting and a muslin backing. Stitching is done in pink and green. These blocks are soiled. I have not tried to clean them. They are a light tan in color and probably should be more of a white color. Here is a set of four blocks in an Unequal Nine Patch with Large Center Square pattern. According to my encyclopedia this pattern is known as. A Plain Block- Ladies' Home Journal. 1896, Nine Patch- Ladies Art Company#83, Sheepfold Quilt- Kansas City Star 1931, Irish Chain- Shelburne(with alternate plain blocks) I believe the fabrics in these blocks are from the 1880- 1910 time period. Included are a black and white mourning print. A white background shirting with a small red geometric print and a stripe seersucker style fabric. The stripe fabric may have been originally been red and has faded to a salmon pink and a light brown. The solid fabric is a thin muslin. The blocks measure approximately 7" square and are machine stitched. They do have some age soiling as seen in the scans and one of the mourning print corners has a tear. ... moreI have not cleaned these blocks. A cold water soak would probably brighten them up. There is straight line quilting throughout at 4-5 stitches to the inch. The back and hand stitched 2" binding/border are the same wonderful red and white houndstooth fabric.
