Authentic Vintage Amish Quilt Top. Awesome.
This is a used vintage Amish quilt top. I picked these up from an elderly gentleman. He said that his wife purchased them back in the early 80's when they were traveling the Amish lands. She was always going to finish them but never did. So they have been in a drawer since then. This one is approximately 84" x 70" These tops are pictured folded in half because I have nowhere big enough in my home to unfold it completely to take a picture. This one is in very good condition. Very clean and bright. The only thing wrong is a missing section on one corner side. You can see in photo 11. No rips or tares that I can find. It is all hand stitched. Very nicely done. Sold as is. Antique Vintage COXCOMB PRINCESS FEATHER Quilt TOP 4-Panel 80"x72" c1875-90
This rare and exceptional Antique COXCOMB. PRINCESS FEATHER or THISTLE Quilt TOP is originally from Nebraska. Made in c.1865-75 it is beautifully Hand-Appliqued with very tiny stitches. Size: approx. 80 inches by 72 inches. There are 4 panels. Each gorgeous Appliqued panel of Coxcombs w/leaves and Feathers is approx 32 inches square. The red fabric is vibrant with no fading. The Feathers are 14" long by 5" wide. and this drab green fabric has no prominent faded areas. The off-white has an aged patina. Pix#7 shows the darkest water stained panel and border. This may lighten up considerably with a good soak. The fabric is definitely strong and sturdy. The 3-color borders are an inch wide and applied by machine as are the 4 panels joined by machine. Pix#11 shows a one inch V-shaped slit on a border and also some tiny age-spots on a ... morepanel. See the last pix for a close-up of the tiny stitches of the hand-applique work on the back. Oh well. more stuff for you, less stuff for me(and I have waaaaaaay too much stuff) I found this awhile ago and thought I would finish it. but I'm not going to. It's beautiful and it's time for it to come out of the closet and be seen. This quilt top is amazing. I can only go by what I have seen and read. These fabrics look ancient to me. They remind me of civil war fabrics. But, I'M NOT AN EXPERT IN FABRICS. If anyone has further information or an opinion as to the date of the fabrics, I will cheerfully accept the info and correct the listing. This 9-patch quilt has blues. Reds, pink and cream colors. Whoever made this was a good quilt maker. The 9-patch is alternated with a red and cream small print. It is entirely ... morehand stitched. The seams are all tight and the points match. The quilt measures approximately 72” by 84” I don't believe this quilt has been washed as most of the edges aren't frayed. It is crisp and nice. There are some light stains that may be removed by washing. But I'll leave that to the buyer. Beautiful Colorful Antique Yoyo Quilt, 1930’s Lap Quilt
I just love this beautiful old yoyo quilt. It would be so pretty draped over an old rocking chair. This quilt was made in the 1930’s out of old dress scraps, mostly nylon or rayon with a rose pink cotton backing. The quilt measures 50” X 52” and was originally made for a crib. All the work is hand done and has held up just fine. There are a couple of mend spots on the back where the knotted ties have pulled and 2 tiny holes also on the back. The top is fine with no broken yoyo’s. I have gently laundered this and so it is clean and smells fresh. The items that I sell are the items I love. Memories, antique and vintage. Antique C1880 Doll Quilt One Patch Design Red Black Calico Handstitched
This is an Antique C1880 Doll Quilt in a One Patch Design with Red and Black Calico Fabric. The entire doll quilt is handstitched and hand quilted. I love the cotton fabrics. The quilt measures 17 1/2" x 18 1/4" and each of the squares is approximately 1 3/4" square. There is some aging and light staining from age to the fabric here and there as you would expect. The black and white calico back also has some aging to the fabric. The binding has wear here and there. There are no holes. Rips or tears to the fabric. The quilting and stitching is fine and beautifully done and it is possible that a young girl made this doll quilt for her doll bed while practicing her sewing/stitching at the same time. And just lavished with lush dense hand-quilting, this delightful floral applique quilt features quirky, exotic-looking blooms on improbably long slender stems uncurling from little Nile green urns. The pattern is very rarely found, rare enough that Barbara Brackman's recently re-issued applique reference book categorizes it as"source not found" But google finally found me the source and it is indeed a Mountain Mist pattern. Number 41 and deceptively blandly titled Tulip Bowl. This vibrant version is far more lushly quilted and crisp looking than the few other rare instances I have been able to find from other sources. If you'd like to see the one early mention of the quilt I've been able to view in a print source, that is with ... moredeep gratitude to blogger Judy Laquidara for photographing the ad. The workmanship on this example is lovely and the quilting is particularly outstanding. Among the most charming quirks are the details around the base of the stems and the urn on each block. Plus the one kind of off-kilter block that looks like it's about to take flight. Circa 1930's. Size The quilt measures about 72 x 80 inches. The blocks are a grand 17 1/2 inches square. The stems scarcely over 1/4-inch wide and the sashing just 1-inch wide. Quilting The hand-quilting is outstanding. With 9-10 little stitches to the inch. Counting on the top side of the quilt only. The blocks are exquisitely echo-quilted around the applique with lines spaced a scant 1/2-inch apart. Sashing and borders are sweetly quilted in a freehand 1/2 to 3/4-inch square grid. And the grand partial setting blocks that give directly onto those wide lateral open borders have lovely four-leaf motifs and pretty strings of nesting petals along their inner rims. Vintage cutter quilt, brick pattern, multi colors
This was an auction find dating back many years. I am no expert but the way it is made and the materials may be early 1900's. There are several bricks where the fabric has worn and left the batting exposed. It might be good as a cutter quilt and possibly some repair. There are many good vintage fabrics. The backing is in good condition. I do not clean so there are a few spots on the back shown in photo 7. There is some water spotting on front pic 8. Overall size is 60"x73" The quilting is a 1.5" wide straight stitch overall. There is a perimeter binding that is worn in some spots. We are a smoke and pet free shop but we cannot assume the vintage pieces have not been near either with previous owners. 19th Blue And White Calico Hand Pieced Star Pattern Quilt Blocks What could be more Americana than stars. In the country primitive world. Stars and blue are two of the perennial favorites. The Gatherings is offering 23 star quilt blocks in blue calico set on white muslin. The blocks are all hand pieced and hand stitched. There are 22 matching blocks of the same calico with one block a different calico. see photo) Size of the blocks are 9" x 9-1/2" As there appears to be a stitching line along the outside of edge of many of the blocks, I'm inclined to feel, the blocks were taken apart, perhaps from a quilt top. Bowtie Quilt - lots of 50s fabrics!
Someone washed this tied bowtie quilt and the cotton wad batting is all lumpy. It really needs to be taken apart. Rebatted and backed. Then it would be quite a nice 66" x 81" quilt showcasing a variety of 1950's prints with the occasional feedsack. Each block is 5-1/2" square and is machine pieced. I didn’t see any problems with this quilt other than the lumpiness. But please assume that I just missed an open seam or two. A washed quilt of this age is bound to have some problems. Great example of how a rather large one patch can be quite graphic. Fabrics are largely from a variety of men's suits. With an American Flag tobacco felt placed in the bottom corner-almost like a signature. Love the rich floral fabric used on the back. The front and back are stitched together in a knife's edge. 86" x 59" This quilt is in excellent condition, a couple minor flea bites and one block with a Houndstooth square sewn onto it. Absolutely awesome quilt piece done in a calico strip star variation~I LOVE this one. So tempted to keep it: This is large, measures aprox 27 in X 28 in. and the satr itself takes up a good portion of the piece, so quite large itself. It, in and of itself would make an incredible wall piece! I could also see it on a table, turned into a giant pillow or covering a primitive foot stool/ottoman etc. It's just very graphic in appeal. The stitches are really small on this one though it's overall appearance is really Americana prim. Offering another lovely quilt top from my own collection in a great dark indigo star calico fabric. This one is a large snow ball variation. It appears to be hand& treadle machine assembled. Condition is wonderful for it's age; there is one area in the muslin(see last photo) that has a break. Most ofour pieces have spent decades on at least two continents. And have been treasured by several owners. Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage. Damage/Repair, stains. Wear, We do not recommend laundering textiles. And do not accept returns of textiles which have been laundered in any manner. It has made by sewing together two large fabrics machne stitched. One side has floral bright colors fabric. The fabric pn the other side has linear motifs in green, blue, and brown colors.In north Africa among the Brbrs and in the sub-Saharian Africa among the Tuareg and fulani, heavy padded quilts were used by the warriors and on the horses to protect horse as well as the riders. Horse armous are designed to fit the horse body. Our example is just a wrapper. It is probable that was more likely used as a tent hanging. Descripti on: Early 1900's rose applique quilt in green& red on a white background. This is a beauty of a quilt. The stitching really makes a statement& the red is a standout against the white background. The binding is done i n green. There are 5 large areas that are done in a wreath stitching& the entire border is done in feather stitching done in a swag. The rest of the quilt is done in a grid stitch. It is all hand stitched at 8-9 stitches per inch. The quilt measures 77 X 76. It has a very nice crisp feel to it. A real beauty! Condition: Shown in the 5th picture is a light stain. The 6th pictures shows a li ght stain on the fold line. It is just on that portion of th e line only. The 7th picture is of a place where th e binding has come away(very minor) Then the 8th picture shows a repair to the binding. The next two ... morepicture s are of the reverse side where there is one light stain& then an area of several light stains. All of this. As stated, is on the reverse. Like most antique crazy quilts it has a fair amount of damage where silk has worn through. It would probably not fare well as a bed cover today. But could make a gorgeous wall hanging. In the alternative it would certainly be worthy of repair. It has one large liquid stain in the middle(see photos) but is otherwise fairly clean. The blue velvet backing is a modern addition.
