GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. A wonderful ancient Peruvian Chimu culture effigy bottle. Dating to approximately 1100-1400 A.D. An attractive burnished bottle. Of globular form, with ... morerounded base. A moulded figure of an ox sits in rest atop the bottle with a cylindrical spout emerging from the beast's back. The Chimu are primarily known for their distinctive black glazed pottery. Strongly influenced by their predecessors, the Moche. Examples of their enchanting ceramics can be found on display in the world's top museums. The Chimu ruled much of the coast around their capital of Chan Chan in northern Peru until conquered by the Inca in the fifteenth century. Ancient Peruvians left no written records, thus their material remains are the only existing link to this long gone and intriguing ancient people. Huffener, inspired by his father, also became immersed in the world of anti-fascist ... moreactivism. Come the start of the war, he began traveling the Netherlands, helping Jews escape Nazi-occupied Europe by providing them with forged papers, and hiding them from their persecutors. This incredible bravery and selflessness was documented in The Other Schindlers by Agnes Grunwald-Spier(2010) and Huffener was honoured by Yad Vashem as'Righteous Among the Nations' in 1998. His wartime contributions were also commemorated posthumously in March 2010, when Prime Minister Gordon Brown awarded him the Hero of the Holocaust medal for"the service of humanity. Huffener eventually moved to England in the 1950s. Establishing his own antiques business in 1959 in Albury, Surrey. Here, his knowledge and collections grew to encompass antiquities, ethnographic art, glass, paintings and fossils. Also noted for his restoration skills, Huffener was much respected in his field, coming to befriend Herbert Reiser, one of the world's leading collectors. Gold (Plated?) Pre-Columbian Design Reproduction Pendant, Green Stone Beads
I am listing an ethnic design necklace that I created. Made with a beautiful gold tone(gold plated? reproduction Pre-Columbian pendant, 2 3/4" H x 3" W, strung on mat green beads, probably jasper but they look very much like jade. I had seen several authentic gold pendants recently at the Santa Fe Ethnographic show selling for many, many thousands, some $10,00-$20,000, so my piece is a good way for those of us with"limited budgets" to wear a wonderful Pre-Columbian design! In fact, I have had many compliments when I have worn it. Necklace is 25" around where attached to the pendant. But I can shorten it if buyer would prefer it that way. Pendant is unsigned. Please watch my site for other necklaces I will be listing. That I have designed with vintage, Pre-Columbian, gemstone, and trade beads, strung with ethnic and ... moreantique pendants, those of my own design and castings, fishing lures, and other funky, fun and interesting things I find on my flea market adventures.
