Colima Dog This is a wonderful Colima figural dog vessel. As found in a local estate and believed to be an ancient piece from Western Mexico, approximately ... moretwo thousand years old. The dog is fat- or pregnant- with a hollow body in aggressive stance with tail that forms a spout. The dog's eyes and mouth are incised into the clay. Dog effigies such as this were buried in tombs in the belief that dogs were an important guide into the afterlife of the deceased. Both of the dog's ears are chipped; one with minor loss. The other more significantly. Two legs have been re-glued; the repairs are rough and amateur, and the break lines appear to have had some loss and are not well-aligned. The burnished reddish brown exterior is mottled and veined. And the interior is encrusted with mineral sediment. The dog came to me without information on its history or provenance. But shows many indications of its age. It's a fascinating piece that is sure to complement any collection. Two legs repaired somewhat roughly. One ear is broken. The other is chipped. Other expected wear. Burnished exterior, rough interior with sediment deposits. 9 3/8" long. 6" high, 5" across[ p e n c i l p o i n t e r Shipping? FREE via USPS Priority International Shipping? Mayan Ceremonial Jade Celt pre Columbian adze Jadeite Axe Nearly 8 Inches
Mayan Jadeite Ceremonial Celt 7 7/8" 19.7 cm) by 2 3/8" 5.6 cm) by 1 1/32" 2.6 cm) Classic Period: 550- 950 AD Tabasco. Mexico Celts of this size. Material, and workmanship are seldom offered outside of galleries and high end auctions. It is made from the"social jade" aventurine, which glitters in the light, and is slightly translucent at the bit. See Photos) The celt is a medium green with a couple of darher green stripes, common in aventurine. It is highly polished over all, except for the poll, which, in true Mayan celt style, was left pecked and unpolished. Although the peck marks were polished away, you can still see some of the under surface peck scars, which show as a light tan colored cloud near bit area and sides of the celt. The polish has a faint gloss, but a smooth, pleasant satin feel as you hold it. ... moreThe bit is in relatively good shape. Retaining most its original sharpness. It does have an ancient chip on one corner, which has the same mineralization and patina as the rest of the celt. The sides of the celt are nicely rounded and the piece taoers from 2 3/8" at the bit to about 1 1/8" at the poll. It is highly symmetrical. The overall workmanship and material used signifies the importance of this celt in ancient times as well as now. This will make a nice center piece to any collection, and I am certain the buyer will be very pleased. As always. This celt is guaranteed ancient and authentic. For this reason, I think this one could be an authentic pre-Columbian idol sculpture. Some kind of a metal rod holds head to body, visible in photos, probably a repair made by the original collector. All surfaces are worn smooth, no sharp edges. 4" tall, 2.5" wide.

Large Ancient Pre Columbian Nazca Ceramic Face Collar Jar - 250 AD
A well provenanced. Very large, artistic and vibrant ancient Peruvian Earthenware jug from the Nazca culture, dating to approximately 250- 540 A.D. The large ovoid vessel in the form of a rotund hunter. The piece with rounded base. Globular body and short cylindrical neck. The neck decorated with a human face, shown with almond shaped eyes, the nose and mouth modeled and the long black hair protruding from underneath a painted cap. The stylised hands of the figure appearing from underneath a decorative shawl. A particularly interesting and accomplished example of the ancient potters art. Here we see a large. Spherical vessel skillfully painted and modeled to adopt the form and character of a plump male. Remarkable use of perspective. The ancient Nazca culture. Located on the Southern coast of Peru, existed from 370 B.C. through to 540 A.D. ... moreThe period saw much development of the arts, perhaps most notably in the area of slip painting, as is evidenced by this piece. Pre-Columbian - Chupícuaro, miniature ceremonial bowl
This is a polychrome. Slip painted terracotta, Chupícuaro, miniature tripod ceremonial bowl. One other example of this artifact can be seen online at the University of Maine’s Hudson Museum/Palmer-collections under the item number HM410. The bowl is red and tan with an intricate image and design embellishing the interior. It is amazing that the artisans of that time could have created this delicate vessel with such fine decoration and detail and for it to have arrived here, in this condition, from nearly 2000 years ago. The ceramic style is named after the village of Chupícuaro in the western Mexican state of Guanajuato. Located in the Guanajuato valley surrounded by the Sierra de Guanajuato and situated on the Lerma River the culture was active from about 500 BCE to 300 CE, during the same time Teotihuacán flourished. Fortunately ... moreexcavations of the site were conducted in 1946-7 revealing much of what we know today. In 1949 the Solís Dam was constructed. This led to the flooding of the area which today remains under a lake formed by this act. Chupícuaro ceramics were formed without the use of a potting wheel.Condition– One of the tripod legs was evidently reattached but the repair is nearly invisible. There are some mineral deposits as would be expected. Provenance- This item was recently obtained from the estate of the late Willis Pratt, a career academic at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Pratt owned a residence in Guanajuato and frequently visited Central Mexico between the mid 1930’s and mid 1960’s. During this period he amassed a fine collection of many pre-Columbian artifacts which he kept and displayed in his home in Austin. Guaranteed authentic.
Pre-Columbian MOCHE pre Inca Nazca BOWL C.0 - 400 A.D. Peru Ancient RARE PAINT
Pre-Columbian Large Nazca Pottery BOWL C.0- 400 A.D. Peru Ancient RARE PAINT This is a fantastic pre-Columbian piece from an old pre 1965 new Orleans area collection. Acquired by the collecting family's grandfather while living and working in Peru and inherited over the past 2 generations. This fantastic reconstructed bowl has not been repainted but bears many figures and colors as well as symbols of the ancient moche or slightly later inhabitants of northern peru known as nasca pottery which is numbered in scale as it progressed in complicatedeness. This is the first piece I am offering and it is the first time it has been offered for sale since the 1950's! I am familiar with pre-Columbian art both north and south American and have shown this piece to several collectors and a friend who is a liscensed appraiser. This marvelous bowl ... morehas stripes. Geometric symbols, and animals that look like tentacle squid around the outsid of the completely painted bowl! both the inside and the outside are highly complex in design, not your typicalone color clay vessel! The shape was the favorite thing of my client's father and grandfather! When upside down, it resembles a flying saucer or space ship! Well, anyhow I can also mention antonltd who viewed the item and gave me an estimate agreed upon by two collectors, myself and him as the professional with a reconstructed value minimum $2200.00! I will provide a written original of his estimate for the $68.00 fee he charges to put everything inwriting should the buyer wish to have the appraisal from him. You can visit his site with online store and physical shops in Metairie,La.and Beverly Hills,Ca. He sells and makes jewelry, carries all types of antiques, furs and object d' art! he is a certified appraiser as well as a certified gia gemologist an an excellent jeweler! I recommend you visit his e-bay site under antonltd and see the quality of just a few items he has at auction. Remember, this piece is prt of a third generation Louisiana collect

Pb Pre-Columbian JADE OBJECTS COLLLECTION 1927 Ramon Mena MNA Postpaid in US
Pb CATALOGO DE LA COLECCION DE OBJETOS DE JADE( JADE OBJECTS COLLECTION) Pre-Columbian MEXICO 1927 Lic. Ramon Mena. MNA(INAH) A softbound book entitled CATALOGO DE LA COLECCION DE OBJETOS DE JADE by Lic. Ramon Mena. Professor of the Arqueology Dept. Museo Nacional de Arqueologia, Historia y Etnografia(Printing Shop)Now the INAH) Mexico City, 1927, Spanish Text. 78 pages, 13 b&w plates(many with multiple objects) 553+ jades cataloged, 8-1/2" by 5-5/8" with original thin light green covers with a chipped spine cover lower and upper cover. Pages in text lightly browning from age; author Mena explains the basics of Jade in the entire world and then down to that of Prehispanic Mexico; the book catalogs objects from the cultures of Mixtec, Maya(Mayan) Quiche(Mayan) Nahua(Aztec and Toltec) Totonac, and Tzapoteca(Zapotec) I do believe ... morethat some items are mislabelled due to new information. Some were probably trade pieces and they were labeled by location in which they were found. I see one piece that is definitely Olmec but not labelled so. It is even known that the Mayas collected pieces from other cultures! Because of the use of thin paper and its age. This book is in delicate condition and must be handled with great care. This keeps me from scanning any interior pages, I think I could easily damage it. The book is not returnable if you damage it. This copy has the top left corner and the lower right corner of covers with some light damage that does not affect the text. This a POSTPAID Lot in the U S A as are ALL of my Ebay Store Lots! PRE COLUMBIAN PANAMA MACARACAS BOWL -- TRANSITIONAL
Another superb Panamian bowl A very rare piece depicting motifs from two different cultures. Four double panels of the alligator god[upside down] the most basic Macaracas theme. Combined with four panels of Y and C scrolls the most basic Conte theme. Conte dating from 600-800 AD followed by Macaracas 800-1000 AD. These are also geographically seperated by 150 miles or so. The bowl itself is a common Macaracas type from the Parita area. Most often found as plain red bowls[note: bottom of this bowl] from quite small to very large. Less often found polychromed like this one red and purple outlined in black on a cream background. For whatever reason the artist decieded to pay homage to the earlier culture. This is most rare and to be found in Intact condition is a bonus. The top and inner area of the rim shows great wear from use, little chips ... moreand dings to the paint, the rim is unbroken. This vessel has zero repaint, 100% original. If found today it would have been touched up to eliminate the weak area. It was excavated in the early 1950's by Eva and Neville Harte who are famous in Panama and the US. They donated many pieces of gold and ceramics to the American Museum Heye Foundation and most of the Panamian gold in the Dumbarton Oaks collection came from them. Panama Macaracas 800-1000 AD 8 1/2" dia X 7 1/2" high guaranteed to be genuine as described FOREVER, comes with signed.
