This comes from a regular consignor. A long-time antique collector/dealer. He describes it as Pre-Colombian; I expect the experts out there can narrow ... moreit down by inspecting my detailed pix. It is an interesting piece[ one seated figure appears to be holding a basin or vessel which in turn bears another face on its front. I'm sure there is a better description/explanation than that. But. It is carved in mottled green stone with rust red veins& splotches running through it. Figure measures 4" H x 3-1/4" D x 1-5/8" W; weighs 1 lb. before packaging) Please check out! Be sure to add me to your! by adding my eBay Store to your Favorites. Additional keywords:Vint age. Effigy, PreColumbian, Pre Colombian, hand, carved, stone, figure

ANTIQUE Guatemalan DaNcE Mask: Mayan SHAPESHIFTER? (Early 20th C) Pre-Columbian
Antique Mayan Dance Mask from Guatemala: Shapeshifter? Pre-Columbian Subject Matter: An unknown mask from an unassimilated dance that was never integrated into the Colonial mythos- antique. Rare and a riddle for Guatemalan/Mayan historians. My guess is a shapeshifter as Shamans and other healers are known to take other form at night by Mayans- this is as much as I can guess about this piece. Any information about the piece is appreciated. Size: Approx. 7" Condition/Style: All original parts with many repairs as you can see from the wires. Executed in a folk style that is unrecorded pre-dates Spanish conquest. A remnant of Mayan culture. Approx. 100 years old. Notes: Bought from a collection in Saquatepequez. Guatemala w/many layers of paint indicating much history, wiring and pieces for nose. A wonderful mystery with much history- any ... morehelp is appreciated. The vendors said that it had lost its meaning and could not say yet I have seen a newer one since, still without any reliable information. Shipping: The cost of securely shipping a mask of this weight is 15 USD internationally from Guatemala in Americas. Please add 8 USD for Europe. Australia and enquire about other locations before bidding. Shipping from Guatemala in the Americas takes approx. 14 days and can be tracked on USPS.com; all items arrive certified mail and require signature. It is not known whether the figure represents a deity or an individual of high status. on the back at the I seen one just like it on another site. the colors were all faded and it was missing the necklace. Ex Museum Whorl Animal Beads Pre Columbian Mayan Guatamalan 23 inches 49 beads
Excellent Condition. We attended an auction that featured a number of Museum duplicate/ surplus items being sold for the institutuion. Among the items were these beads. I bought a number of things for re-sale and for myself(Keeping the mask and the obsidian knife) I am selling ALL the beads I purchased in the next few days, I have four strands, all clay, no jade or other hardstone. This particular strand features 49 beads in total. Many animal motifs, and a variety of diameters from 1 CM to 1.75 CM. I am starting these 49 beads at a reasonable $149 per strand, near $3.00 per bead which is fairly cheap from what I understand.
