PRE-COLUMBIAN TRIGONOLITHE ZEMI TAINO STONE THREE POINTER TRIGONOLITO Country: Dominican Republic(Hispaniola) Culture: Taino Period: 1000- 1400 A.D. Dimensions: ... more7-1/2" L x 3" W x 6" H(19 x 7.7 x 15.2 cm) Weight: 5 lbs. 5 oz. 2 kg. 406 gm. Description: A Taino Zemi Three pointer made of Diorite stone. The trigonolithe has the classic three points with an anthropomorphic face on one side with bent arms underneath and incised design on sides and on the reverse side. Provenance: Ex. Smith collection; presently private collection. New York, N.Y. Taino culture flourished in the Caribbean between c.1200-1500. The arrival of the Spanish in 1492 resulted in its rapid decline but objects such as this striking trigonolitos. Also known as a three-pointer, testify to high levels of craftsmanship. The Taino left no written language so our knowledge about them derives solely from archaeology and the testimonials of the Spanish settlers. As a result, although significant numbers of three-pointers survive, their precise function within Taino society is unclear. The central cone of these triangular objects has been interpreted in a variety of ways. Suggestions include manioc shoots(one of the main crops of the Taino) volcanoes, the roofs of Taino houses, phalluses and the human breast. None of these theories has been universally accepted and the precise origins of the shape are likely to remain a mystery. Despite this many scholars agree that these ceremonial objects were symbols of power and fertility. This seems to be supported by a letter written by Columbus in which he reports on his findings among the Taino, Equally the majority of caciques(chiefs) have three stones to which they and their people have great devotion. One they say is for the fertility of the grain and vegetables that they grow; the next for mothers to give birth without pain, and the third for the water and sun when they have need. Three-pointers were made in various sizes and have a long history that predates the Taino fluorescence. Small examp

ANTIQUE/VINTAGE PERUVIAN CHANCAY GRAVE DOLLS-PRE-COLUMBIAN FABRIC
Welcome. For Auction are Peruvian Grave or Mummy Dolls. I purchased from auction over 20 years ago. The auction was a liquidation of one persons lifetime collection of antiquities. The story behind these type dolls is that they were made in the mid to late-20th century, but of Pre-Columbian Textile Fragments. Though they were constructed by 20th century indigenous people; the materials are from ancient gravesites. The HLATC dolls appear to be modeled specifically on dolls found in the central coastal valleys of Peru that are attributed to the Chancay culture that thrived in the region from 1000 to 1400 CE. Certainly a very interesting history behind these dolls. A wonderful addition to any collection. Thank you for bidding Check out my! Be sure to add me to your! BID EARLY.WE RARELY RE-LIST. NEW PRICE! AUTHENTIC SMALL PRE-COLUMBIAN FOOTED BOWL - TRIPOD
This piece was purchased about 30 years ago from a local dealer/collector of antiquities. Specializing in Pre-Columbian art. For the age it is in very good condition with some crazing in the inside of the bowl which does not go through to the outside. see photos) In photo 9 you will see some slight crazing on the outside, this does not go through to the inside, The reddish-brown bowl stands crooked due to the primitive construction, but I think this only adds to its character. There are small knob-like protrusions on either side near the top of the bowl, almost like small handles. Between these are three elongated lines etched into the pot with another squiggly line between the top two. The three straight horizontal lines are joined at either end with a vertical line. Each of the three feet have four vertical lines etched into them, which ... morealmost resembles toes. These are the only decorations on the pottery. The bottom edge of the handle-like parts are a little rough as are the bottoms of the feet. I would consider this as a result of wear over the years and not damage. It in no way detracts from the look of the object. The bowl measures 3 1/2 inches from knob to knob, 3 inches in diameter(where there are no knobs) and 2 1/4 inches tall. As always. If you have questions do not hesitate to contact me and I'll get back to you asap. Bid fast, bid high, bid often! Good luck in all of your bidding. and don't forget to have fun.
Authentic ANCIENT PRE-COLUMBIAN POTTERY RARE HUMAN EFFIGY STURRIP WATER BOTTLE
TALK about a charmer and RARE-RARE-RARE opportunity! Offered is a Stunning Peruvian Human Effigy Stirrup Water Bottle. from the Moche Culture of Peru. 100-750 AD Appears to be very solid with great deposits and details. Mounted in an acrylic display box hand supported by some soft gum-like adhesive that will probably clean off with acetone easily enough- but since it supports the pot(can be easily lifted off) I left it alone. Measures a healthy 7-1/4 inches tall by 5 inches wide by 5 inches deep. This is really great. Keeper piece for any collection and very rare to find. ANCIENT PRE-COLUMBIAN BLACK POTTERY WEDDING VASE,CIRCA 1200-1500AD, INCA INDIANS
You are bidding on actual item pictured. Here is an ancient pre-columbian black pottery wedding vase. Native, circa 1200-1500 AD. Very old and in good condition for age. Piece is unsigned and measures approx. 1 1 inches tall and 1 4 inches wide form spout to spout. Shows some chips to both spouts but every thing else is solid. It is amazing it survived this long. Very crude and handmade. Not on a wheel; looks to be c oil built. Very early and has a shiny appearance but piece is not glazed. We were told from an apprasial that the style of the vessel is from the Inca indians from Peru. The space within the handle represents the couples own circle of life. One spout represents the husband and the other spout represents the wife. The native american tribes derived the wedding vase from the ancient tribes. After looking on the internet, I feel quite sure it is a Pre-Columbian Stirrup Jug as was suggested to me. It has wear and chips around the lower base and one on the upper lip. I have also listed a Native American made Basket from the same estate. Please look at the pictures and email any questions. Thank you for looking ... moreand good luck.
