Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a beautiful Pre-Columbian painted polychrome Copador bowl. From the ... moreMayan culture, Honduras. A wonderfully painted polychrome bowl in red. Black and cream, it features bands painted with various geometric motifs, some linear in nature, others curvilinear. These bowls convey images of esoteric knowledge in the form of pseudo-glyphs and references to mythology. It measures 7 inches in diameter by 3 inches in height(7.62 cm by 17.7 cm) and dates to the Maya Classical Period(300-900 A.D. During this period. The Maya began using polychrome slip paint, meaning they used many different colors to decorate the pots. This method of decoration became almost homogeneous for Mayan potters, thus signaling the beginning of the Classic Period. The pot shows wear consistent with a dating to this period, and generally is in very good condition, with rubbing, minor scratches, tiny chips and wear showing on the inside. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. Pre Columbian Jurassic era dinosaur jaw, teeth, beads, artifact, pendant, fossil
Great way to wear ancient history now. This pre Columbian. By far, Jurassic period dinosaur jawbone with teeth fossil, was dug up and is now mineralized. It's teeth still in place. From teeth it appears this was a herbivore dinosaur that ground it's food with its teeth, not tear it. A bit of different piece of jewelry, it will be a crowd pleader. It was wire wrapped and has a waxed cotton cord which can be replaced with a chain if you like. My dentist took X-rays of the teeth and some still amazingly gave a pulp space. This is one of five fragments that received. No orthodontics needed. The photo of X-rays come with it to add to the story. CA: 200 million years old Part of a series of designer jewelry. Encore by Design: Wearing History, I will be putting up. The designer is Elaine Teevens, from the Bead Corner, Monument, Colorado. ... moreA piece for fun. One woman liked the interesting jasper stone. Buy it for the Flintstones See pictures and contact before buying. Sorry. I don't remember which species of dinosaur in this pre Columbian, Jurassic period piece of fossil jewelry is. But it was a smaller one looking something like a sheep. Pre-Columbian - Chupícuaro decorated bowl
This buff terracotta Chupícuaro bowl has extremely interesting decoration. The interior is covered by a pattern of brown. Concentric shapes. From rim to rim there is a broad line of red slip bisecting this pattern at an angle. Surprisingly, this red slip line is transparent as the underlying brown pattern can clearly be seen through the red slip, almost like a highlighter. The rim is covered in red slip. Turning the bowl over, on the bottom you will see a similar although not as clear pattern of concentric lines bisected by another rim to rim broad band of transparent red slip. Curiously, the two bands of red slip do not line up in the cardinal directions but rather, if continued, would intersect each other at an angle. The ceramic style is named after the village of Chupícuaro in the western Mexican state of Guanajuato. Located ... morein the Guanajuato valley surrounded by the Sierra de Guanajuato and situated on the Lerma River the culture was active from about 500 BCE to 300 CE. Fortunately excavations of the site were conducted in 1946-7 revealing much of what we know today. In 1949 the Solís Dam was constructed. This led to the flooding of the area which today remains under a lake formed by this act. Chupícuaro ceramics. Formed without a potting wheel, elevate objects intended for daily use into highly sophisticated artistic achievements. Dimensions: 6 ½” diameter. 2 3/8” high. Condition: There is an approx. 1” wide area of damage to the rim along with a variety of smaller nicks as you go around the rim. There is a compression fracture on the bottom and a distinct area of fire clouding. Provenance- This item was recently obtained from the estate of the late Willis Pratt. A career academic at the University of Texas in Austin. Dr. Pratt owned a residence in Guanajuato and frequently visited Western and Central Mexico between the mid 1930’s and mid 1960’s. During that time he amassed a fine collection of many pre-Columbian artifacts which he kept and displayed in his home in Austin. Guarantee

Rare Chancay artifact of a woman on death rattle ceremonial piece. From central Costa Rican culture and used in death rituals. It rattles when shaken. Good paint and comes with its own stand. Authentic piece comes with COA if requested. I bought this from Artemis Gallery who sell and deal in antiquities. Authentic item. It's something I have not seen before. It is rather rough hewn texture I believe when created but it adds to the piece. Many Chancay pieces have gray beige tone with black painted designs and this is no different. Really intriguing piece to have in a collection. I will be sad to part with it. Culture: Chancay. CA 1000-1300AD. Provenance Artemis Gallery item sale. Ht 6 inches. Width 5 inches, depth 1 inch. There are name examples and can be both very explicit and/ or grossly distorted images. This piece features a re long couple. Thr man seems to want to keep his hat on.but not his boots. Well carved but there are expected surface scratching and a few splotches that do not detract. A nice change up for collectors. Culture: Chimu. Peru CA 12-1400 AD Ht. 6 1/2 in. length 5 in. width 3 1/2 inches. See photos and contact me with questions. Purchased from a collector/seller of pre Columbian antiquities. PRE COLUMBIAN - MOCHE culture "DOUBLE FLYING BIRD" pendant, ca. 100 to 800 AD
A very neat looking pre-Spanish contact(pre-Columbian) stylized double sided flying bird pendant carved from orange spondylous shell. Sourced from coastal Peru, probably Moche culture dating from about 100 to 800 AD, but possibly Lambayeque or Sican, dating as late as 1400 AD. T he condition is mostly good. Showing great age and wear overall, about 19 mm(about 3/4 inch) wide, by about 19 mm tall, and 4 mm in thickness. The flat style pendant has a suspension hole on each side of the back that pierces the back near the corners and comes out through the narrow sides(so the suspension holes cannot be seen from the front) The holes are at the bottom sides of the bird. Upside down from what we might think. The early Peruvian peoples often strung pendants this way(or sewed them on their clothes) apparently caring more about seeing it themselves ... morethan from another's point of view. Please check the dimensions. Most photographs have been enlarged, and may look larger than the size of the actual items. Colors may appear somewhat different in the viewer’s computer than the item is in person. We will consider combining shipping on multiple purchases depending on the items, please contact us for details. We welcome INTERNATIONAL SALES. If you have questions. We can speak or translate many other languages, including Spanish, French and Japanese. Tribal Sacrificial Axe Necklace Pre Columbian Mesoamerican Repro Leather & Metal
Tribal Sacrificial Axe Necklace Pre Columbian Mesoamerican Reproduction. Truly unique necklace purchased by my daughter while living in Mexico in 1988, may very well be older than 1988- she has no idea from whom she bought it, constructed of a heavy metal. Possibly brass and/or silver alloy, sturdy braided black leather cord, its a reproduction of a Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican sacrificial axe. Most likely Aztec, handle is a shrieking bat head, spotted serpent wrapped around the neck, snake head is resting on the bat's head, chain is handmade: a combo of black leather& silver-tone metal, clasp is a simple hook and eye, no maker's mark or country of origin, Size: Total drop 14 1/2" Pendant length 4" Pendant width 3 1/4" Pendant depth 1" Condition: This is in very good previously used condition. The clasp works ... morefine. There is a bit of wear to the leather but no stretching or weak areas noted. One lower fang is shorter. But this is inherent to the piece(whatever it was molded from) There is a nice patina overall, and there are superficial scratches although I honestly don't know if it is specific to the piece or to what is was molded from. Tribal Alva Earrings Pre Columbian Dangle Gold Tone with Black Glass Beads. Beautiful necklace made from authentic pre Columbian stones. Earrings matched to go. The stones seem to possibly be Mayan but I am not certain of the culture. Pre-Columbian Manabi, Ecuador Spindle Whorl Bead Necklace, 200BC~500AD
Several ancient Pre-Columbian/Pre-Incan civilizations lived along the southern Manabi coast of Ecuador. They survived by living on what the sea provided them. And by trading textiles and goods with the interior tribes. Textiles(woven fabrics) were a huge part of their culture. The finest textiles were status symbols for the elite. And they fetched high value trade goods. Spindle whorls were a vital part of ancient life. As they were necessary tools in the production of clothing and fine textiles for trade. They acted as a weight which steadied the spindle that made thread from Alpaca wool. Cotton, and Vicuna wool, a type of small camel. The 36 whorls were made from the black clay found in this region. And each whorl was skillfully carved with a bird, frog, fish, turtle, or other ancient design. They are in fantastic condition. Which is remarkable ... moreconsidering they are possibly over 2,000 years old, dating from about 200 B.C. to 500 A.D. The whorls were made into a 26.5" necklace in the early 1960's. With brass spacer beads placed between them. This remarkable necklace is a genuine South American antiquity. A glimpse into the lives of a civilization long since gone. Each whorl is a genuine artifact that can be worn all together and enjoyed as a fascinating piece of jewelry. There are no papers that come with the piece. But I will be happy to share more of the history of this necklace if you email me. Please visit my store to see the many wonderful items I have there for sale!

Agriculture and fishing were very important activities. The Chimus worshipped the Moon. They view the Sun as a destroyer, possibly because of the harshness of the sun in their desert environment. ARTEMIS GALLERY Pre-Columbian Copper Ball & Shell Necklace
Pre-Columbian Copper Ball& Shell Necklace Click on these links to view larger photos: 1- 2- 3 Pre-Columbian. Northern Peru, Moche, ca. 200-700 CE with contemporary assembly. This necklace features magnificent metal craftsmanship. The Peruvians favored the hammering process, using stone hammers and anvils to fashion metal, a tradition that had been practiced since the inception of gold working in the second millennium BCE to the time of the Spanish conquest in the sixteenth century. On this piece, the copper ball pendant and other copper beads were created via this technique. The necklace also includes countless flat, round beads composed of shells and several larger bright coral-hued beads of Spondylus shell. Spondylus, commonly known as the thorny oyster, was highly prized by the ancient Peruvians and of great importance in their ritual ... moreand economic life. Found off the coast of Ecuador, the Spondylus was particularly cherished by Andean peoples. The indigenous combed the Pacific in their quest for the so-called“spiny oyster” prized for the blush hue of its interior. Spondylus shells symbolized fertility and power and played a major role during religious ceremonies oftentimes serving as an offering to Pachamama as well as a form of currency. 32”L, 34”L with pendant. PRIMITIVE OLD POTTERY Pre-Columbian Jalisco, Mexico 100 B.C.- 250 A.D ARTIFACT
This rare sculptural pottery female/mother figure measures approx 10" a tad under that) and approx 6" wide- from arm to arm. She weighs approx. 429.2 g or 15.140 oz. I feel she is in fabulous ancient condition with a"worm" hole in the back. A tiny shallow one on her chin and an intentional hole in front of her ear, which I believe might have once held an earring? On the back"heel" of her right foot there appears to be restoration to the pointed"heel" but she stands well and looks like a million bucks for her age! Please view all photos and ask questions and I will answer them as forthrightly as I am able. My guess is this tribal"mother"WARRIOR" figure represents the archetype or the ancestor or the fertility goddess of the culture. She has incredible features that depict royal"aztec" ... moreindian or mayan blood lines. Full breasts at shoulder level as a symbolic message- strength, stability, NURTURING power. All in all this is an excellent. Precious and ancient piece of Ancient History whether your interest lies in Latin American, South American, The Americas or Native American History! We ship globally.
