PRE-COLUMBIAN PIARTAL ANFORA (LG) Narino Colombia
This is a reproduction of an original piece from the Piartal culture. Which flourished between 750-1250 A.D. in the mountainous regions near the Colombia-Equador border. This piece was used as a water recipient, the rounded base buried underground to keep its contents cool, and making it easy to tilt and serve to a smaller recipient to bring into the dwelling. Decorated with geometric figures on one side, and raised facial features on the other, it apprears in the colors most representative of life for this group: yellow for the abundance of the sun, black for the wise and silent night, and red for the life inside man. Little is known about these cultures that occupied the area in and near Colombia. The Piartal were excellent goldsmiths and ceramists. The pieces that have survived are of extraordinary beauty. Because of the abundance of gold ... morein the area, once the Spaniards arrived, whole groups were wiped out to loot the treasures. The legend of El Dorado fueled more and more exploration. Even today, burial grounds can be discovered and pillaged, leaving little to study. Ceramics that remain today are from tombs, and are ceremonial in their use, representing rituals and events in their lives. Governments have now made international trade of these original pieces illegal. As we piece together bits left behind. We can begin to see cultures that were quite amazing, and begin to see how our world is not as large as we often believe. These pieces are an homage to those cultures. Carefully examined and studied by an experienced archeologist, they are faithfully reproduced from originals, hand crafted by applying the same techniques and the same natural materials used by ancient potters in its elaboration and decoration. Measurements: 12 ½” diameter. 27” high. Ceramic, negative painting, polychromatic. Metal stand included in price, height with stand 33" Painting may vary from piece to piece, since all are painted by hand. Powered by The free listing tool. Pre-Columbian Figural Vessel - Nayarit Culture / 200 BC - 250 AD/ Western Mexico
Pre-Columbian Mexican Sitting Figural Vessel Nayarit Culture. 250 BC- 200 AD ~ please scroll down for more photos ~ Pre-Columbian terra cotta figural vessel from Western Mexico. Nayarit Culture. 250 BC to 200 AD. SIZE: Height- 8.25" 12 cm) Width- 4.5" 11.5 cm) Depth- 3.5" 9 cm) An anthropomorphic male sitting figure. Leaning forward with his left hand holding an object in, or up to his mouth. His right hand is on his right knee. The figure has foreshortened legs, long curving arms of unequal length, a flattened face with a proportionate nose and coffee bean eyes. He is wearing multiple ear spools. This figure's head. Body, and legs are hollow and there is a large round opening at the top of his head, making the piece into a vessel as well as a figure. The figure's hair is cut into bangs across the forehead and the details ... moreof the hair were inscribed into the clay before firing. The neckline also has dimension and is raised up from the body. Depicting the figure to be wearing clothing. The surface of the figure is of the red burnished- polished clay and there are remnants of white and possibly black slip pigments painted on the face. There may have been yellowish designs on the chest. As well, but if so they hardly visible now. The surface shows dark dimensional manganese deposits in many areas. And some light encrustations of dirt and other substances in the crevices. This piece is between 1.800 and 2,250 years old. It was collected during the 1940's and was obtained from an old San Francisco collection. Condition: This piece is in good excavated condition with no losses. The following is noted: A tight. Stable, very thin hairline extending from the front of the figure's throat, over his right shoulder, to the back of his neck. It appears that there is a very old repair where the upper left part of the head has been glued back after a separation. A line showing this runs under his left eye, up the forehead and hair and down the back of his head and over the left ear(please see photos

RARE! Pre Columbian. Aztec Copper Tool/Money.
This was Found with a metal detector in South America. Ancient Aztecs forged these out of copper nearly 600 years ago. This copper tajadero(Spanish for chopping knife) was a form of money used in central Mexico and parts of Central America. Also known as Aztec hoe or axe money. This standardized, unstamped currency had a fixed worth of 8,000 cacao seeds– the other common unit of exchange in Mesoamerica. This piece was made around 1500, about 20 years before Spain began to colonize Mexico. During the early colonial period, in an economy where minted coins were in short supply, tajaderos like this one were still being exchanged for goods by native Mexicans. Meanwhile, the Spanish colonists were using gold dust, nuggets, and silver bars or sheets as currency. Where were the many millions of pesos minted in Mexico going? After 1535, minted money ... morewas one of Mexico's biggest exports, along with indigenous agricultural products like textile dyes, cacao, and vanilla. The gold and, especially, silver pesos that originated in Mexico's mines were sent to Spain to pay for manufactured goods produced in countries like England, France, Holland, and later, China. These imports were expensive– only the wealthier Spanish colonists and the indigenous aristocracy could afford them. Their wealth was based in part on the tributes paid by indigenous men and women and by the increasingly large population of free people of African descent. The history of all these peoples intersected and blended during a centuries-long process of dramatic social reorganization and economic exploitation that imposed an often violent or coercive exchange of language, labor, technology, and genes.

Delightful Ancient Pre-Columbian zoomorphic Vessel (1000 - 1500 AD)
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE This amazing zoomorphic vessel of a double-headed jaguar belonged to a personal collection of artifacts discovered in the Atlantic Watershed zone of Costa Rica. In the Nicoya P eninsula. Made by the ancient pre-Columbian civilization of the Chorotega people. Dating from 1000-1500 AD this incredible detailed piece measures10" in width and 9 ½" in height. The condition of the piece is superb with mild weathering of the surface as would be expected of an authentic piece of this age and minimal restoration to one leg(pleae see photo#6) The pictures are very clear and show the vessel as it appears. It was most likely used for drinking or burning ceremonial substances as other artifacts discovered in the same area were utilized. It is a museum quality piece worthy of any collection for a ... morevery fair price. Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE These vessels are distinguished by animal shapes. Often four-legged with two heads on opposite sides and a bowl on top. Realistic features and abstract designs are painted in clay slips of several colors on a light background. Pieces like this one with jaguar heads have been found in elaborate graves. They have a function in a ritual involving food or drink or the burning of incense. Likely possessed by a chief. Ceramics found in residential areas, presumably for everyday use, are much simpler and sturdier. The Chorotega was the most powerful American Indian tribe of northwest Costa Rica at the time of the Spanish conquest. The Chorotega were corn farmers. Had markets and a semidemocratic social structure in which chiefs were elected, and carried on frequent warfare with neighbouring peoples. They wore padded cotton armour and fought with bow and arrow and a wooden sword set with small flint knives. Religious festivals featured the South American custom of the ritual drinking bout; however, Mexican traits such as human sacrifice and self-mutilation of the ears, tongue, and genitals were also present. A pantheon of gods

Mexico- West Coast and Classic Period Cultures Michoacan. Mexico Ca. 200 B.C. Ex. Lorenz Borenstein. New Orleans, collected in the 1950’s. Excellent condition for this age* PLEASE ADD ME TO YOUR FAVORITES LIST* Hi! My name is Elena. I’m collecting ancient beads from 1979. Most of my beads were found in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. To be precise they were found between Mary city(Turkmenistan) and Samarkand(Uzbekistan) That area in past was called Bactria. Nowadays there are a lot of ruins older than 2000 years in this region. I like ancient beads very much and want that other collectors will be able to obtain them without paying a lot of money. That is why my prices are very modest. I lived ... morein Asgabat city(the capital of Turkmenistan) over 30 years. About 15 km from Asgabat there is Nisa– former residence of Alexander the Great. And capital of Parthia. In most cases the ancient beads. Not only played the role of jewelry but also the status of the person wearing them. You were able to tell the social status of an individual based on the beads they were wearing, while other used these beads as talismans protecting themselves against bad luck and the evil eye. Certain beads that have zigzagging lines are supposed to confuse the evil eye which would get lost in these lines. Beads that have the image of an eye try to just absorb the evil energy, and thus protect the person who is wearing them. Periodically the beads would be washed in salt water, because it is believe the salt water kills the negative energy. The image of the eye was sometimes very abstract and was more like an image of a flower, however sometimes the beads would correctly reflect the wearers eyes, including the color. Parthia kingdom. The tsar of Parthia- Mitridat I(around 170—138/137 BC) took away the Selevkied's eastern satrapies(land) Persia. The largest part of Mesopotamia, Armenia an

They do not have the"eagle" mark on them so I believe they are from prior to 1949. They measure 1.25 inches tall. They are screw-backs and they weigh 9.7 grams on my jewelry scale. Pre Columbian Relic Head Figurine
Pre Columbian Relic Head Figurine All know about this is that my client tells me that it in Pre-Columbian. I have no other information concerning the region of origin. Age, or provenance. The plastic box appears to have been assembled around it. It cannot be removed without breaking the box. I'm not sure if the white spots are inclusions in the stone or weathering. There in some glue residue from where it was glued to the stand in this box and some from another stand. There appear to be fracture marks on the sides of the neck suggesting that this was once part of a larger sculpture. The back of the head his some residue that has the color of dried mud. I cannot see any other cracks, chips, or scratches, however it being in the box makes inspection difficult and I may have missed something. The head itself is about 3.5" high. Customs ... morefees. We are utilizing eBay's calculated shipping and the shipping cost is calculated with their system. This will appear when you use our shopping cart. Described By: Josh Title: Pre-Columbian Artifacts Idols Heads of Deities Terracotta Aztec Figurines Description: These items have been in our vaults since a cache of antiquities was left with us by a collector almost 30 years ago. Our staff art historians have now identified these as authentic Pre-Columbian artifacts. Dating back to the 1500 AD or earlier. This is a particularly interesting group of figurine heads, because the lot shows influence of Toltec, and even Olmec sculpture from many centuries ... moreearlier. The Aztecs had great reverence for the art of the Toltecs, claiming a lineage from their predecessor culture. A reference to a Toltec god seems to be made in the head adorned with a rectangular headdress or hat. The head shape in the upper row on the gallery photo(second from the left) is reminiscent of certain Olmec idols, whereas the largest, widest piece here represents one of the most important deities in the Aztec pantheon, Tlaloc the rain god. The piece with a remnant of its neck and small amount of shoulder may be a representation of Xipe Totec, related to ritual sacrifice. Common in art of Mexico and Central America. And evident in these pieces is “animalized” features. One of the heads could represent a monkey, as the facial features and black remnants of paint used to indicate hair on the head and neck suggest. Another, ringed with a large beaded necklace, shows a feline type of nose and face shape. Combining jaguar features with a human body is seen especially in Central American cultures. For the above reasons, this collection has significant art historical value. Two of the pieces have had “Aztec” written on the back in pencil, visible in the included
