VINTAGE 1930'S MEXICAN EROTIC COUPLE PRE-COLUMBIAN STYLE TERRACOTTA STATUE
I'm not certain of my description here but I've been advised that this is a 1930's terracotta statue in the Mexican Pre-Columbian style. Designed to be sold to gullible Westerners as the real thing. Pictures tell the story. Nothing to be added really, certain areas are very graphic so I've had to obscure them. Appears to be hand sculpted rather than cast. In very good condition except for the odd nibble here and there. 9.5 inches tall and weighs 1.416 kilos. I also have two similar objects which I may list if any interest is shown in this one. See last picture. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fvo%7B2d71f%2Bb%3A%60%3E-13d9e795008-0x103-

Pre-Columbian God Figurine/Pendant 14KGold/tumbaga tested 37.9 grams
This is a piece that has been in our family since a grandfather went to Panama prior to the second world war. We had it tested by a local gemologist as shown and she certified that it was 37.9 grams of 14Karat gold. She certified it only as a jewelry item and that the gold mix was consistent with tumbaga. But was unable to tell us when it was made, only that it was old and in a"pre-Columbian form" We have listed it for auction but obviously it's gold content gives it a floor value. It is framed and the frame is included and also in excellant condition. It hangs well as a pendant, but only looks great on a large chest.

It may be Mayan or Aztec but I am not sure. Please see all photos for the best description I can offer myself. I am sure there are experts who will know exactly what it is. The actual piece is made from a strong pottery and is displayed on a stand with a wooden base. The clay piece is approximately 6-7 inches in length overall. His bio is below. Mexico or Guatemala. 1900's. Reproduction Olmec Jade Nephrite Sculpture Pre-Columbian Style. Nephrite jade sculpture of a kneeling/ genuflecting corpulent figure with hands on knees and head thrown back. Olmec style face with oblong eyes wide nose and characteristic downturned mouth. The stone of dark olive green flecked with dark lines. The rather shallow carving of the eyes, lacking the depth and oval shape of true olmec carved jade figures strongly suggest that this is a copy rather than a period original work despite wear to the foot and knee on which the figure rests. Perhaps as early as early to mid 1900's in dating. VERY HEAVY it measures approx. 5" x 7" For those not familiar with Anthony Lee here is his bio: Anthony M. Lee is an institutional. Beautiful Coloring One of the pre Columbian pieces purchased from The Foliophiles Collection when they were in Santa Fe. One of the last few I have left and the last one I am willing to part with(they WILL bury me with the Colima bowl I purchased at the same time that is decorated with stars around the rim) Not that parting with this bowl is easy, but we've just purchased some rather large art collections and so we have to let something go. The bowl measures approximately 6 3/4" across at the top and 2 1/4" high. I was ... moretold by the gallery owner that it was acquired from another dealer in the late 1960's. Pre Columbian Like Jade Face Magnificent Reproduction
Pre Columbian Jade Face" 5 1/4 x 5 Inches From the estate of John Stenvall Obtained in Mexico in 1946. Dear Mr. Stenvall. the letter read. For the opening exhibition of the season a carefully selected group of young artists will be launched at the Downtown Gallery. This letter, dated September 10, 1936, began a new chapter in the young artist's life(he was then 29) The Downtown Gallery was an important player in New York's cultural life, and its owner, Edith G. Halpert, was an American art expert well known for her perspicacity and taste. At the time of the propitious letter. Stenvall had been steadily engaged in artistic pursuits for roughly nine years. In that relatively short span of time, he had made a strong showing, acquiring a good education, an impressive exhibition record and awards. Now his career had been officially ... morelaunched by a prominent New York gallery. His future was full of promise! Born in Wyoming in 1907. Stenvall studied piano in his youth in Washington state and Nebraska, and he intended to make music his life's work. In college at the University of Nebraska, however, he took up design and painting, mainly he said, because all of my friends were studying engineering. During his art studies he frequently took issue with the instructors, one of whom decided"he was too young and innocent" to draw from a plaster cast of a nude woman and many of whom he considered rather dogmatic in their views. All this notwithstanding, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1931. Winning a scholarship for advanced study in industrial design and painting. Stenvall spent a year at the Art Institute of Chicago. Then, having had enough of school, he went out into the world to travel, work at commercial art jobs, and paint. Eventually, he settled down in Chicago and worked on and off with the W.P.A. art project as a painter and designer. For all of this youthful assertiveness. Stenvall's work gained immediate acceptance. In 1933, his work was exhibited at the Chicago Art Institut

Pre-Columbian MAYAN CERAMIC JAR 3" h. PAINTED DESIGNS Postpaid in USA
PRE-COLUMBIAN MAYAN CERAMIC JAR FROM EL SALVADOR; MAYA CULTURE[350-950AD] 3-3/8" WIDTH. 3" HEIGHT One Small Cream Ceramic Mayan Jar from the Maya Culture(Classic Period 350 to 950AD) measuring 3" width at handles by 3" high. With red painted vertical and horizontal lines and designs. Obviously the paint is lighter on one side where it probably was nearer to a damp wall which affected it. The rim appears to have been all red but that has lightened significantly. The"handles" appear to be heads with a mouth and the eyes are holes where cords were placed so it could be suspended. There are a couple of chips along the rim. Due to size it may have been for some substance of value; a painted piece usually means it was used ceremonially.
