Late 19th Century Pewter or Paktong Silver Chinese Jar.
Pewter in color. Most likely Paktong silver, with brass handles and fruit with flower and leaves on the lid. The jar is 7" tall and 61/2" wide. There is an inscription on either side of the jar which translates loosley, keeping(things) pure" but may also suggest that the object is"high class" The characters under the lid literally read"pure things wrap use, suggesting that the container is used to keep its contents pure. The inscription on the underside suggests that the vessel is a"genuine thing. The motifs on the lid depict a peach(symbolic of longevity) plum blossoms(symbolic of perseverance and purity) There is lovely hand etching all over the jar consisting of flowers, birds and Chinese symbals. There is a 2" dent or crease towards the bottom on the back of the jar. A note was found in the jar ... moreupon purchase stating"Pewter Ginger Jar with brass handles. The coat of arms is surrounded by a winged lion(St. Mark-like) and a unicorn with the letters FS. The FS would identify the manufacturer as the Friedman Silver Co. This mug appears to be well used. Straight from the farmhouse dinner table. Thick clear glass. With a hidden spout, by what looks like, a pewter hinged lid. It is possible to duplicate the design, but not the age. This is a true"old" piece. Measuring it with the lid in place, at 7 1/2 inches high. Across the bottom center, it is 3 3/4. There are some excellent markings of age to this piece. No cracks or chips. On the handle there are two lines, possibly from the stone of a ring. These are not cracks. And yes, there should be signs of use from the lid. It is an old piece. There is a'dimple' on the bottom, and rough cuts around the inside of the rim. I am certainly ... morenot an authority on any item I list to sell. I do not sell as a flea market. A great deal of time and effort(and eye strain: went into the making of this rosary. The beads are faceted blue glass and VINTAGE. Obtained from an old rosary missing beads and in need of repair. The lead-free pewter crucifix is NEW and 2-1/4" long(including the top loop) The Sacred Heart of Jesus center is VINTAGE and silvertone in color(not goldtone as the photo might indicate) with enameled image of the Sacred Heart. The center is in excellent condition for its age and matches the hearts on the pewter crucifix nicely. The wire I used to link the beads and parts together(the rosary is continuously linked. Antique 1890s Pewter Sick Call Crucifix Candleholder& Holy Water Font This sale is for a Beautiful. Antique and Rather Heavy, Pewter Crucifix Candle Holder& Holy Water Font, from the 1890’s. This wonderful piece features a highly detailed Rococo-Style Crucifix, with side candle holders and a Holy Water Shell Font in front. It has a Silver color finish. Most of these pieces were entirely Cast Iron and painted Gold or Silver. But there were a few made partly from Pewter. The look nearly identical. However, in the Pewter Pieces, it’s easy to bend and shape the upper portion of the piece(Candle Holder Arms and Crucifix) with your bare hands. This is NOT the case with the cast iron versions. The Cast Iron pieces sell for $80- $140 while the Pewter pieces get $120-$200. This piece was part of a Sick Call Outfit from the 1890’s. Residents would keep these in their homes for the Priest to use when he made a house call to visit and pray over the Ill. Large Stainless Steel Mexican Knife, Pewter & Plastic Handle, Age??
A big knife that I bought many years ago in Mexico. Don't even remember exactly where nor what year. But had to have been in the mid-60s. It's been outside the house most of the time. Especially the last year or so, not directly exposed to moisture and such, but it would have rusted had it been carbon steel. So it is stainless steel. The handle looks like pewter and plastic. No stamp to show who made it except for that Mexico 57C. The balance point is right about where the handle starts. Plastic is a hard plastic. Doesn't polish too easily. The knife weighs 8 ozs. The knife has an edge, but isn't super sharp. It'll cut. To me it's more of a display knife but it could be used, plenty of heft to it. I cleaned it up and polished it.
