By the monk, Yoshida Kenko, and originally written between 1330 and 1332, entitled THE MISCELLANY OF A JAPANESE PRIEST. Being a Translation of Tsure-Zure Gusa. By William N. Porter. With an introduction by Sanki Ichikawa. Published in London by Humphrey Milford in 1914. 216 pages. Contains several illustrations from Japanese prints. The Tsure-Zura Gusa is one of the most important of medieval Japanese works, which contains many meditations on life from a Buddhist point of view, but also relates humorous stories and other miscellany. Book itself is bound in Art Nouveau-decorated green cloth, with top page edge brightly gilded. Discoloration on front cover, nick to cloth at rear of spine, and plates have dampstain along margins, but overall ... morebook in VERY GOOD condition. This is for a lovely old Victorian Dutch silver miniature table. The top of the table has a detailed scene with men on horse back. Dogs and a village in the back ground. The table stands on four legs that are joined with a cross section and the edges of the table are decorated with an ornate scrolled pattern. The silver carries a set of mid 19th century Dutch silver marks along with a full set of English import hallmarks that date it to London 1891. It has the makers, or in this case sponsers initials LL for Lewis Lewis. It is in absolute excellent condition with no damage to it anywhere, no holes and no no wear to the image. It measures 70mm(2.75" by 42mm(1.75" and stands 38mm(1.5" tall. Here is a nice old German tapestry I purchased many years ago. This tapestry according to the former owner came over in the early 1900's with a German immigrant family. The scene is of a medieval hunting styled theme of deer/stag being hunted. Also of a man blowing a horn with dogs in hand, maidens, a castle, etc. You can tell it is old and well made. The back has a few water stains on the back. The photos should be able to tell all.
