It is pear-shaped and dates from the later Kangxi period, about 1700-1720. In the notes of the collector who owned the piece, he described it as a miniature coffee pot. He might be right! However, in the Benjamin F. Edwards III Collection, Part III, lot 60, there is a lot of Chinese Imari five cruet jugs, two of which are similar in form to the one offered here. What makes this piece particularly desirable is that both the body and the lid are molded, so that there are multiple curves to enjoy: a rococo ... morepanache! The Kangxi Vase has some glaze frets commonly found on examples of this early age, and would have possibly had a lid which is missing. But overall the Vase is in fine untouched original condition with no cracks, or repairs. The Qianlong Jar has old repairs to the top rim, which could be redone if desired.
