WWII Japanese Army Officer Parade Sword W/ Scabbard. Tassel and Certificate authorizing this"captured" sword to be brought back to the States at the end of WWII. The sword is in very good condition. The Scabbard has two small dents and some minor finish issues but over all in is good condition. The tassel is in fair condition as the cloth has deteriorated a little. It is a very nice find to have the tassel actually still with the sword. The photos should help you more than the description. Then the blade is adorned with artwork like the tsuba and handle and scabbard. CONSERVATION 1 Do not attempt to sharpen the blade. The use of sharpening stones or(heaven forbid) a grinding wheel can cause the total destruction of the sword from a collectors standpoint. It takes special training skill and tools to properly polish and sharpen the sword. 2 Do not use sandpaper. Steel wool or any abrasive materials on any part of the blade including the tang(nakago) These will scratch the blade and detract from its beauty. 3 Do not use ANY type of metal polish on the parts of the sword handle. japanese sword war trophy old blade
You are looking at a WW2 japanese katana. Im not sure how old the blade is. The blade length is 25 inches long not including the tang. Has a leather combat cover over the scabbard. Nice old iron tsuba. Menuki and fuchi, koshira and a copper habaki. The fittings are all iron. not sure what the menuki aree made of but looks to be a soft metal. Blade is signed on both sides. It has two holes in the tang. Blade has a blood groove on each side. No chips, cracks or bends in blade. I do not see any visable flaws. Blade is out of polish. I think this is a old blade. JAPAN JAPANESE WWII ARISAKA BAYONET SWORD& SCABBARD HANDLE REPAIRED TRENCH ART This is a WWII era Japanese Arisaka sword bayonet in scabbard. Note: the handle is damaged and has a lucite quillon added that is not original to the piece. The over-all length of bayonet in the scabbard is 20 3/8" The scabbard alone measures 16 3/8" x 1 1/4" wide and has the ball tip. The blade(without handle) measures 15 5/8" x 3/4" This is a fullered blade. The groove measures 12 1/8" What's left of the handle measures 3 1/2" x 1" and has 4 holes where the grip was rivoted into it. The handle is stamp marked. 11 81" The lucite quillon is a style similar to ones on this type of bayonet and is a replacement. My thought on this is that it may be a piece of lucite from the WWII era. I have seen trench art pieces ... moreusing bits of lucite(from cockpits and instrument panels.souvenirs re-purposed in trench art creations) This may not be the case however. The blade is hallmarked.see my photo of this detail. The stamp is a circle within a circle with radiating bars from center circle. I am not sure what Arsenal this is. The Arisaka rifle that fit with this bayonet was a bolt action service rifle from 1897-1945 designed by Arisaka Nariakira. The handle is missing the wood and some metal to the back end. It may be repairable with the right parts welded on and a new wood grip rivoted back on.or a new handle created for re-purposed use as a fighting knife of some kind. Either way there is still enough of this bayonet left to be interesting and functional with some TLC. See my store for other interesting Militaria and historical items and antique photos. Japanese sword- extra long Kyu Gunto Type 19 company grade dress sword. This must be a rare type as shown in swords of Imperial japan 1868-1945 by Jim Dawson. Page 66, plate 6-18. This dress sword is 39 inches overall length and the longest I have ever owned. The blade with groove is 32 3/8 inches long and has the fake temper pattern. This was sold to me as a rare police sword but has all 10petal cherry blossoms and must be a type 19 army. If worn by a 6ft sodier it almost touches the ground so the Japanese soldier must have been a larger person. What is also rare is that the owner put his name in kanji on the sword handle. It reads Owada. some swords will have a family crest in silver but this one has 3 kanji in the round with edges looking like a chrysanthemum petals. a great WWII collectible. Condiiton: Old/ Used. This is a beautiful and all original WWII Japanese army Type 95(Model 1935) NCO sword that is complete with correct original matching numbered scabbard. 27 ½” blade has nice original bright metal finish with factory edge that does not appear to have been field sharpened. The blade is bright a few smudges and gray freckles and overall excellent original polished finish. The scabbard retains 90% original paint and no major dents or damage. The handle retains a good deal of original painted details and I would call it 80-90% This is a nice original sword with clear markings and a beautiful blade. This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in 98 mountings. The blade is signed"Masafusa 正房" Dated"Showa Juhachi-nen(ca.1943) 昭和十八年" shinogi-zukuri shape, hand forged Gendaito blade. Masafusa's real name is Shoda Kihichi. Was born in 1916 in Gifu prefecture, made swords during WWll time period and after the war as a gendai sword smith, listed in John Slough's book page 97,98 and rated 1 Million yen smith. The blade is in old polish, shows light staines but no rust and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome with choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep turn-back temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend. No nicks, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is metal scabbard, shows tiny lacquer loss but no dent, no bend ... moreand in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no loose. No cut also in good condition. The tsuba and seppa are matched, no number stamped. The lock mechanism works perfect. The blade measures 26+5/8" tip to the guard, 25+5/8" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 7mm thickness at the notch and 39+1/2" in mountings. Very good condition and guaranteed original WWII Japanese Type 19 kyu-gunto sword that is a company grade officer issue piece. 30 ½” blade has original bright metal finish with some scattered flaking to brown and gray. Mostly in the fullers. Never sharpened. Guard and back strap have classic army style 10-petal cherry blossom designs. Brass knuckle guard, back strap, and guard all have very pleasing untouched patina. Grip is free of cracks and chips and has mostly tight wire wrap. Fitted in correct original all steel scabbard that has original bright metal finish showing some scattered flaking to brown, no dents. Complete with both hanger rings. Up for auction is a fine Antique Japanese Sword. It comes from a collection of 5 swords I will be listing. They are from the estate of Colonel Lane Carlson. She was named one of the first five women colonels in the Army. She joined the WAC after college and was aide to General MacArthur in Japan. During that time she once served as Helen Keller's guide in Japan. In 2011 these swords were found in her home in the garage in a wooden crate. They were wrapped in Stars and Stripes newspaper from 1947. Tokyo-Yokohama. Japan Edition. The crate had not been opened since she brought them home. So they were all aquired post WWII in 1946-47. This is a Japanese sword in honzukuri mountings. The blade is no signed. Nagamaki-Naoshi shape. Early muromachi period ca.1400 era made Yamato school blade. The blade is in old full polish. Shows tiny scratches on surface but no stain, no rust and in very good condition. The temper line is Hososugu temper pattern and Yakizume temper at the point. The forging grain is tight Itame-hada with Sugu and one forging flaw at all. The scabbard is urushi lacquered wood scabbard. Shows minor lacquer loss but no dent, no crack and in good condition. Authentic Real Japanese short sword signed pre 1600
Hello I have for auction a genuine Japanese short sword. I don't know much about these but I'll do my best to describe. The blade measures 19 3/4" overall and the cutting edge is 14 7/8" The blade is 1 1/8" wide and a little under 1/4" The blade has a small finger nail chip by the silver collar and light rust on the top of the blade. The steel has what looks to me like a couple of very small openings but it can't be felt with your finger nails. The temper is strong and a bright wavy pattern of small circles and different irregularities. Inside the temper are other like fine lines. The blade is also signed on one side and the scabbard has writing on it. Maybe someone could tell me what it says. The one person I showed some picture too said. japanese TANTO dagger antique sword silver mounts koshirae NO RESERVE !!
very nice small tanto dagger sword. has attractive koshirae. Silver bands/mounts/tips. they are beautifully scuplted. the tsuba is gold colored. the base of the blade appears to be copper with an interesting pattern all around it. there are a few areas of damage, there is the slightest bit of the tip missing, a few specks and darker patches on the blade, on each side of the scabbard near the silver tip there is some finish missing(pictured) along the edge from where the tanto is inserted, there is a hairline crack with very little finish missing between the first two silver bands. 3 tiny dots of finish missing, slightly bigger than this comma, i ran out of photos allowed, they are minor. when i got this, one of the silver emblems on the side of the handle was tied on with string. i could push the opposite one out through the handle with a ... morechopstick, but the blade will not come out and i do not wish to force it. i tacked the loose emblem on with one dot of glue( on the metal post, not on the handle) for display. it is easily pulled off if you wish to have it repaired. normally these have a bamboo stick going through the handle to hold the blade, this one has a metal pin and copper sleeve, from which it broke off) it is 11 1/2 inches long inserted into the scabbard, the blade is 6 5/8 long which includes the copper base piece, the handle is 4 1/4 long. sorry, no international shipping. i have to ship via usps, and they do not furnish a tracking number for international shipments. Koto Period Tachi Japanese Samurai Sword
An absolutely beautiful tachi fresh from an estate sale. Completely original and unmolested. The blade is a fine and very healthy koto period work of art with an elegant curve. There are no fatal flaws of any kind. The temper line is very bright. Wide and visible the entire length of the blade. The cutting edge is very sharp and measures 25 3/4 inches. It is fairly scuffed up and has a couple light sword cuts on one side(see last picture) The tang is a nice mumei osuriage with 2 holes. The mounts are late Edo period with all matching soft metal tachi fittings. The scabbard is covered in fine gold work. Both handle and scabbard show a lot of wear and have cracks and chips. Very nice huge noded ray skin on the handle. Small patch is missing on the other side. Menuki and tsuba missing as is a piece of the kojiri, otherwise complete and all original. ... morePosted with
