1880s JAPANESE SAMURAI SWORD w/MIXED METAL FITTINGS & SHEATH
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. 1880s JAPANESE SAMURAI SWORD w/MIXED METAL FITTINGS& SHEATH Presented is a great Japanese samurai short sword with its original mixed metal sword fittings and scabbard. The sword dates from the Late 1800s or Meiji era. Or perhaps earlier. The hilt is lined with shagreen or sharkskin wrap and then bound in place with red cord. The tsuba or sword guard has beautiful inlaid gold floral and vine work, and is possibly older than the rest of the fittings. The fuchi or hilt collar and kashira(pommel) are beautifully done in matching grape vine motifs. The menukis or ornaments wound under the red cord are also mixed metal gold work, and are in an unusual double-gourd shape. We cannot fully see what it is without unwrapping the cord. The scabbard or sheath has a nice, light ... morelacquer to the sheath. A small utility knife or kogai is fitted to the top portion of the scabbard. The little knife has two characters etched into the blade. The knife-handle depicts a mixed-metal scene of two warriors in full armor attacking each other. The condition is excellent. The knife and sword are sharp. So please be careful! The blades and hilts are in great shape. The sword fittings are in excellent condition. The scabbard has some missing pieces to the wood to the rim of the top of the scabbard. This is caused by improperly drawing the sword from the sheath, and the sword has sliced through some of the rim of the scabbard. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN HANDLING THE SWORD! A small panel of wood is also missing near the small knife. This is shown in the photos. There are no other breaks. The entire piece is approximately 26 1/4 inches long. Authentic Japanese Gendaito: Signed[Chonsai] Emura Saku. Chonsai Emura is a swordsmith from the WWII Era. Highly revered by collectors for producing high quality blades. His blades are considered true Nihonto, swords made using traditional forging techniques, in which the steel is folded and water quenched. Such swords of this era are called Gendaito. Commentary: During World War II. A swordsmith named Chounsai Emura. Originally from Tokushima in Shikoku, operated a swordmaking school on the grounds of the Okayama Prison. He made sword blades himself and also trained prisoners to make sword blades in support of the Japanese war effort. Emura san died in 1960. Asian small sword, metal handle, wood sheath - Burmese dha?, Thai?, Japanese?
You are considering a small sword/dagger(Asian) with a wood sheath and metal handle. It measures approx. 18 inches. Sheathed(please see photo#5) I do not know its age or place of origin. The sword was in the estate of a Vietnam War vet who had also inherited his uncle's memorabilia from Occupied Japan. As such the piece could have been obtained in 1950's Japan, or 1970's Vietnam or environs- Burma or Thailand) I have tried to research this item, to no avail, although one kind writer has informed me that it is a Burmese or Thai dha; see Q&A below. The blade is very sharp and the tip has a minuscule'burr' The grip of the handle seems to be a metal wrap of some sort that is vaguely reminiscent of'chain mail' seen under old armor) but that may be because I'm more familiar with medieval history and weaponry ... morethan Oriental swords/knives. Nice Japanese WW2 Sword Katana Type 1944 NLF Signed
Up for sale we have a Japanese WW2 Type 1944 veteran bringback sword. This has a sharp blade that is signed Norisada that worked during the Showa era during WW2. This sword is very clean and bright from being stored in a bag for years and has a very nice blade due to this. The overall length on sword is 39 3/8 inches long in the scabbard. About 37 1/2 inches out of scabbard and 27 inches from tip to tsuba. The only thing I see is some rub marks and a small dark spot at one side of tip. This will be very hard to upgrade! If you need more information just ask. I will require insurance on this item.

We Have had(2) knowledgable ebayers send the following information concerning this Sword: 1) This is an officer style type 3 ww2 katana. not an nco. you can browse around about this type 3 sword. 2) Signed by swordsmith MASANORI. But why did you unwrap the tsuka to to remove the handle.When all you had to do was remove the pin and it can be done with out unwrapping.It will cost someone over $200.00 dollars to have it redone right! Most amateurs would take a grinder to fix the blade, or a buffer to polish it. You should leave well enough ... morealone if you know nothing about it. Footnote to the second part of this input.The blade has had NO GRINDING and we plan on no further adjustments or attempts at cleaning or anything. Very good condition and guaranteed original Japanese military Type 25 cavalry sword that is complete with correct original matching numbered scabbard. This is an extremely rare sword to find. With only about 17,000 made between 1892 and 1899, when it was superseded by the Type 32. Sword is marked on the blade with a few Kanji character markings and a serial number. Full length blade has original bright metal finish with some scattered gray and was never sharpened, edge has a few dings. Brass guard, knuckle bow, and back strap have beautiful untouched patina. Original WWII or Earlier Japanese Wakazashi Sword Mounting Offered herein is an original(not reproduction) WWII Mounting(however may be or earlier vintage) sword mounting(handle) which was acquired along with a collection of original japanese swords. The mounting consists of a Tsuka(Handle) of approximate 6-1/8" in length. It has a very fine buttcap(Kashira) with pleasing mustard colored patina. Menuki(ornaments) on either side of handle held in by Ito(braid) which is intact and tight. Original rayskin(Same' under braid and in upper part of Tsuka is what appears to be an ivory beaded ornament. WWII Japanese Yoshitake Sword
This item up for auction is a WWII Japanese sword brought to the US by my great uncle on his return trip from Japan. He said he traded his sidearm for it with a Japanese soldier. The scabbard is missing all of the embellishments that came on this set and the handle of the blade is also missing a few of the items that originally came with it. The blade is in fantastic shape based on others of the like I have seen on eBay. The are two almost pin-sized bites in the blade(pictured) The blade is dirty but it all is surface dirt. I just don't want to clean it and damage the integrity of the sword. The blade is quite sharp and I can't really see or feel any divots. The blade is made by a sword smith by the name of Yoshitake(translated by a knowledgeable fellow EBayer) This is an amazing piece of history. Japanese Army Type 32 Cavalry Sword with Matching Scabbard
Japanese Army Type 32 Cavalry Sword Model 1899 was used in Russo-Japanese War. WWI, and WWII. Serial number on the blade matches the serial number on the scabbard. You can clearly see this sword has been used during the war and the condition reflects that. This isn't a safe queen, but is a very nice and sought after collectible piece. Original and nice WWII Japanese Army Officers Wakizashi size Shin-Gunto Sword and Scabbard. This sword is rare in that it was manufactured with a traditionally made wakizashi size blade. Handle. Tsuba, habaki, and seppa fittings are original to the sword, all fittings including the tsuba are numbered"99" and remain in excellent condition. The blade remains in nice condition, cutting edge measures 21 inches in length, has only a few virtually un-noticeable nail snaggers, and its hamon is visible along the cutting edge. The tang is not signed. Scabbard is original to the sword, is un-dented, and remains in excellent condition. This scabbard was positively made for this sword as no other sword would fit, and really the only defect if you want to call it one is the scabbard lock is not working. The total length of the sword in the scabbard ... moreis 39 inches overall. This sword is rarer variation of the standard WWII Japanese Army Officers Shin-Gunto Sword and it remains in very high condition.
