You are viewing a sweet Chinese hand-carved intricate faux ivory/bone puzzle ball from China. My client purchased it in China when she was in the diplomatic service there. I do not know how many layers of carvings are in this ball(I am guessing four. But not sure) It is very good condition, with the exception of 2 small chips on the little feet at bottom of stand(you can see one of them in pictures) Ball and stand are 5" high. Based on this, design& colors used, as well as family information- I believe these pieces were made in the mid 1920's to early 1930's. Antique Seal Pup Figure Ivory Celluloid Carved Figural Native
Hand made. Hand signed. It feels like a polished ivory cue ball, and looks like quality celluloid. It taps like a domino. It researches like cast polyester resin, Lucite(acrylic) or even Bakelite(not tested) There are no lines or holes or bubbles. The body is opaque, and the very tips of the feet and nose are translucent. It is solid, not hollow, and sinks to the bottom of a bucket of water, nose down, feet up. It weighs 2.4oz, about the weight of a roll of nickels. It is finely crafted and beautifully detailed in a muted way. Even the eyes are delicately hollowed to perfection. Also. I also noticed that when I set the piece down it rocked smoothly back and forth with no wobbling. It’s really wonderful! I’m aware of Inuit items. But not educated. I can’t find anything to support that this was crafted by Inuit, but it sure has possibilities ... morefor something. Other than just being a nice work of art. It feels so comfortable and smooth in the hand that it reminds me of a worry stone, but there is no indication whatsoever that it was ever used in this way. The overall condition is excellent. There are some miniscule chips(on the flipper ends) and only minor surface scratches. It looks like it has been picked up and put down many times over the years. Up for purchase is a beautiful. Giant gem quality piece(116 gram) of super rare. Untreated amber from the region of Pulau Punjung(Punjung Island) West Sumatra(Sumatera) Indonesia that has a beautiful ivory violet color. Note the ivory colored regions that are most likely a result of the amber being heated before fossilizing. This material is associated with coal mining, dated to Miocene epoch in age(around 15 million years old) and supply is very limited of this quality. The piece is fully polished to show the true color. Please note that this material is much more rare than Dominican blue amber and. For now, price is much lower. All pictures were taken under natural sunlight. No color enhancements. Indonesian amber is a beautiful. All-natural amber from fossil trees that exhibits a rich range of colors. Western Sumatran(Pulau Punjung) Indonesian ... moreamber is a recent find. This amber possesses a beautiful, deep blue color that sometimes can appear as violet(purple) I also offer blue and green amber from other areas of Indonesia. The color rivals that of the finest Dominican and Chiapas(Mexican) blue amber. The coloration can be so intense that it can be seen even in dim sunlight. The color appears best when light is shining on rather than through the piece and is due to the natural. Untreated, chemical fluorescent properties of the amber. It was mined from the earth in the Indonesian province of Sumatra or Sumatera(western region) No treatment of any kind was done to this to enhance the color. The known quantity of this material is considerably less than that of Dominican blue amber. I may also have pieces of West Kalimantan Borneo Blue amber. Sulawesi Blue amber, and West Papua Blue amber for sale which exhibits a unique blue sometimes violet color also. This GREAT MINIATURE CANTEEN is NEAR PERFECT IN ALL ASPECTS. Being only 4 1/4" in size. The SURFACE is an old brown stain. The CONDITION is NEAR PERFECT with only one small tight age line. This GREAT RUM KEG OR RUNDLET is made of Native Walnut and Maple. This type of canteen was carried by Revolutionary War Soldiers and Officers to carry their daily allotment of"RUM" These types of canteens were made from a hollowed and lathe-turned log with the insertion of flat ends. This great canteen conforms to the description above. For a similar example see the above book"Collectors Illustrated Encyclopedia ... moreof the American Revolution" by Neumann and Kravic. Page 62, as shown in photo#18. This canteen is highly decorated with incised lines. This is one of the smallest rundlets I have seen. The size is extremely rare. It also has a very rare two spout syatem. Both still retain their original ivory plugs. Also. One side completely spins. We have never seen this feature before. This great tankard came from an old Revolutionary War collection from upstate New York. It is only 2 1/2" tall and 4 1/4" across. Typical wear and imperfections with age.
