Imari For sale is a very nice vintage Imari wall plate that has a plate hanger attached. Decorated with a typical Imari pattern to the outer part. It features a central panel with a vase and flowers. Condition wise it is very good with only a relatively small amount of wear and pitting in the glaze in places. To the rear the plate hanger is still present but is getting very old itself and getting stiff. Please see the pictures to assess further(white marks are caused by the flash) It measures approximately 21cm across. There are no makers marks to the underside unless they are under the hanger. The medium bowl is approx. 7 1/2" across x 2 1/2" tall. The small bowl is approx. 5" across x 1 1/2 tall. The bowls have a scallop brown rim and are very ornately decorated. This vibrant and well hand decorated charger enjoys the usual Imari colours, with underglaze blue and overglaze enamels with gold highlights. The charger is decorated with a large blue and white centre panel and three large panels to the rim, all depicting Japanese garden landscapes. Further stylized and geometric patterns. This important Japanese“red-cornered” makie lacquer document box(sumiaka ryoshibako” dates to the Edo period. Ca. 1800. All sides of this large, covered, rectangular box are wrapped in coarse red cloth which had been covered in red lacquer. A high-domed cover and all side panels are decorated with gold lacquer mulberry leaf and falcon feather clan crests(kamon) in gold makie on a black lacquer ground. In ancient times, mulberry leaf paper was used to make offering receptacles or paper clothing offerings to place before the gods at Shinto ... moreshrines. The paper gohei strips still hung at shrines today are believed to represent the latter offering. Heian Era nobility used mulberry leaves to write poems, and the Grand Sumo Shrine adopted it as its emblem, with parishioners following suit to obtain its protection. The falcon was esteemed for its fierce, combative spirit not only by the warrior class, but also by the emperors themselves. Even in the Heian period, the court bureaucracy included an office of falconry. Several prestigious shrines, including Higo and Aso used the falcon feather as their emblem, and clans who later adopted it as their family crest benefited from this religious connotation. Side panels have two heart-shaped boar’s eye apertures(inome) a Buddhist-inspired theme found on samurai armor and invoking unswerving bravery and determination. As it was believed that wild boars could run only in straight lines. The deep, overhanging lid lifts to reveal an interior finished in black roiro lacquer, and the base is also finished in plain black lacquer with a red felt liner. Up for sale is the following: ONE(1) Large Vintage Heavily Gilt Polychrome Enamel Japanese Porcelain Sleeping Cat in Satsuma Style. Yes. The cat is BIG! It is over 1 foot long and weights over 5 lb. I bought this wonderful Japanese artwork many years ago in London. At the time I was on a business trip in U.K. And on that day I stopped by a local antique shop on my way back to my hotel. The owner was a very nice guy, but after 10 minutes in the shop I simply did not find anything interesting to buy. I was about to leave, and then I saw an object on the floor right ... morenext to the exit door. I asked the owner: What is that? He said: That is a doorstop. I picked it up and said: Well, it looks like a cat to me. The owner answered: Yes. It is a cat-shape doorstop. Of course I asked him if he would sell it. Of course he said yes. And of course we completed the transaction at a price I will never tell anyone about. The doorstop of a British store is. In reality, a fine sample of Japanese porcelain craftsmanship. The shape of the porcelain cat is modeled after Nemuri Neko(the Peacefully Sleeping Cat) A famous wood carving by Hidari Jingoro(左甚五郎の作) located in the East corridor at Tosho-gu Shrine(日光東照宮) in Nikko, Japan. And the style of the porcelain cat is the famous Japanese Satsuma style with abundant moriage(beads" on the porcelain surface) rich gilt(gold) and hand-painted enamel on creamy-color crackle glaze. And there is more. If you take a closer look on the back of the cat. You can clearly see an Japanese style drawing painted mostly in gold. In it are three female figures within a garden setting. Mason's patent ironstone China covered serving dish. Condition of both dish and lid is perfect. The pattern is a well known tale involving the figures shown on the platter. The house, the bridge and the boat. 1 1inches diameter x 6 inches high to top of cover. T he maker's marking on the bottom of the dish and the inside of the cover dates it exactly to the period 18 30-18 48. This is Mark 12 and was a transfer printed black crown. Note the change in crown shape to angular.

Spectacular Royal Crown Derby Candlesticks in Imari!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here we have a Stunning set of Candlesticks by Royal Crown Derby in the Imari Pattern! The Candlesticks are 10" high and are3 1/4" across the top and are 5" across the bottom. There has been some Restoration to the very top cups but you would have to look very close to see anything. There are 4 dolphins on the base of each Candlestick.
