Atlas Cup and Saucer Traditional Cobalt Rust Imari
This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of history with this amazing survivor. The saucer is a huge 6 inches across. Cup is 4 inches across and stands 2. 1/2 inches tall. In as perfect condition as you'd like. Pop open the pictures and enlarge them to see the great condition of both pieces. Marked on the bottoms with the man carrying the globe and Atlas China Made England 1911 4 Below is an editorial on this company. One company is David Chapman& Sons of the Atlas Works. Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire- founded 1889 and continued only until 1906. The other is Chapmans Longton Ltd of Albert Works, Longton which was established in 1916 and continues through to modern times with their'Standard' pottery mark amongst others(see article here: Godden says D. Chapman& Son continued until 1906 when it's name was ... morechanged to Atlas China Co Ltd. Prior to that there was a shift of name in 1904 to"Chapman& Sons(Stoke-on-Trent) Ltd. After 1906 Goddens says it has records of the Atlas pottery mark(man with globe on his back) being used until 1910 on tableware and then also on'The Atlas Tile Works' of Vine Street. Hanley 1907-1920. There is no mention of the pottery mark being transferred to Grimwades/ Winton. In a separate entry it lists'Atlas' as being a pottery mark associated with Grimwades/ Winton. Here it starts to become slightly murky and smokey because when you cross reference the Grimwades/ Winton entry. You see only one mark for'Atlas' dating from 1934 to 1939- and it is not the classic'man with globe on his back' The mark shown is a kind of art nouveau cursive circular script saying'Atlas' on the top and'bone china England' underneath. Our items are used and a piece of vintage collectible and will show age. The finish will not be as perfect as a brand new item and very old pieces of china could have crazing. As you would expect. The colors are rich and vibrant, the gold is intact, and the porcelain is beautiful with no crazing. The creamer looks like new, with no chips, cracks or flea-bites. It was made during the Chien Lung period(1736 to 1795) It has lovely decoration on the front of flowers on a verandah embellished with gold. There is also floral decoration around the rim. The condition is perfect and original. There are no cracks. Chips or scratches or restoration. However there are a few minute nibbles on the footrim from where the plate was taken out of the kiln during manufacture. The diameter of this beautiful plate is 23.5 cm. 18th/ 19th century antique chinese Kangxi plate blue white and red. You are looking at what I believe to be a 18th chinese export porcelain kangxi plate. I am not an expert and very much trying to learn, however this plate had been very finely painted in blue underglaze, with a butterfly flowers and bamboo in a fenced garden, then other colours applied, which could have years later! The reverse undecorated. And unmarked. Apart from the number 2397 in the inside rim. possibly the sign of Chinese export ware.there are a few chips around the rim and foot, but nothing serious, and Isabel from the front. Antiuqe 19th c. Japanese Imari Fish dish and Octagon Dragon and Phoenix Dish
You are bidding on a pair of Japanese Imari dishes. One in the form a fish that measures 9 1/4" long by 7 3/4" wide and in good condition. The other octagon dish or plate measures 11 1/2' wide and is in good condtion with only a small chip to the back. I think these date to the late 19th century. But i will let the bidder decide on age. They do show age and some surface wear.
