Vintage Ashworth & Masons Imari Dragon Plate, C 1910
Up for Auction is a fine Ashworth Imari dinner plate done in the Imari palette and Imari Dragon design.Ashworth bought the Masons designs and moulds in 1862 from the Masons Potteries and continued producing superb porcelains from the mid 19th Century to the Edwardian era and into the early Twentieth Century. The dinner plate measures 10& 1/4 inches and displays the bold colors that are the classic Imari palette-rust red. Burnt orange and deep green. The plate bears an Ashworth stamp and an"A 10" impressed dating the plate to 1910( the Edwarian era) and is without chips. Cracks or restoration. The bold enamels of the plate are in good shape with a minor paint loss in the well of the plate commensurate with the plate's 100+ plus age. The bowl is beautifully hand painted in rust red, cobalt blue, light green and some very light peach, it's a very colorful piece. There is great hand-gilding work inside and out. The interior has panels depicting a dragon in stylized clouds. The exterior is ornately decorated as well. The bowl is in great condition. It rings beautifully when tapped. From a local estate is this finely decorated 19th century English porcelain teabowl in the Imari pattern. It is marked on the back with a Derby-like painted mark which is shown in the Royal Crown Derby book by John Twitchett and Betty Bailey(page 214) as belonging to Stevenson& Hancock(1863– 1866) or Sampson Hancock(1866– 1935) Since the word England is not present with the mark. This piece was made before 1891 and is therefore 19th century. The diameter of the bowl is 4 ¾” and the height of the bowl is 1” Condition: very good with no problems noted. 130 YEAR OLD JAPANESE ANTIQUE MULTI-COLOR IMARI CERAMIC BOWL
This is an aka imari( multicolored) ceramic bowl made in the early Meiji period. It dates to about 1880. And was used to serve a main dish. It has very ellaborate multi-color and gold art work in the form of a village scenic with men about in boat. The center has a stylized pomegranate fruit(see picture 8) The bottom has an unglazed rim used as kiln footing so that the outer rim can be glazed. This unglazed area was known as a"fish eye" and was used extensively during the Meiji an Edo Eras. It measures 6" across by 2" tall(15 x 5 cm) There is one small hairline which can be seen on the outside(see picture 10) but cannot be seen on the inside. There is also some kiln ash(common to Edo Era pieces baked in wood fired kilns) seen in picture 11. This is a gorgeous antique Imari handpainted urn. It measures approximately 10 1/4 inches tall and displays beautifully. Only flaws I can find are gold gilt wear.
