I'm not exactly sure what this is but it's very heavy and must be copper or brass because a magnet doesn't stick to it and it has both an orangey tone and a brassy color to it as well as a dark greyish. I thought maybe it was from an old fire station. Also occurred to me that it might be from a ship as it's heavy and feels solid. As though it's meant to be someplace where it won't tip over. A magnet does not stick to any part of it- even the parts where what looks like the overlay has come off. I thought maybe it was iron underneath but magnet doesn't stick to that either. It has two loops about 3" in diameter that are bolted on- a magnet doesn't even stick to the bolts. It stands 10" tall and the base is 4 1/2" across. The cylinder body is about 2 1/2" across. This is a rare fine art quality copper tray souvenir from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. I have not been able to locate another example like this. The tray features decorations of a griffin surrounded by stylized grapevine decorations and the words" Souvenir World's Fair Chicago 1933" This is made of heavy. Thick copper, the decorations seem more English in character, but this is likely an American made piece, probably offered by one of the metal ware/ copper exhibitor displays at the fair. It measures 13 3/4" from handle to handle, 11 7/8" x 9 3/4" at the main body, about 1 1/2" tall at the handles. This is in very good condition overall. But it does have some wear and light damage. There are some spots of remaining tarnish, including darkened spots and several faint water spots, it had a lacquer finish ... moreat one point but nearly all of it is gone save for a few small spots on the back. This remaining tarnish should be removeable with a more thorough polishing. This has light scratches all over, and a few heavier scratches in some places, most of which are located on the backside. Several small dents on the edges of the handles. Sits a bit unevenly on flat surfaces(see last photo)

As you can see by the pictures the binding is shot and there are water marks and other issues. I can find no other record of this book. It appears to be complete. Each poem matches up with a black and white drawing of a woman that is in some way mentioned in the poem. There is no date of publishing but I think that it was published in the 1800s. All the poems and pictures listed in the Contents and Illustrations are there. The blank separating pages are also there. The pages have the remains of gold edging. It was made at the Moritz Zdekauer factory in Altrohlau Bohemia between 1884-1909. The scalloped edge is gold gilded. The bowl is a pale green/yellow with pretty purple flowers with hand painting. It measures 10-3/4" across x 3-1/8" high. It is marked"MZ Austria with the Austrian Imperial Griffin logo- Hapsburg. Crown, BTC shield. Also has incised numbers and alpha/numeric writing. A rare and interesting discovery offered at a very low starting bid! Here we have a small bronze statue of a winged lion holding a sword atop a book. On the square marble base in a brass plaque inscribed: PRESENTED BY ADMIRAL CHARLES D. GRIFFIN U.S. NAVY COMMANDER IN CHIEF ALLIED FORCES SOUTERN EUROPE. Most likely the admiral gifted tokens like this to dignitaries or people in his command. The statue. Is a heavy, non-ferrous metal which appears to be bronze and the base is a rectilinear piece of white marble. It stands 4" tall, and measures 3" X 5-1/2" It weighs about 1.5 lbs. Other than minor age wear, there is no damage and no evidence of repairs. I don't believe it has any particular function other than a memento from the admiral. Admiral Griffin a had an illustrious 40 year career in the navy.
