Scammell Southern Pacific RR Blue Griffin Grill Plate B Up for your consideration is a very beautiful and hard to find 10-3/4' Scammell's Lamberton Griffon Pattern divided dinner plate that the Southern Pacific Railroad used on their passenger train called the Sunset Limited. This plate has the Scammell's Lamberton China backstamp in blue circa 1920s-1930s. The plate is extremely heavy and very thick. This plate is in good condition with light wear. Stacking wear on the sections and Firing furniture stilt marks on back. It has a factory glaze bubble pop on one of the divided sections(2:00 position) Identification of this pattern can be found at this The plate features blue mythical Griffin birds/ animals(very similar to the Santa Fe Griffins) with what resembles a Greek God or mythical bearded man’s face in the center above the ... moretwo Griffins. The rest of the artwork is grapes on vines. Floral arrangements, and ivy. The outer border contains additional griffins that really add to the appearance of the plate. This light blue almost flow-blue pattern has been documented as authentically used aboard the Southern Pacific Café Grill Cars of the Sunset Limited. Shards and actual china plates have been located by very well known and highly respected railroad collectors and authors. Which have documented this pattern's usage along the Sunset Limited Route, which further attest to this pattern being used. The pattern was just recently discovered in 2005, and will not be in any of the prior railroad and restaurant china books that were published in the 1990s. The plate is not a souvenir; rather, it is the heavyweight type Steamship, Hotel, and Restaurant type china. This early DI differs from the description of 63G in the ASMIC Infantry Catalog. Condition is very good plus. This is one of a collection of 600 DIs that I acquired several years ago. They were all meticulously mounted and spaced on a large framed board. Each location for the more than 560 screw back DIs was counterbored to accommodate the nut. This collection was put together in the 1930s. And after over 70 years of exposure a thin layer of grime has developed. As a result, the colors do not appear as true or bright as they would if cleaned. I pack items on Wednesdays for shipment on Thursdays. If you'd like your item shipped right away. 9 Piece Lot of Civil War Pins Buttons Eagle Star Griffin 13 and More
Welcome to my auction. I purchased this nine piece lot last summer from a local weekly flea market. The seller didn't seem to know much about them as she had a lot of different types of items- mostly jewelry. Unfortunately. I know nothing about them either, but I thought they looked very interesting and old. I believe that some of the pieces date back to the Civil War as the eagle has a patent date of 1886. I'm not sure of the age of the rest of the pieces, but I think they have quite a bit of age to them too. The work on them is wonderful. The detail on the five pointed star is incredible- even on the back. That particu lar piece seems to be a small token of some kind- not a pin. I do have to mention that they do show age as there is some minor discolor and as with the Maltese Cross with the hanging pieces. It is missing a little ... morelink as shown in my picture. The other Maltese Cross had a pin back that is too missing and the blue enamel piece is missing the little piece that screws onto the back.
