Antique Vintage Painted Craftwood Miller French Period Wood Clock w/ Key
Hi. You are looking at a rare Craftwood Miller Clocks French Period clock that has been refurbished and painted. It has been precisely painted and I do not see any flaws in the painting. The front has been painted gold with a green clock face. The numbers and center are painted white and even the eyes at the top are painted red. The back is painted green and I believe the back plate has been painted a different color from the original as well. There is some damage to the maker's plate but it is all readable. There is a loss of paint to the back plate. There are what appear to be cracks throughout but they were simply by design for looks and do not go all the way through. The key winds up the clock properly but it sometimes needs a boost to start up. The minute hand is loose and needs adjusting often. It may need a replacement minute hand. ... moreIt has been wound up multiple times and it seems to function properly otherwise. The slow/fast function seems to work properly as well, though the plate has a large bend across the top so the lever does not fit through the slot properly. A small. Black lacquered, French sewing/ needle work/ thimble box approx. 4.5" x 3" x 1" with a hinged lid. Decorated with flowers on the lid, there is also a shield and banner on the left hand corner of the lid. The shield also incorporates a thimble(please see photo) The wording on the banner reads: FLVCTVAT NEC MERCITVR" which I is Latin and translates to"IT FLOATS& DOES NOT SINK" and is the motto for Paris, France. The fact that the shield also incorporates a thimble along with the ship could mean that it was part of a thimble or sewing guild and that the box probably dates to somewhere between 1870 and 1890. The shield is actually the symbol for Paris. Dating back to the days of the powerful guilds. To open the box you depress the small button on the front and it unlocks. Canada, I believe the wood used to be maple since the company was very famous for using this type of wood. Made in the 60s and 70s, this beautiful bread box is 40-50 years old. It has been made with sturdy craftsmanship and is very solid and heavy. It has the original small shelf inset into the sides. The word"Bread" is in English and French on the front of the door, and the company's mark is clear on the back panel. There are two pieces of tape over part of the closing mechanism; I did not try to remove them for fear of damaging the wood. It has an odd waxy odour inside the box so I will put baking soda inside and open the door to air it out. The bread box still has beautiful ... morecolour and graining, and doesn't show a lot of wear except on the inside of the door which looks like it was used as a bread cutting-board. You can't see it when it is closed. Please look very carefully at the pictures as these are part of the description. It weighs over 10lbs. without packing material and box. So I won't have an exact weight until I take it to the post office as my little scale maxes at 10lbs. I used my bathroom scale for an estimate.
