OUTSTANDING JERRY MATZEN PIKE~FOLK ART FISH SPEARING DECOY~LISTED MN CARVER
This auction is for a super collectible fish spearing decoy that was made by Jerry Matzen. Jerry's work is included in the reference books"The Fish Decoy. Volume 3" and"Fish Decoy Makers Past and Present" We have not heard anything about Jerry in several years and it is believed he is no longer carving decoys. This doutstanding pike is a real top shelf decoy that was made at the very height of this carver's career. The quality and visual appeal is outstanding. The decoy measures 8 1/4" long and has an open mouth which is loaded with sharp brass teeth. It is finished in a combination of paint techniques including a spotted technique along the back that is similar to that used by Bud Stewart. This great looking Minnesota trout was made by listed fish decoy carver Don Quincer. Quincer decoys are included in the reference book THE FISH DECOY. Here is an antique Tanalan water bottle from Mexico. It is a burnished/polished clay in a warm gray foundation. The overall folk style paintng depicts blue flowers. A blue peacock and a large blue deer, with lateral red crosses down low and arrows around the top of the neck. Another area on the body of the vessle has a large painted cartouche in a red foundation outlined in deep blue with the hand written word"Merseditas" in a late 19th century style quill pen signature(some fading- but fully readable) On the bottom there is a distinct index finger print in the center of the bottle. Large Vintage 1920s FOLK ART Metal GIRL IN GARDEN WATERING Weathervane
Description ANTIQUE/VINTAGE GARDEN GIRL WEATHERVANE Charming vintage metal silhouette style weather vane measuring 19-1/4" long and almost 9" tall. Featuring a woman in bonnet and period clothing holding a huge watering can with long spout- stylized water pours though the head and quenches several blooming flowers. Metal appears to be either brass or copper- it has a dark patina from age. And it's hard to tell- vane is sturdy and non-pliable- cut outs are mounted into a rather crudely rolled tube base that is held together by three screws- there is a hole in the tube middle bottom for mounting on a vertical stand(no longer present) small holes are pierced in the flower heads and on top of the bonnet. I believe this is a home project, made circa 1920- condition is very good with no bends, breaks or damage other than normal patina ... moreto the metal and although it appears as if a side is missing from one flower, it was made that way- edges are all smooth from age. Just a charming large silhouette image of a woman in her garden- purchased in Ohio, I've had it hanging on the wall for years, but it could easily be mounted for display as a weather vane. This is an old cast iron Chicken weathervane or yard ornament with great patina. The chicken itself is 10x10 and overall 17" tall with the iron stick. This came from an old Iowa estate. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE FOLK ART WOODEN SWAN WEATHERVANE ORIGINAL PAINT AAFA
Freshly found. This wonderful swan or hissing goose folk art weathervane has a fabulous, strong presentation in its folky form. Measuring approximately 39” in total length by 11” wide at the widest and about one inch thick, I believe it hails from the first quarter of the 20 th century. The old repairs along the wing and the base appear to have been put in to stabilize cracks that had begun. But not travelled. The neck either had been a separate piece, or had sheared off at some point as it too, has the old pinned repairs. It does fit well when pushed in place but still wobbles, and will need reinforcement along the old pin shadows that have fallen out to make him fully secure again. I’ve left him as shown to show where the old pins had attached. Very, very cool form. Vintage 1991 Folk Art Wood Carving Wall Plaque Eskimo Child Signed Penti Alaska I’m still listing some items from last week’s estate sale and auction. And I had wonderful luck at this weekend’s flea market- some really really unique items, you don’t want to miss! Well. This wonderful piece of original hand carved wood folk art HAD its complete tag when I purchased it at the flea market- but somehow- between there and home, it broke off- leaving not much to tell the story. What I do remember is that it said that it was made in Alaska- and the signature of the artist is carved into the wood at the back- it reads, Penti 1991. It's a sweet carved image of an Eskimo child, and there's a loop on the backside for hanging on the wall. Measuring 6 1/2" diameter, it is 3/4" thick, and is in excellent solid and sturdy condition. There's ... moresome wear to the finish and the wood- scratches, scrapes, dings, dark spots and light spots. It also shows some soile and dirt from hanging around all these years- all giving it a rustic primitive charm. No other issues- this one is lovely and sweet. Please ask if you have any questions. Primitive folk art 1850's Antique Wooden Mortar with handle
Wonderful 19th century primitively decorated wooden mortar. Obviously made out of 1 piece of wood. The mortar is quite roughly made. The wooden mortar which stands 6.2 inches tall(15cm) and measures 4 inches(10 cm) across at the top is decorated with a primitive banding in the middle.This mortar has a handle which you don't see very often. It is definitely a mortar though and not a drinking vessel. You can tell by the shape of the bowl on the inside.There is no pestle with the mortar.
