And the story of Moroccan weaving begins with the Berbers, the indigenous people of North Africa who had inhabited Morocco for centuries before the first Arab invasion in the seventh century. Today. The major weaving groups of the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountains are Berber tribes, many of whom still live much as they did centuries earlier. While remarkably diverse. Moroccan flatwoven and knotted pile rugs are almost without exception bold in color and lively in pattern. Designs are made up of geometric motifs arranged in seemingly endless variations. Each tribe has its own distinct repertoire of designs and colors significant to the ceremonial and day to day life of the group. These same patterns can be seen in the art forms relating to other areas of tribal life such as in ceramics, architectural decoration, and tattoos worn by Berber women. Although a weaver draws from the vocabulary of designs particular to her tribe, she works at her loom without a diagram or pattern to guide her. As a result, each rug is a unique creation, a celebration both of her tribal identity and her own artistic imagination. The square seat and back are made of black padded leatherette. The vertical ebonised feet contrast beautifully with the horizontal chrome tubular structure. And all is held together with the signature broad and stylish chrome screws. The tubular structure is made of chrome metal struts whilst the vertical squared feet are made of ash wood and lacquered black. The chair is very comfortable, elegant and stylishly low slung. ... moreIt would complement beautifully a modernist interior. It is possible to disassemble the chair. The original Arkana logo and patent are embossed to the underside and read as follows: Arkana(Bath) England Made in Great Britain Patent Applied for Registered Design 924.933 and 924.934" The chair is in good vintage condition. There are a few age and use related marks. The chrome has flaked off in places. Revealing a slightly yellowish undercoat of chrome(see pictures) the leatherette is in very good overall condition despite a minute 3mm diameter pinpoint loss on the seat, a slight 11cm-long scratch on the backrest, and a tear(3.5 cm long and 2.5 cm long) at the back of the backrest that has been professionally repaired(see pictures) The ebonised finish on the feet has suffered scruffs and scratches and the latter have been professionally restored(see pictures) However. In my personal opinion, the aforementioned does not interfere with the overall look of the piece. Please note that the chair will be shipped disassembled and flat packed. Please note that. In very good condition considering it is 60 years old. Still has the paper that was on when originally given to my mother. There is a little rust on the feet but no rust I can see on the frame. Item: label on bottom reads“RANDSFJORDGLASS. Made in Norway. HANDBLOWN. I believe this to be made in the 1950’s. This plate reflects light beautifully. Creating changing, abstract patterns. Size: 2 ¼” tall and 17 7/8” across top Condition: excellent– no chips or cracks. This is a handcrafted piece. So there are some variances from a machine-made product as follow- There is a small. Raised bump in the glass about ½” long near the rim. The top rim and the base are not quite parallel– mostly noticeable when looked at directly in profile. There is a dull streak starting about 1/8” wide and tapering off to nothing over a length of about 3” 2 ½” from ... morethe edge of the rim. Lot of Two Vintage CHARLES EAMES Herman Miller ORANGE Fiberglass Side Chairs Shell DIMENSIONS 18 1/2" wide. 17 1/2" tall and 19 1/2" deep. DESCRIPTION Orange Fiberglass shell side chairs. Designed by Charles Eames for Herman Miller. Signed(see photos) No bases are included with these shells. One chair are in good condition except for a few minor scratches and small chip on top and side of chair. The other chair is faded and has a minor- barely noticeable chip on the top corner. But still otherwise good condition. Both are solid chairs despite the fading and minor issues. One has the original patent sticker but is so faded it is now just a white label, the other one has residue from where the sticker had been. Both are stamped/embossed with the Herman Miller name and Logo, the Letter'S' in a circle and the letter'B' ... moreas well. These pictures are part of the detailed description so please review them carefully before purchasing. This chair has the"wide mount" shock mount configuration. And can be used with original stacking"scholastic" bases, or with modern reproduction wide mount bases. Shock mounts and and screws are included. Payment is due within 5 days of purchasing.
