This is a liquor jug from the Morris Salzman Company dating to the early 1900s. The following information came from the pre-pro.com website(which offers lots of information about pre-prohibition distillery advertising) Est. 1885. Morris Salzman was originally in business with Siegelman and together they owned the Empire Distillery. Their store was at 417 6th Ave(New York) from at least 1902 to 1904. Siegelman left the partnership and set up his own business in 1904. By 1906. Morris Salzman& Co. are shown at 248 3rd Ave and stayed there until at least 1915. The following account is from a great grandson of Morris Salzman: Morris came to this country from Austria in the late 1800s. He was 16 years old. Could speak no English and came alone. He settled in NYC's Lower East Side. By the 1910s he had amassed a small fortune in the liquor ... morebusiness. I have seen a newspaper article saying he stood in the back of a crowded Brooklyn, NY theater where people were buying War Bonds(WW1) People were buying small lots.10's and hundreds of $. Here's a neat turn-of-the-century food crock in a larger size: it's 11 1/2" to the top of the wire. And 6 1/2" across the bottom. The Sexton Co. is well known in Chicago. From Wikipedia: John Sexton came to Chicago in 1877. And after a few years working as a clerk in a couple of grocery and dry goods stores in the city. Took his entire life savings of $400 and ventured out on his own. By 1913, Sexton& Co. was one of the largest wholesale food suppliers in the country. The company provided canned and dry goods products to restaurants, hotels, schools and commercial kitchens. Mr. Sexton invented the#10 can. Still used in restaurants today, and the Sexton Co. is still essentially in business, having merged over the years with other companies. Large stoneware jug in overall wonderful vintage condition. Showing wear commensurate to age. Jug is not marked. But it does have a cobalt blue pattern going around the top, and on the applied handle. There are a few repaired areas. That appear to have been plugged. Just below the opening. There is an incised ring pattern, as seen in picture#8. The jug has a hairline. But we don't think it goes through the jug(see picture#7) Chip present on the bottom edge(see pictures#10& 11) NOTE: We have lightly dry dusted the jug. But have done no major cleaning. The jug was stored somewhere at one time where someone was painting, and there may be a few small paint ... moredots that were missed during our cleaning, as well as some light soiling. This is an antique primitive beehive crock jug that belonged to my Mom. It appears to be very old but does not have any markings on the bottom. The handle is bent. But appears to be the original handle. There are a few spots where the glaze did not stick to the crock when it was glazed. There is a dark spot near the top of the jug. There are also a few chips around the top and bottom edges. The jug is about 10 1/2" tall and 25" around at the widest point. PayPal only please. Ceramic, under-glaze transferred toothpaste container featuring an art nouveau motif on a Greek ke y design platform(see pic.3) This lid dates to ca.1900.right in the middle of the art nouveau period which is considered to be between 1890-1914 and was characterized by. Wisconsin Porcelain Company of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin(1919 to Present) 100% True Heavy Porcelain, American Art Pottery, Crock-Jar and Lid with a Brown Speckled and Mottled Gloss Beige Glaze Application along with Gold Trim in"Near-Mint" Used Condition, Circa 1930s to 1970s(or Possibly Later) which was Manufactured for an Unknown Purpose or Client at the time of this listing. This superb heavy porcelain crock-jar has no chips. Cracks, glaze crazing, scratches, scuffs, stains, repairs or factory flaws of any kind. I've graded its condition as being"Near-Mint" because when you look at the gold trim which was only applied to the lid you will see some tiny specks where some of the gold is either thin or worn away. You can see this close up by using the"Super Size" and"Zoom" ... morefeatures I've provided and you'll also see the worn gold isn't that noticeable. It really doesnt' hurt the aesthetic value of this fine crock, but it must be pointed out for accuracy sake. This jar measures about 3 3/8 inches tall with the lid on and without the lid it measures about 3 inches tall. Across the top it measures about 3 3/4 inches in diameter and the inside top opening is about 3 3/8 inches in diameter. The very bottom was left dry without glaze and it's sightly recessed which leaves a 1/2 inch wide ring base for the piece to rest on. The lid for this jar actually hangs over the top ridge so it measures about 4 7/8 inches in diameter and it's about 1 1/8 inches thick. The mark on the bottom is in-mold and it reads"Wisconsin Porcelain Co. within a recessed circle. This crock-jar was made from a true porcelain and it's a heavy porcelain piece weighing just over 2 pounds at exactly 2 pounds. 1.1 ounces. When you weigh the bottom jar section by itself it weighs 1 pound, 4.7 ounces and the lid by itself weighs 12.4 ounces. This piece features an outstanding beige colored glaze which is speckled and a bit mottled to offset the

I found two references that illustrate the larger complete jardiniere and pedestal set; Bob& Sharon Huxford’s 1978, The Collectors Catalog of Brush McCoy Pottery. Page 38, bottom right corner and the same reference– page 18 upper left corner. Both illustrations are original catalog ... moreplates so there is no question about manufacturer. DESCRIPTION. This is a truly beautiful table-top(salesman sample? matched set of blended brown and green. This is only the 2 nd complete set we have seen in our 40+ years collecting Brush-McCoy. The mold on both pieces is sharp. Clear and well defined. The jardiniere’s mold is only slightly sharper than the pedestal but once they are combined the difference is inconsequential and mentioned only for accuracy. The colors are truly breath-taking and finding a matched table-top set is a remarkable discovery! The pedestal is 9 inches tall; the jardiniere is 8 inches tall and the top rim is 8-1/2 inches outside diameter. The jard base doesn’t quite fit completely inside the ped top ring. I suspect there is a bit of extra glaze on the jard base increasing its diameter thus preventing a completely smooth fit as designed. Regardless. The set is beautiful! CONDITION. There are very few of the glaze McFlaws usually associated with early McCoy decorative pottery. I can find no chips. Watt Pottery#80 cheese crock without lid in great condition with no cracks. One chip shown in picture 8 was done before manufacturing as it has been glazed over and the one below it looks more like it rubbed on something after manufacturing. There is light crazing and some pitting that is shown in the last 2 pictures. Measures 5 and 3/4th high and almost 9 inches diameter. This is a great crock and not an easy one to find.
