Up for bid are these two VINTAGE. Ca. 1928, NORDDENTSCHER LLOYD BREMEN OCEAN LINER UNIFORM BRASS BUTTONS, measuring 3/4" in diameter. The Bremen" was German made, launched in 1928, and considered the fastest luxury passenger ship of it's time with turbine engines it could cross the Atlantic in 5 days reaching speeds of 27 knots. In 1939 the German's converted her to a war ship and she caught fire in 1941 and was gutted. Back of one button says"Im Feuri Vergadet" and the other"Extra Fein" Button fronts show ships anchor crossed by a key wrapped in writting Norddentscher Lloyd Bremen. Up for auction is a lot of 6 VINTAGE BRASS WWII U.S. ARMY OFFICERS UNIFORM BUTTONS with the AMERICAN EAGLE SYMBOL by WATERBURY BUTTONS. CO. and SUPERIOR* QUALITY* Each button features regal American eagle with his wings spread and an ornate scalloped piece above his head with stars in the center. Below that are ribbons held in his beak on either side of his head above the wings that reads: E PLURIBIS UNUM" His chest has a striped crest. The wings are extraordinary with great detail work as is the entire piece. His claws represent War and Peace. The right side has an olive branch and the left side a bundle of thirteen arrows. The Olive branch and arrows denote the power of peace& war which is exclusively vested in Congress. These brass buttons are in excellent condition and are highly detailed. Pair of Virginia Buttons- One Civil War- Bermuda Hundred, Other Indian Wars Era
Dug in the vicinity of Bermuda Hundred. Virginia, this is a nice pair of dug two piece Virginia state seal buttons. One dates to the Civil War era, and the other dates to the Indian War period. The button to the left in the photo is the earlier button, and bears the backmark"SCOVILL MFG CO WATERBURY. The other button bears the backmark"WATERBURY BUTTON CO CONN. Both buttons retain their shanks, although the later period button's is slightly bent. Bermuda Hundred was the site of Union General Benjamin Butler's headquarters camp and supply depot during his failed 1864 campaign to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond from the south. These buttons would make an excellent addition to any collection.
