Has some paint loss and flaking here and there with a 1/2" chip at the base shown in the last photo. It is mounted on a wooden base which has some wearing. And scuffing, shown in the photos. Dogon Brass/Bronze Handcast Miniature Door African Additional information: This small door of unknown purpose is cast in bronze(or brass) and with shapes similar to the larger doors used ... moreby the Dogon to secure their granaries. Miniature doors like this one are covered with animal/symbolic motifs commonly used by Dogon artists reflecting religious and mythic beliefs. The Dogon of present day Mali live along the Bandiagara escarpment a range of cliffs approximately 120 miles long and in places up to one thousand feet high. Living in small villages on the plain at the foot of the escarpment the Dogon farm in an environment that is marginal and demanding. As subsistence farmers they depend upon the food they produce to live. Storing it in granaries made of mud with thatched roofs and carved doors providing access to the foodstuffs held in the granary. We used to chime the telegraph whenever a bigger order came in to the company: The telegraph still"chimes like a charm" when you move the handle to a different position. And the sound still reminds me of those days in the office. The height of the telegraph is about 41" When the handle is on top the overall height is about 45.5" In very very good condition no real scratches or dinks. Expected wear and tear for an old ships tool. The only real distress is on the bottom part of the white dial plate between the"full" on the left side and the"full" on the right side" the edges show some corrosion.
