He gazes upon this new life falling in love with its presence by the second. This piece has an biblical feel. Joseph is dressed in heavy garments and bare feet. He appears to be from a simpler time in history. This wonderful piece has a black marble base. It is signed Valli. The lost wax method was used. The process of bringing a bronze sculpture to life using the lost-wax method is something you'll appreciate after taking this tour- Enjoy. Here Artist original clay sculpture is ... morenearly ready for the foundry. Note the artist is still adding the finishing touches. Most sculptors prefer to work with clay or wax; some however. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process. The first step can be shocking for some as they begin to decide how this original will be cut up. In order to prepare the original clay sculpture for molding. It will be dissected by cutting the clay with wire and by cutting the armature with a saw. The armature is what helped support the clay in place while the artist was creating it. Note the registration marks which later in the process will serve to realign the parts. Shown here are the sections of the original clay sculpture after having been dissected. Now the various parts of the original are carefully mounted on clay plugs before the rubber mold material is applied. The clay plug later serves as a pour spout for the mold. As you can see now they begin painting the latex rubber onto the original together with the clay plus that's been added in layers. Notice the shim line that will alter

It will be dissected by cutting the clay with wire and by cutting the armature with a saw. The armature is what helped support the clay in place while the artist was creating it. This old propeller is a nice example. This is an old coral and barnacle encrusted bronze boat propeller that came off of a sunken boat years ago in the Florida Keys. The prop has a nice patina and would look good on the wall in your bar or outside in a Tiki Bar. The prop is 14-1/2 in in diameter and fits a 1 inch keyed shaft. You could clean this prop up and use it but it looks so cool as a wall hanger I wouldn't do that. Prop has a few nicks and chips etc. in it. Prop weighs about 10 pounds so shipping cost is an issue but I think I could ship via UPS for $25.00 or less anywhere in the USA. The obverse also has work scences. And indicates that this was awarded in 1952. The medal has a diameter of 80 mm and weighs 244 grams. The edge contains the word bronze, along with the appropriate French hallmark. F3149) Paul Landowski was born in 1875. He won the First grand prize in sculpture in 1900 in Rome. Bronze nails of all sizes were made from a single piece of bronze by the Roman legion's blacksmiths in their workshop(fabrica) by smelting the bronze and forming the nails by hand. Producing a square tapered nail with a large head. The larger nails were used to hold the wooden stockade around the fort in place. They were also used to bind the timber roofing of the fort buildings and ships, or used to support the huge wooden City Gates. The blacksmith would cut off a nail length and hammer all four sides of the softened end to form a point. This ring features a 14mm x 14mm rounded-octagon bezel. The bezel has a nicely carved"Star-Cross" on it. The Star-Cross was a very early spiritual symbol and in later years was worked into and adopted by the Christians of Rome as their symbol. That the cross at the center is formed of 4 engraved"swords" These more detailed crosses are HIGHLY desirable and this is one of the best examples that I have seen in quite some time. The band's finish is mirror smooth as you can tell from my picture above. It was quite common for Roman soldier's to build up quite a little cache of"liberated" jewelry which they would use as a form of currency for their favorite activities.
