This is a really nice four door quartersawn oak bookcase-2 glass doors and 2 blind doors. When I original purchased this cabinet I thought it was a Danner sliding door bookcase. I am not so sure of that. May have been made by another company(Globe) but has the same type operation. Two doors on each stackable section slide back and forth. Adjustable shelf in each section. We have refinished this piece and it is in excellent condition with a smooth and even finish. Original wavy glass and also note the brass handles-rather Arts& Crafts style I would say. Also from the same estate I purchase an almost identical unit but it has four glass doors, two on each section-my stock number 14477. Circa 1875. This absolutely magnificent piece is made out of beautiful walnut and Carpathian elm burl; the wood is just gorgeous. One will first notice the width to height ratio is very symmetrical. This piece is taller than most.The Roman arched doors below and above bring both parts together in flowing harmony unlike similar secretaries that have drawers below or worse a door and drawers. The Carpathian elm burl panels lend nice contrast to the darker walnut surrounding. The wavy glass is original to the piece as is the finish which has been waxed to a mellow sheen. The cylinder roll moves good ... moreand upon opening has a pull out writing slide with original surface. The fitted interior has small drawers and several open slots. The bookcase has original shelves that are adjustable in position. There are minor restorations that are not obvious however one panel on the left door below has trim that has very slightly misaligned over rime. A pencil signature underneath the bookcase top says SCHULTZ in old writing of the period. Here’s one beautiful fireplace mantle which was removed from a home in Pittsburgh Pa. This old tiger oak mantle is in good vintage condition. Made of quartersawn oak. These barrister bookcase parts include a top, base, and two side pieces. The condition is very good with a bit of thinning of the veneer on the left side of the top. This should be visible in the second picture. We have, also, photographed the top sitting on the base so that you can see they are compatible. This was, probably, Globe Wernicke, however, there is no label to confirm that. The top is 34" wide and 12" deep. The base is 34" wide 12 1/2 inches deep and 6 3/4 inches high. The side pieces each measure 12 3/16" wide X 15 1/16 high.
