The detailed carving of his teeth, hand, feet, necklace and robe are extremely well done. The wood is very dark almost black. There are a few places where there are wood plugs, on on the back of his head and another on his back (I have included photos of this). There are also two paint rubs to the piece (I have also included photos of these) This piece is extremely old and rare. There are small remnants of paint that you can see on the Scepter or Ruyi (Ru yi) that he is holding in his right hand. The Ruyi symbolizes power and good fortune.

But one of the weights is missing. The clock measures: 22" tall x 14" across x 9" deep. The wood is in great condition. The trim around the clock is removed and will need a drop of glue to install. The sounds are not as sharp as they should be, probably mostly needs a cleaning. The dancers dance and the cuckoo bird work. The cuckoo comes out on the half hour and the hour. This is a larger cuckoo clock measuring 12 1/2" at the widest point and about 18" tall. The carving on this clock is outstanding! There are 2 owls at the top, a third owl and a bird on either side of the face and 2 baby birds in a nest at the bottom. Also lots of leaves and acorns. I have here a really cool cuckoo clock that needs some TLC! Initially. I was actually drawn to it because of its melted clock. It reminded me of Dali’s artwork. Persistence of Memory. But I also just like cuckoo clocks and always try to rescue them if I can. You get the case, including the rear door, with the Schatz 8 day logo on the front, the wooden dial is missing some numerals, the bottom chain holes have been redrilled possibly to accomodate a newer movement, and their is some oxidation to the case body, The upper frame is in nice condition, no splits, or cracks, just a couple of tiny paint chips along the edges. The clock mechanism works when I pull on the chain, but I have to pull harder than the weight, so it probably needs cleaning/oiling. Up for your consideration today is a very nice rare Black Forest Cuckoo Clock. Unusual case with bird and maple leaf design. Colorful and in good working condition. Clock is an older one and does show signs of age. All wood case with Regula 25 brass movement. Movement has been cleaned and lubricated. Bellow tops have been refurbished. This is a weight driven 1-day(30 hour) clock cuckoo's the hour on the hour and cuckoo's on the 1/2 hour. The birds in the nest move as the bellows move. Great animation. Clock case and trim shows some chips and small cracks. As expected with older clocks, seems that bottom of trim is missing. Antique German Black Forest Clock w/wooden plates ca.1890 - ESTATE
I have tried to do research on this unusual clock and not finding much. I'll tell you what I do know so far. It was hanging above my late husband's workbench& as you can see in the pictures the movement is very dirty. It is German-Black Forest and mfg. around 1890 to 1900. I am clearing my husband's shop and discovering much that I do not know about. The clock has a brightly painted tin face with an absolutely perfect porcelain dial. The colors are very vivid for it's age. The pendulum is very ornate& painted in corresponding colors. The clock door measures 9-1/2"H x 8"W and the hinges are secure. The porcelain dial measures 3-3/4" across& has Roman numerals. The hands also look original to the age of the clock. The movement is mounted on wooden plates and will only run for 10 minutes. The door covering ... moreone side of the movement is missing. It has two pine cone cuckoo style weights that are painted gold. Antique Black Forest Barrois Mantle Castle Clock French Works
Up for your consideration is this Antique Black Forest Castle Mantle Clock. Made by Barrois Clock Co. of Paris France. I would date the clock to around 1900. I have had the clock for approx. 2 years and all I have done, is have the movement cleaned and oiled by a professional clock repairman. It runs great, has original pendulum and key and has a Marti movement. It chimes on the hour and half hour. The case is done in the style of a medieval castle with two Knights standing guard. They appear to be copper plated as are the hinges on the front door and the fret work atop the roof. The other decorations are brass. This is a truly unique and beautiful clock. The body of the clock appears to be Black Walnut but the rear appears to be a veneer and there is veneer loss as seen in photo# 11. The roman numerals on the dial are ceramic. The Knight ... morein photo#3 appears to have had his sword repaired sometime in the past. As the solder appears to be brighter, but that's just a guess. The clock stands 18 1/2" tall by 9" wide and 5" deep. The base that it sits on as you can see is wider and deeper. Although running I cannot guarantee it will be running once sent through the mail. This Magnificent Old German Black Forest'8 day' Cuckoo clock was found at a recent private estate sale. Please view the pictures below) The family at the estate said there grandmother brought the clock back from Germany in the 1940's. This Cuckoo clock is absolutely unique in design displaying a lovely winged Bird at the very top(She even has a glass inlaid eye) and accented on both sides with dimensionally carved Maple leaves and tree branches. The center front is framed with more of the hand carved leaves. Branches and a fabulous lower piece that was carved in to curved winding tree limbs. This entire piece was hand carved from a single piece of wood(Amazing talent) The face of the clock was also carved from wood and numbered in White Roman numerals. The hands are also very decorative in design. The face is marked at the bottom"Germany' ... moreThe back of the clock has a wooden access door that still maintains the original paper instructions label on it. The upper front peak of the clock has a little hinged wooden door that when it opens the Cuckoo bird will appear on the hour and half hour. He will coo coo once on the half hour and as many times needed for the hour of day on the hour. There is also a musical chime that sounds in the background each time he coo coos. The movement of this clock is of the finest German quality and marked'Germany' on it. Made from solid brass metal and runs for 8 days when fully wound. The movement is powered by two large metal weights shaped like Pine cones that hang on Brass chains. The movement is regulated by a hand carved leaf pendulum that swings back and forth underneath the clock. The overall condition is very good for the age of the clock. I do not see any repairs, nicks or cracks anywhere. The clock runs fine. Remember this clock is a 8 day clock, not like the usual 1 day clocks that you normally see. Offered for sale is this exquisite German Black Forest wood carving"Squirrel on tree trunk" The squirrel is grabbing a little animal on its left front claws and the right front claws are grabbing the trunk. The tree trunk is surrounding by some leaves. Tree fern and rocks. The piece has one or two leaves damage and some old worm bites, overall it is in excellent condition for age. No signature and the exact age unknown, probably 1900's or so. The trunk is hollow on top, it size about 2-1/2"in depth. x 2-3/4"in diameter. It can hold a candle inside but this is too good to be a candle holder. The piece measures 6-3/4"H x 7-1/2"W x 6"Deep. The piece is heavy nice wood. Large Swiss/Black Forest carved wooden bear tobacco jar with black glass eyes. Th is wonderfully carved sitting bear has a hinged head which opens up to reveal a cavity which I assume would be used as a tobacco container or something similar. He is quite large. Measuring 8½" high to the tip of his nose and weighing 435 grammes. Apart from a little play wear he is in very good condition with no damage that I can see. Judging from his condition. I would think that he dates to circa 1940's although he could be a lot earlier dating back to circa 1900's which was the peak of the Swiss carved or Black Forest bears. This Fabulous Old German Black Forest Cuckoo clock with Three Animated Birds was found at a recent private estate sale along with several other old Cuckoo clocks. Please view the pictures below) This clock is very rare. Absolutely beautifully carved and hand painted. It's very impressive in size with a overall length of 14 1/2" from top of roof to bottom of the pendulum and a width of 7" at the widest point. The theme of the clock depicts a old mountain Chalet compete with a hipped roof that has been high lighted giving a shingled effect. The eye catching focal point of the this clock is the hand carved and extended bird's nest at the center top. Above the nest are two lovely and colorful bird's that will bob up and down when the center Cuckoo bird comes out to coo coo. They represent feeding young chicks with there ... moreanimated wings flapping as the bob. Accented on the sides of the birds and nest are hand carved Maple tree leaves and branches. This carving continues downward on the sides and across the bottom. It was hand carved from a single piece of wood and hand painted with lovely forest color hues. Displayed on the sides are two more large and colorful Cuckoo birds with there heads turned inwards. They even have glass inlaid eyes. The face of the clock is numbered in White Roman numerals and marked'Germany' at the bottom. The hands are also very decorative in the design. The movement is of the finest German quality. Made by the Regula clock company from solid Brass metal. The movement is powered by two pine cone shaped metal weights that hang on Brass chains and regulated by a hand carved leaf pendulum that swings back and forth beneath the clock. The upper peak of the clock has a little hinged Green door that will open on the half hour and hour. The Cuckoo bird will appear on these times and coo coo once on half hour and as many times needed for the hour on day, on the hour. Rare Black Forest - clock figurine of the 19 century
Black Forest painted metal figurine of a clockseller- Circa 1780- 1820- in a standing position. Black painted trousers. Cravat and shoes, red long overcoat, brown waistcoat and socks,wide black hat. On his back is a black dial, in his left hand he is holding a coucou weights and clock pendulum- the clock pendulum is not in the picture- in his right hand he is holding a walking stick. On his front is a clock movement with pendulum stil in good working condition, the clock face is with arabic numbers and looks renewed, the hands are black, the face of the clock has hand painted flowers. The face hanging on the back of the figurine is black painted and diffucult to see, reason old age. The painting of the figurine shows his old age, although it is nice looking, the movement is to be winded with a key every day. The clockhandler is standing on ... morea rectangle metal base. This clock was used before as a show piece In the beginning of 1800 when the long case and the coucou clocks became populaire. Many persons started selling and repairing clcoks by visiting people, they were called clock handlers instead of salespersons. The figurine was always casted in cheap metal and sold and used as show and time pieces by the clockmakers and sellers. Most of the figurines are gone, a few are damaged or incompleet, there are some in museums. In 1980 one was sold by Sotheby in London or New York, the estimate action price set by Sotheby was between 3000 and 3500 $(see the catalogue of Sotheby October 22, 23, 24 1980) Height of the clockhandler figurine is 41 cm. or 16`` Size of the base: 11 x 20 cm. or 4½ `` x 8`` My starting price is only 1750 $- no reserve- The cost of making a crate and handling 50 $. Gorgeous Antique Carved Wooden Black Forest Wall Bracket Folding Shelf
Here on offer is a gorgeous antique carved wooden Black Forest wall bracket shelf. Dating to between 1890 and 1900. This beautiful piece is made from limewood. Which is also known as linden that has dark staining. It is has a design of delicately scrolling leaves and twigs on the back plate and wall bracket with a solid shelf. The only damage is a small piece missing at the top, see the second photograph. The shelf is offered in good used antique condition. It measures about 25cm by 31cm by 15cm and weighs 522g.
