Dates about c1760-1790. A corner shelf which would have been displayed in a church during the said period. Certainly a quite stunning relief carving of the winged angel with the fruit and leaf carvings. All c arved in relief. Therefore a one piece carving of the winged angel which the decorative corner shelf has been mounted onto the top of with the larger above. Bevelled curved edges to the top of the shelves. Antique Cuckoo Clock Works Movement– 1800s Black Forest Here we have nice old cuckoo clock works dating back to the 1800s. The plates are held together with pins which were commonly used from 1865 to about 1900. The works look to be in good order. But are untested. Therefore I am selling them as found. They look like they belonged to a larger cuckoo clock judging by where the cuckoo bird would have perched. The cuckoo perch sits approximately 4-1/2” above the center rod for the hands. The works measure 4-3/8” wide. By 4-3/8” high and are approximately 1-5/8” thick. It has a strike arm in the back for the gong. I could not find any makers mark on the works. Antique German or Dutch Black Forest Wag on the Wall Shield Clock Here we have a very lovely German or Dutch Wag on the Wall Clock done in the black forest style. I believe it dates back between 1830 and 1850. The clock has a wonderful hand painted face featuring roses. It measures 13-5/8” long. By approximately 10” wide and 5” deep. The face does have a crack that runs from top to bottom which has been repaired from the back. It has a combination of metal works attached to wood plates. The hands look like they are heavy cut steel. The two weights that come with the clock look like cuckoo clock weights and I don’t know if they are original. The clock is missing its pendulum. Therefore the works are untested and the clock is being sold as found. They do look to be in good order. They also strike the hour on a gong. This chromolithograph shows some wear and has a small tear on the right top corner. It is framed in a beautiful Black Forest hand carved frame. The frame is carved to simulate tree branches and the top is decorated with a large bunch of carved grape leaves and some curly cues. Antique 1870s BLACK FOREST Relief Carved Eagle Top Wood Frame OAK WALL MIRROR
I have up for sale a rare and beautiful vintage circa 1860s- 1880s Black Forest hand carved Hanging Wall Mirror. I believe that the frame is made of Oak- its relief carved with a bird. Possibly an Eagle on top. The bird has a glass eye and the talons are fixed on to a log. It measures approx 26-1/2" measured from the tip of the wing to the bottom of the vertical section of the frame,its approx 17-1/4" wide. The bird itself protrudes outward just over 4" The glass mirror itself measures approx 16-1/4" x 9" The frame is in very nice estate fresh as found condition. I am quite sure that the finish is the old original. Regardless it looks wonderful. It has a nice warm patina and recessed areas have darker coloration. Overall the frame is in Great Condition- other than some wear/small chip to the end tip of the birds beak ... morethe wood is in fantastic shape. Wear is light, the frame was well taken care of. The glass mirror is excellent- no silvering issues- no damages. I see that the bird is attached with 2 screws in the back. When I package it. I will take if off and package it separately. INCREDIBLE 19TH CENT. BRIENZ BLACK FOREST CARVED BOX WITH HEN,CHICKS AND ROOSTER
This auction is for a beautiful Black forest heavily carved and figurial jewel casket dating to the last half of the 19th century. The carving on this piece is amazing! It depicts a sheath of wheat and a chicken family on top. There is a rooster. Hen and four baby chicks. The wood is a deep black walnut and the box measures about 11" long and 6 3/4" high. I have seen a few similar to this but this box has a certain life to it the others didnt have. There are some little extras to the carving like a few extra wheat stems and different positions on the chicks. These boxes are all one of a kind and this one was surely an early one that the others copied. The box is in great condition with only a few little nibbles on tips of a few wheats. There are many little worm holes throughout the piece as true testament to it's age. The inside ... moreneeds to have the lining replaced as only a few blue silk remenants remain. There is a key but the box does not lock. The key turns the lock but the top latch does not catch. I'm sure someone could fix it without a problem. The pictures don't do this box justice. It is a bit dusty but I didnt want to fool with it so I'll leave that up to the future owner. Just a incredible example of early Brienz carving. SOld with No reserve! This lovely original hand carved lion is finely detailed and hand carved. And measures 5 1/4 inches long by 2 inches wide by 2 1/2 inches tall. It is in good condition. Upon very close inspection the tip of his left front paw has chipped off, but is hard to notice because the wood is quite dark. I have read that in 1820 t he original sculpture of the‘Lion of Lucerne’ was carved into a sandstone face above the town of Lucerne. One of a kind in amazing heirloom condition from the farmhouse of a 3rd generation working farm estate sale at Cole Camp, Missouri; The town has a predominantly German heritage and was settled and founded by German immigrants from the lowlands in 1839 at the convergence of the Butterfield ... moreTrail and Booneville Road. Excellent heirloom condition and has not been cleaned; with no touch-ups to the paint or finish. Everything down to the smallest detail on the guitar, pipes, and rucksack are perfect– it has wormholes underneath the base(please see highly detailed photographs below… There are no damages whatsoever other than an ancient repair to the base where a natural crack was reinforced with glue- it has covered over well throughout time. There are a lot of rare old butter paddles and round wood press molds found at the old farm sales in our area, but, I have never seen an itinerants mirror like this one before.
